The fact they don’t frame Tadano as a bad person just because he doesn’t want to get married and have kids, nor is she a bad person for wanting those things, it’s kinda rare now a days to have that level of maturity in how people can have different long term goals and still be valid. The shot of the two at the end of season 2 with Tadano flying with his head in the clouds towards tomorrow and Retsuko driving in the opposite direction, grounded and stable, is just *chefs kiss*
Yeah it's very nice. Heck that seems to be the thing with most of the break ups. It isn't that they are bad people or that what either side wants is bad, just that they don't mesh together that well in the end. That they remain friends after is also nice since relationships sometimes get treated as an all or nothing type thing. Nice to see that the end of a relationship doesn't mean an end to being friendly with the other.
He's not a bad guy at all but he's missing out on such a beautiful part of life and has shit reasons for it, but I'm glad she got out of there. There's no point being bf and gf if you're not getting married to have a family.

I think they chose a male vocalist to create a contrast between the cute, high pitched voice of Retsuko vs alternate, metal persona. It’s more for the comedic value, but I believe if the story was about a young office worker wanting to become a vocalist for a metal band then they would have gotten a female vocalist!
That being said Tatiana screams deeper than this dude and would have been the perfect choice. Oh well lol.

Rarecho (the creator) is the metal singer for the Japanese version and actually does a good job at it it’s crazy because he taught himself just for this. I prefer Jamison tho but I like the Japanese version too.
Yeh, he took a short course because he couldn't find a metal singer he was happy about.
It's cute because, if I'm not mistaken, he did that and for the pilot his wife did Retsukos voice and then she just went on to become the official voice for her. So husband and wife work together to bring her voice to life.
Actually, Yeti is the creator, Rarecho is the Director and Man, they do a Fantastic job with Aggretsuko.
Hard disagree. The screaming in the Japanese version is annoying to listen to.
As a girl who’s really girly and loves metal I always loved that she’s both a really feminine girl and has that love of metal and the way she grows through the series.

In the original Japanese, Retsuko's death metal voice is done by the show's writer & director, Rarecho, who is a man. I'm sure the English dub casting was just staying true to the original. I think it furthers the absurdity of Retsuko's dual-face dynamic.
Fun fact: In Japan blood types are treated much the same as zodiacs where some believe that certain personalities are tied to blood types. At the very least this must be incredibly useful for when and if they ever donate or need to receive blood.

A note on the gender of the vocalists-- in japanese, it's also done by a male vocalist. It's done that way for comedic effect!
I'm so glad you guys covered this. I LOVE Aggretsuko. My boss and I both really like metal, and so I showed her the shitty boss clip and now she teases me by asking if I need a "metal break". 🤣

And i cried a few times in this show since her story is so “daily” and relatable.
I am a big anime fan, I loved the metal in Aggretsuko, and it opened me into metal in general, I really subbing just to see what new things 2 metalheads who can appreciate anime can share.
That's awesome that Aggretsuko opened you up to Metal! Another reason to love this awesome show. We always recommend a Death Metal band called Arch Enemy to Aggrestuko fans because it has a similar sound to the Death Metal in the show. Listen to "Nemesis" by Arch Enemy and you'll see what we mean. I would also recommend checking out a Japanese Melodic Death Metal Band called Gyze. They released a single a few weeks ago called "Samurai Metal" and it is currently one of my favorites!
@@MetalMass I actually prefer the Japanese voice acting, since most times English subs are not as good. But the English Death Metal singing is much better. Wish they got a Japanese Death Metal artist to do the singing instead of what we got...But I am new to Death Metal so right now testing out the waters...

Fun Fact: The japanes guy who created this show said in an interview that he is doing the screaming. He said he googled how to do it and practiced until it worked. Also his wife is the voice actor for Retsuko.
I had no trouble making out what Retsuko is singing in most songs (I'm like Gori on that one), but thanks for including the subtitles to her singing for people who can't. Lord knows my friends couldn't understand a single word.
Also, that 'we deserve a vacation' song is my achilles heel, I could never make out what she was singing in between 'lightning grant me some vengeance' and 'strike them down'. I legit thought the first like was 'cry me some vengeance' for the longest time!
I've watched this show so many times and I swear, I died laughing just now watching that matrimonial freedom scene. you should've shown him the part where Gori and Washimi heard her screams, that was just hilarious!
This was quite surprising. I am a skateboard boy and we are quite different from metalheads. But in agreience this show was excellent

Just in case you guys were interested. There is one other anime about death metal called DMC or Detroit Metal City. If you can find it check it out the music and characters are great.

I didn't even know season 3 was out!! I was so sad for Retsuko at the end of the last season since she genuinely was invested in that relationship.
This show mixed the two things that I love. Doom and animal crossing.

I didn't know that the english audio translate the song too. In japeness it sounds more aggresive because i can't understand any word haha. Even thoug it's great there is a complete english version. En español no tenemos doblaje en la canción u.u
Sí, otras personas nos han dicho que no hay traducción para las canciones en español. Sabemos que hay grupos latinos de Death Metal, así que sería genial si pudieran encontrar un vocalista latino para traducir las canciones. El cantante de Retsuko en inglés es Jamison Boaz y tiene una voz increíble de death metal, pero no es tan agresiva como la voz de Rarecho en japonés.

i love retsuko so much since i relate to her. on the outside, im shy and i barely talk and i have no friends. one of the few conversations i had in school last year was "wow i never heard u laugh before" but wait till i go home... i play rage by rico nasty and things like that. completely the opposite of what i look like i would listen to.
You gotta love how she rages out and relieves tension by singing death metal! 🤣

Your comments at the end about being a metal head in the corporate world made me have to share this story.
Earlier this month, there was a singing competition as a team building event. It’s a Chinese bank, so it was for Youth Day. Eleven competitors, including me.
Most people sang Chinese language songs. Others sang Nirvana, Taylor Swift, and Backstreet Boys.
I sang “The Quest and the Curse” by Delain.
I won third place.
This show is why I keep my Netflix account active, despite rarely ever going on it.
This was recommended to me and I didn't know I needed this. Don't know much about metal but it's great to see they are on point with the show.
A colleague of mine actually does listen to death metal while she goes to work and in the mindset. We're in marketing lol.

I think they used a male singer in the English dub because the creator and his wife were the original voices for Ritsu when he first made it. Maybe it was an omash to him. He did the metal in Japanese for her.

I work at a super store where most of my night shift consists of me scrubbing shitty bathrooms, wherein I am constantly *BLASTING* heavy metal shit.*
*A night doesn't go by without Dio, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, W.A.S.P., Blind Guardian, Stryper, or Motorhead bouncing off a bathroom's walls. Probably the most listened to song is 'Hammer and the Anvil' from 'Pain Killer',
When this first came out I was 25 and worked for my grandma who was an accountant. I also can't stand idiots and jerks, I could never work customer service. So Aggretsuko was relatable. Even though as the plot developed and she decided she wanted to get married and have kids and I don't, I still relate. Also that she is cute and sweet but with a heavy darker side; I love cute dresses and stuffed animals and my room is currently pastel pinks and blues with Pusheen, but I also love camping and medieval fantasy and just a massive nerd/geek, I do archery and am interested in learning to sword fight, and I like hard rock from like the 80s and such
in Japanese it has more charm than in English.

It’s another anime about this sweet guy who just wants to write happy pop songs. But he’s cast as like the most vile disgusting monster metalhead in existence and he’s great at his job. And he wants to be a normal guy but his metal alter ego tends to pop out at bad times and ruin his life.
Look up Raping Tokyo Tower for an example.

I love that you mention how they could have used a female metal vocalist, and listed off some very talented ones, but also said that it might have been a style choice. I hadn't thought of that but you may be right. Could still have used Tatiana from Jinjer and had that shock value but Jamison does some pretty great work here.

I love Aggretsuko. It showcases a duality some people have, like myself. No one ever suspects I love hard rock/metal but it's my outlet! Shout out to all the undercover metalheads!
I saw Retsuko do her thing before... And... I can't over her. She's AMAZING, AWESOME, THE BEST OF ALL. And this episode of this metal show (first I see), very good, man.
You guys should take a look at the anime "Detroit Metal City", and note that there is a live action movie adaptation too(though it's not as good as the animation in my opinion).
That series has more "joke metal" in it, but I am partial to some of the music. Especially the movie's remastered version of the songs.
I was telling my friend about this show today. She hadn't heard of it but she was laughing and said, "She kinda sounds like your spirit animal." I mean... not wrong! This was a great commentary, by the way. I've never seen this channel before, but you guys are a lot of fun and I was laughing through the whole video.
I will now never watch this show again until Retsuko's singing is done by Angela Gossow

if y'all like Japanese metal I recommend Maretu, my favorite metal artist. he does a pretty wide variety of music (from Piano to Dubstep to Chiptune to Heavy Rock), the songs I'd recommend the most are "Toutetsu", "Electric Detonator", "Rational Time" and "Corn" (rational time is pretty long, the real good part starts at about 3:12 into the song)

When she's in the bathroom, I'm notnsure if she's *actually* listening to metal. I feel like the metal song is actually a representation of her eternal rage. Some kind of daydream where her anger expresses itself
