Try "Ooh Baby Baby" (the live black and white version 3:15) It's one of the most beautiful songs ever with peak Smokey vocalizations, also apparently Mariah Carey's favorite song. Blows my mind that no one reacts to it, it's a lights out performance.
I find Smokey's voice Smokey. His voice sounds like a beautiful silky smoke lightly drifting through the air.
He sings like he is whispering sweet love in your ear. Very intimate. And personal. No one better!

No doubt, Smokey's voice has always been smooth, timeless, and distinctly unique! "Just to See Her", is another one of his I've particularly liked since early high school.
My favorite Smokey song is Tears Of A Clown.
Smokey is also one of the best SONGWRITERS of all time. He wrote so many hit songs for himself and the Miracles, but also songs like "My Guy" (Mary Wells), "My Girl" (The Temptations) "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game" (The Marvelettes) and many others. What a super talented guy.
Smokey Robinson is a national treasure.
You guys have to check out his duet with Rick James, it’s called “Ebony Eyes.” That may seem like a strange pairing, but that song is sooo good, I think you’ll love it.
Probably came about after the two of them produced The Temptations' "Reunion" album. Rick produced "Standing on the Top," and Smokey did the rest.
This MUST be the next Smokey song to review.

I'm a metalhead since I was 7, around 1977, but my parents were big Motown fans and I would listen to all their records....in the 80's, Slayer and Metallica and Exodus were my jams, but I would always relax with the slow jams....thank you Smokey....

The love I have for this song is immeasurable. Such a perfect voice.
This was a big hit in Britain too. And long long after the main man of Motown had delivered his biggest classics. It's an extraordinary voice and it doesn't need pyrotechnics. That was part of the inheritance of his generation: soul.
When I was a preteen, I went to visit my grandmother in the D.C. suburbs. That year the Motown 10th anniversary album came out. She bought it for me and it became the soundtrack of my early teen years. Such great music!

I recommend checking out Smokey Robinson "Live at Daryl's House." He's visiting Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates, and together they do Hall & Oates' hit "Sara Smile" and then Smokey's hit "Ooh, Baby Baby." What's cool about songs done at "Daryl's House" is that the singers and musicians are performing live, so you get to see and hear the true talent and artistry.
That's definitely my favorite episode of "Live From Daryl's House", and I think it's probably Daryl Hall's favorite too!! Smokey Robinson is Daryl Hall's musical idol!!

GLENN FREY - " The One You Love " 1980s , this song is another early 80s song with a smooth and romantic tone to it and just like this beautiful song by Smokey Robinson it features the sax 🎷 giving it an even more soulful feel .
This is one of my two favorite Smokey Robinson songs. “Cruising” is my favorite, but this one isn’t far behind. Great song! And 1981 was a great year in high school too! This is SMOOTH!
This came out in 1981. Smokey's first hit (with the Miracles) was "Shop Around" in 1960. That's a long long time at the top.
My favorite Smokey/Miracles record is "Tears Of A Clown." Great tune, great Funk Brothers backing, great lyrics.

As I remember it, Rolling Stone Magazine once had a list of the greatest songs of all time and they had Tracks of My Tears at #1… An English Band called ABC has a great song called, “When Smokey Sings”…His influence is immense…..
Smokey and the Miracles have a number of songs that are classics of popular music. Besides "Tracks of My Tears", there is "Tears of a Clown", and Ooh Baby Baby" (covered by Linda Ronstadt as a single), Just slightly less classic but still great are "More Love", "The Love I Saw in You Was Just a Mirage", "Baby Baby Don't Cry" and "Going to a Go-Go". Smokey wrote many of the classic Motown Hits for the Temptations and many others and was Berry Gordy's VP.
Look for a late Xmas card ya’ll….. sent to “Robinson Family” painted it myself, I hope you like it. This song used to play in the school bus when I was in the 8th grade. Love Smokey. ✌️🙂
There's a classic, all girl, rock band from the 70s that you two would truly enjoy. Their name is "Fanny". You should check them out for sure. For instance, their song, "Ain't That Peculiar" (1972), which I believe was their hard-rock cover of an older Marvin Gaye song (1965).

His voice is unique because its a very high vocal register, but its also breathy. As soon as you hear it, you know who it is, very distinctive.

As an 80's kid, this song was my introduction to Smokey Robinson's music and its served to have me dive further into his discography and discover that some of the songs I remembered hearing by other recording artists, were originally released by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles
"One Heartbeat" is another great '80s Smokey song. Despite coming out decades after his Motown heyday, he says its one of the songs that gets the biggest reaction at his concerts.

Still better than any R&B out there today. That's why I listen to the timeless music from the Motown, Atlanta, Chicago, Minneapolis, Birmingham, Houston and Dallas, Nashville R&B scenes of the days of us GenX growing up. That's the great thing about being a metalhead, we listen to everything! If it kills, we like it, if it sucks, we say so to save others from having to be exposed to crap music. But the best times were at the roller rink and doing the slow skates. When Smokey came on and if you could skate backward, you were golden. Y'all should try roller skating, y'all'd have a great time out there.

I'm 76 years old, grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, and Smokey is my #1 favorite!! I was lucky enough to see him in person a few times, as well as the Temptations, Four Tops, Stevie Wonder and many others! I miss those good old days! I love his slow soulful songs, but my favorite is "Shop Around", it shows a different side of him.
