The main male characters all look gay and effeminate. Also, all the women are covered up all the time, no hot skimpy armors? Where's the fantasy man? This show looks like woke trash, but maybe I'm wrong. I like classic fantasy where the women wear skimpy armors and the men are men. Give the first campaign a chance. The beggining if kinda of rough 'cause of the quality of the production, but it gets waaay better. Still one of my all time favourite fantasy stories.
Funny story, the reason it looks like the DC super hero shows you mentioned is because the same guy designed the characters, Phil Bourassa. The full story of his work with the show is talked about in the BTS called “the legend of the design of the legend of Vox Machina”
Phil Bourassa's work on this show is incredible. The livestream is all theatre of the mind and there are countless amazing fanart interpretations of these characters and yet everyone upon seeing his designs for the first time just said, "That's them. That's Vox Machina"

2:58, With how well they portrayed these character's distinct personalities, appearances and abilities, especially in terms of making each mage's powers distinct in capabilities and theme, then the team behind this series is probably going to have a field day with the upcoming Mighty Nein sequel series, where the members of group are even more colorful and different from each other, along with adding more unconventional takes on established archetypes and species (at least in terms of general pop culture), such as Caleb being a hobo wizard rather than some wise sage with a pointy hat (a trend that also follows other types of mages like Fjord, a warlock who isn't scary or evil, and Jester, a cleric who's power comes a near-religious devotion to mischief and to Artagan The Traveller rather than to an actual deity) or there being orcs, tieflings, goblins and other traditionally "monstrous" species treated as regular people in this more civilized version of a fantasy world. I think the really cool thing about the group nature of the show is that it benefits from originating as dnd, but especially in critical role. They've all got their own colours, yes, but most of those colours existed already in the stream because they needed to be able to tell their minis apart on battle maps. It's not fun to have multiple people using the bow all the time, but having the only guns in the world that have their own mechanics? Thats different enough that it still feels fun. Of course scanlan's magic feels different to Pikes, his magic is arcane, hers divine. This isn't to deny the absolutely incredible character design done by Titmouse of course. But they already had the pieces laid out for them by the mechanics of the game and i just think that that's really cool
Agree 100% with this video. When I saw the thumbnail on Amazon, I had originally dismissed it as a generic fantasy kids' cartoon. Then I saw a preview and heard "fuck" mentioned, which immediately piqued my interest (i.e. clearly not for kids). Gave it a go and ended up watching most of season 1 in one insomnia-induced sitting. Amazing show, especially considering it was basically written by dice rolls and improv.

My take may be a hot one. But as someone who started Critical Role with campaign 1 and still considers it their favorite of the 3, I'm not a huge fan of the Legend of Vox Machina. Don't get me wrong, I'm still watching, it's fun to see a visualization of classic moments, but I think it's one of those "the movie doesn't hold a candle to the book" kinda things. The characters are quite different, main and supporting alike. It feels like for the sake of the show, everyone was boiled down to a character trope, and although they are trying to have them grow as the series goes on, it still falls rather flat for me... there's only so much character development that can happen in a 12 episode season with 30 minute episodes and a large cast of characters and a very involved and action-heavy plot to contend with.
Sadly that's inevitable when you're trying to compress 400+ hours of game time into (hopefully) 30 hours of animation. Season 1 had a slower pace than season 2, but honestly I think season 2's writing has been tight enough to make it work.
@@cryofpaine I know, and Its not ruining the show. I just wish to see all the extra juicy bits and slow build up to dragon chomping guys dick off :D And yes, Season2 has been amazing, better than 1st one, and I loved 1st season
The animation is fantastic and the show is glorious. The atmosphere it can build and the quality of the voice acting is nearly always top notch. BUT. I absolutely despise the cgi used for the dragons. It makes sense why they did it. Horses are hard to draw and dragons are even harder, let alone 5 of the bastards. But seriously. It hurts me every time I see umbrasyl and raishan. Vorugal looks good and the lighting on Thordakk makes him horrifying. Brimscythe was pretty good. Yet compared to anything else that isn't cgi, it hurts/
Best show I've seen in years. Season 2 is somehow better then season 1. It's great writing with no forced political agenda made by people who love the characters and the passion shows. Every character is likeable and the villains aren't made to be empathetic or sympathetic too and the heros are heroic and are flawless and have to grow. Heros journey
S1 was scripted to be just the one character arc, because when the Kickstarter happened, they figured they would only get one shot to tell one story, and the Briarwoods are a pretty compelling villain. S2...covers a lot of ground, but they also have killed their darlings quite a bit to keep the pace. If you watch Travis talk about it, he says that they put the storyboards up, scrambled them, took things out... From what it looks like, it was an intense process.
I do like how S2 has turned out tho, it has more of an overarching narrative but with little vignette's that allow us to explore the various backstories if our main cast
LVM and the original campaign are nothing supernatural. you get to know the characters from LVM going blind, *BECAUSE* the original campaign *IS* the original actors building those characters then and there for the first time. them succeeding at a certain task or challenge was the good side of the dice turning up right then and there *AS* they tried it, not some almighty intervention of a writer behind the scenes decreeing that it should be so for the benefit of drama, watch time, or potential publicity contracts. is the concept of "something original" so alien to people now that they're surprised that it exists?
Normal dnd campaigns dont last that long, but cause this is a live show, they can call it "working" and keep playing every week, Critical Role is truly diffrent from any other ttrpg show out there, the story just kept getting better until 2 years where they literally couldn't keep playing with these charcterscause they reached max lvl, which btw never happens in any normal campaign between friends

Shows like Vox Machina is why I can’t laugh at the “Western Cartoon vs Anime” memes when it just shows an image of Big Mouth or something.
100% 🙌
Do you listen to Nerd Poker (D&D podcast)?
I don't 👀 I'll have to check it out
I love this show
Critter Hugs
😍😍😍😍😍
I came here to gush and am not disapointed
Do I need to understand dungeons and dragons games and have had to watch critical role to watch this
Not at all!
The show is actually quite divorced from any dnd references so you can enjoy it as an isolated piece of media!
Amazing 🤩 I love it
And ourr little bard who have the shittest charater sheet in the group slow become the best charater that carry the whole group.
Great videoooooo
the issue with this show is that it feels rushed. They dont let things simmer but just rush from fight to fight
I just wish to see all the extra juicy bits and slow build up to dragon chomping guys dick off :D
And yes, Season2 has been amazing, better than 1st one, and I loved 1st season
The animation is fantastic and the show is glorious. The atmosphere it can build and the quality of the voice acting is nearly always top notch. BUT. I absolutely despise the cgi used for the dragons. It makes sense why they did it. Horses are hard to draw and dragons are even harder, let alone 5 of the bastards. But seriously. It hurts me every time I see umbrasyl and raishan. Vorugal looks good and the lighting on Thordakk makes him horrifying. Brimscythe was pretty good. Yet compared to anything else that isn't cgi, it hurts/

👏👏👏
2 years of TTRPG? time for you to stop playing d&d and play.. ANYTHING else.
Psssht you should see my campaigns
@@ehabolas9338 I mean... Court of Swords was on par If not better and they had similar air time IIRC. Shame what happened with it.
Also, d&d is kinda stale IMO, especially in such a Generic setting as Exandria, which is basically a little more than a reskin of Forgotten Realms. IMO they at the very least should try different types of settings or a whole another system to focus on different types of dynamics in general. To be not so... D&d-ish and "tropey"
"Now"?
This has been out forever, why do you phrase it as if the first episode had just launched?
Yeah that's a fair point
But S1 did only come out a year ago so it's relatively new, but that's bad phrasing on my part
