An often overlooked early Bill Cosby vehicle called simply The Bill Cosby Show. Another hallmark moment for Bill Cosby and for the culture at large as this show marked Cosby’s debut as a single star after appearing opposite Robert Culp in the mid sixties secret-agent buddy adventure series I SPY.
I SPY ran for three seasons on NBC, a premise that teamed US intelligence agents Kelly Robinson (Robert Culp) and his negro counterpart (the term still dominate at the time) Alexander “Scotty” Scott played by Bill Cosby, traveling undercover as international tennis bums. Monumental and controversial, at the same time.
In this, The Bill Cosby Show, a series that aired for two seasons on NBC’s Sunday night schedule from 1969 until 1971, Cosby plays Chet Kincaid, a bachelor and physical education instructor. In many ways, this show is one of the building blocks upon which Cosby started to create his “on-screen family of America’s dreams”, as one writer so poetically stated.
Cliff Huxtable before he met Claire so to speak.
Chet Kincaid is the safe single guy next door that’ll offer to walk the old lady across the street. Low maintenance simple guy. But smart, responsible and trustworthy. And always there to help. And a great mentor to his students including some of his fellow staff.
Being a single guy, Chet Kincaid definitely retained his share of love interests over the course of the series’ two year run. In this scene from an episode titled ‘The Green-Eyed Monster’, Motown star Kim Weston makes a rare acting appearance as Chet’s lady friend Gloria Ruskin.

Wasn’t easy to succeed Mary Wells at Motown, Wells is one of my all time favorites. Kim is great also.
My favorite episode! Kim was so natural acting!
Totally! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for uploading this. Kim is a beautiful lady. Not just appearance-wise, but as a person. I had the unbelievable honor of being able to have a conversation with her by phone a few years ago, thanks to someone I got to know here through RUclips (I still can't believe I actually spoke to this legend); Kim was just incredibly natural and REAL in conversation and she made you feel as if she was talking to a good long-time friend. I believe Kim could have done a lot more acting if she wanted to- she was also doing stage plays, I believe - but she has such an incredible commitment to her community and the people. She's dedicated her life to making life better for those in Detroit and probably a lot more people out there than we'd ever realize. Talking to her, there's absolutely no feeling that she felt she should have or could have been a bigger star. She's a rare person who seems so secure in who she is that she DOESN'T need stardom in her life. It's almost as if the singing and records and television were just things that she has happy doing, but it wasn't her passion in life.
Such an amazing, classy, wonderful, beautiful Lady.
Wow, what a nice assessment, we agree that she is quite a class act and a humanitarian of the highest order. Salute to Kim Weston!
Greetings, Tomovox, from Erik!
I saw myself mentioned here in your comment and thought I would say hello. It has been quite a while since we spoke by phone. I remember the responsibilities you were committed to, and how limited your time.
Kim is well and happy. We spoke about you a while ago, and your personal tribute video made in honor of her own favorite song. Hope that you're doing well.
I'm very grateful to this RUclips channel for posting The Green-Eyed Monster, which had been removed before on other channels. I'll be sending Kim a link to this when I have sent this message.
To Tomovox: I hope we speak again soon. If you can think of a way to send your number to me, let me know. Kim would love to hear from you again. She has mentioned it!
To the channel host who posted this video: Thank you for doing this. Kim will be very appreciative that you have posted this video for her.
I will check back here for messages frequently for responses. So, I will subscribe and open notifications for this channel.
God bless you both...
