- "Hot Lips" ("When He Plays Jazz He's Got - Hot Lips") is a popular song written by jazz trumpeter Henry Busse, Henry Lange, and Lou Davis. The song was a #1 hit for Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra. Henry Busse was a founding member of the Paul Whiteman Orchestra.
Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra recorded the song on June 23, 1922 in New York and released it as a Victor 78, 18920-A. The recording was no. 1 for 6 weeks.
Henry Busse and his Orchestra continued to record and perform up until his death in 1955. Busse died at an undertaker's convention at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee while he was playing with the Shuffle Rhythm Band. There must be a lesson in there someplace.

My first professional band in 1954! Played a month at the Tennessee hotel in Memphis. Noon lunches in their dining room and nights on the rooftop (with large sheets of glass holding down our music). Interesting -- the drummer on the band was Chiz Harris, who later played with Les Brown and Don Rader and other big bands; guitarist was Carol Kaye, later one of the famous "Wrecking Crew" ensemble that backed many famous recordings in the 60s and 70s. Marshall McNutt trumpet (later modified to McNott);
Man this music reminds me of the old Walt Disney cartoons
Anyone else came after a Flag map timeline of Europe?

Almost 100 years and still better than present's songs 🙄

@@WCxd-nm2gj that's their choice, no need for judgement
Yup
Only the people born in 1900s will remenber this
I may not have been born in the 20th century, but my half- Austrian grandpa played this all the time, he didn't live in Austria, he lived in Australia
The end of the song is like the end of all old songs being made now.
It’s actually kinda sad to me.
FINALLY I KNOW THE MUSIC!
I have been searching this for months

Lovely tune! Formerly with Paul Whiteman!
Wasn't everything "formerly with Paul Whiteman"?? That applied to the music AND the players!
@carato1313 I get it. To me, Whiteman was a giant of his era. Like Busby Berkeley in dance, they were the big name guys and trained many who came out of their organizations. But the average person on the street wouldn't know who they were.
@@vegas1a I'm sure the average folks were busy trying to make a living during depression era. Now we complain but its hard for us to realize what it was back then.
Love this version--- has some real life to it!
