Ive owned one of these for about the last 15 years and use it to find compositions before getting the camera out. Very useful and nice quality. Im not sure about availability though as I bought a new replacement about a year ago but had to buy from America, I'm in England and that was the only new one I could find anywhere in the world.
I owned one of this zoom viewfinder for my Leica M3/M6, especially for Tri-Elmar 16-18-21 + 28-35-50 and Elmar 24mm…….excellent performance.

Yes indeed very useful during scouting, and I agree, it’s quite scarce and expensive, got mine from Japan
