Wish I could could give you a warmer welcome to VA. I was on the James a day before the cold spell and caught 10 fish. 6 of them over 40 lbs. A friend was there the same day and caught a 76 pounder. Hope to see you back!
It's great seeing you in the neighborhood!! Dutch Gap (where you are) is a good place to start - it is easier to read the river in its narrow confines. Down below Hopewell where the river widens up around the Harrison Bridge can be productive for the hogs. Keep your head on a swivel. Large cargo ships, wind, tide, and a long fetch can turn that big water into a bad day. Good fishing!
I’ll tell you what Dave. If you keep it up you have a great chance of catching a state or world record catfish. Straight up professional class catfisherman.
Super Dave you are outstanding you really keep me and the wife just waiting on the next adventure of all them monster fish… you catch wow another great video… you are the Man when it comes to catching them catfish 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Ty so much for everything you Do
Awsome Dave, your first James River cat was a Whooo one for sure! You keep my heart racing every time you hook one along with that great music!!! Love watching you and the commitment you give for your show!! You keep me smiling!!😀😂🎣👌👍👍
The James river is an awesome blue cat river! Glad to see you made it there and caught some nice cats. Well done Dave! Good video and thanks for adding the bluegrass, always enjoy it😊
No way!!! At Osbourne landing!!! The first red marker on the left has a 60 foot hole there got a lot of hogs there but I’ve been fishing up by the 895 bridge and slaying them there had a 48 last Saturday glad you got out there! Comeback any time!!
Dave, come to the Ohio river and chase for those big shovel heads when you get the time too. Thanks for taking us along with you and sharing all the knowledge
As someone who calls the Ohio river home, but has had the opportunity to fish other states. Our fishing is lousy in comparison. I spend a week on the tennessee River every year and it's insane. We work for our fish, we "fish" for them. In tennessee it's just "catching" , same n a couple big lakes in south carolina and Texas. U can go out and catch 60-100 blues a day!
Nice seeing you on the James River, I know where you were at been there many of times, we love our James River we catch all kinds of fish, not just king cats. You may need to go alligator gar fishing sometimes on the fiver. It's a lot of fun. We are happy you caught a few catfish and some good bait. Good luck in catching the 60 and up catfish they are in there for sure you just got to know where they live. Hope to see you out there sometimes.
In the James river I always use live eel...hook the eel on the hook threw it's upper and lower jaw and split it's tail with a knife so it bleeds a little..12-15 inch long eels work best ...huge cats eat the live eels..great video Dave. Like seeing you make videos in my neck of the river
Good to see you in my neck of the woods. Every tributary of the chesapeake now has good blues. Just gotta be far enough upstream that there isn't too much salt. The James isn't the only spot and you'll find that some of the rivers farther north have less pressure.
That seamed to be a good spot to fish, Dave. If weren't so far away. You still done well, even on that eel. Thanks for letting us tag along. Take care, God Bless.
Some days all I have to look forward to is the catfish Dave show. This one was a good surprise and a new location. Cool background scenery. I bet it's gonna be a good year for fishing 🎣
Ha ha, yes, eels are very slimy. I'm in IL near the IL river, and my friend caught a giant eel in the river one day. Dude thought it was an electric eel, lmao. I had to tell him that this is the wrong continent, they're a bit south of us.
Dave you should've "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOED!!!!!!! for the guy in the john boat! Looks like you had a pretty good day on the James. they get bigger, WAY BIGGER!
Hey Dave! I was just thinking the other day that you should make the trip out here, and here you are. Awesome job as usual. You should try putting in at Jordan Point and running downriver a bit if you're still in the area. Good fishing between Jordan Point and Claremont. Just be careful with the weather, river is a little bigger from there on down. Welcome to VA!
Rumors are true, the lower James here n VA.,is well known for 50-80lb blue's, they get access to shad ,herring, crabs mussels etc...,and proud to say the VA. Side of buggs island ,Kerr lake,is home to the current world record,if yall come, please practice catch n release
I used to buy green shrimp at krogers. They were like candy to cat fish. Shell on to keep fiddlers from them. Find a warm water outlet from power plant. We do it all winter on the Wabash. They regulate the temp out of final cooling ponds to 70 degree water into the river. Another suggestion. Get one of the inflatable life best. Scuba shop. The have Co2 cartridge and string pull to inflate. Under your coat. It will keep your ribs warm. If you fall in that cold water by yourself. You will need it. Cold water will get you. The preserver Layes flat. Rubber.. Comfortable....
Nice bunch of fish on the James looks like you was a wearing out...good stuff...good times.....wish u would come to barren river lake in Kentucky ,I been getting some nice blues there this winter ....stay safe ,and good Luck 🤞
About fifty years ago I'd go to the galveston causeway in texas and using a number ten tremble hook and a bit of fresh shrimp I'd catch two or three eels. And eels are one thing that are nearly impossible to handle while alive. I'd toss them in the ice chest and cut the line then rerig and catch another. Then I'd drive out to a pier that ran out into deeper water. After dark I use a six inch piece of eel and the biggest hook in my tackle box and use a surf weight to keep the bait from moving. I'd catch 8 and 9 pound gaftop catfish all night. The beauty of the eels is the crabs can't steal it like they do anything else as bait.
Next time let me know ahead of time I can help guide you around no charge! Now my honey hole next to the power house is going to be full of boats this weekend😂
Thank you for releasing the cats, there a lot of people out there, and they know who they are will ruin great fisheries by keeping everything to eat, from 5lbs ta 50lbs. Once again, thanks for the release
Hey Dave, on my Garmin, i have to change from "LakeVu" to "blue" (something) when I'm on the James River ....if you have any setting you can change, try that.
Im here in northern virginia and have been wanting to my kayak down there and catch a hog. Usually just catfish my local reservoir but looks like itll be worth the trip this spring/summer.
Sounds like the 49`rs gold rush getting ready to happen, Just kidding but that`s what happened at many other places. But I may be behind you my brother lives over that way.
@@gunfisher4661 Right on. I catch good size flatheads where Im at but we dont have the blues. So when I saw that a record blue was caught outa southern VA, Ive been dying to get down there. Especially because the flathead bite is almost nonexistent in the winter.
I lived next to the James River and fished it when i was a kid .we lived in Lynchburg Va ....it flowed thru Lynchburg toward Richmond
Nothing more satisfying than fishing new water and catching fish. Way to go!
Way to go Dave!! Poor Dave thought he was going to eat his cheese. I was waiting on that bluegrass music!! Be safe out there, God Bless
Love bluegrass and cheese to 👍
Man that's too cool. That's my home waters! Launched from that ramp many times. There's some absolute monsters in that river
Wish I could could give you a warmer welcome to VA. I was on the James a day before the cold spell and caught 10 fish. 6 of them over 40 lbs. A friend was there the same day and caught a 76 pounder. Hope to see you back!
Welcome to Virginia and our home waters! Glad to see the James River did not disappoint. Looking forward to your next snacking…fishing video.
Great video. I like seeing you fish soon different places. I hope there is more James River to come.

Dave, come to the Ohio river and chase for those big shovel heads when you get the time too. Thanks for taking us along with you and sharing all the knowledge
Yeap. I live 5 miles below Markland Dam on the Ohio. There some big blues and Flats roaming these waters.

Dave, welcome to VA and the James River! So fun to see you fish the river I've fished all my life. I fish a ways up river.

Thanks for the consistent videos even in the winter. It keeps me entertained and if there's an OG catfishermen you're it, nice work as usual
@CatfishDave1 In that tidewater try a chunk of blue crab after you pull off the top part of the shell and some legs.
@@larrytischler570 is that a winter thing? Haven’t had any luck with crabs summer time

GLAD YOU CAUGHT SOME,I LOVE FISHING THE JAMES,ITS ABOUT 2 HOURS FROM ME. I'M LUCKY. GREAT WHEN THEY DONT LET YOU EAT! Good music!
Good to see you in my neck of the woods. Every tributary of the chesapeake now has good blues. Just gotta be far enough upstream that there isn't too much salt. The James isn't the only spot and you'll find that some of the rivers farther north have less pressure.

Nicely done my friend!👍
Nice work brother! Love the road trips to new waters, keep it up and tight lines! 🎣🤙🏻
Enjoyed that Dave. Was exciting to see you catching fish in a spot this California boy has actually fished. Keep up the good work.

Dragging baits are very effective, but setting anchored up is by far my favorite way to catfish. Big takedowns
Welcome to Virginia Dave, love your videos 😁
👍👍👍👍🎣thanks for taking us viewers on your trip nice video. Regular tv sucks these days.
The James river seems like a winner. 👍👍
Nice video! Ever think about Kerr lake/ Buggs Island? State record blues in there.
I love when catfish Dave goes to different places

Nope. Best fishing is from Osbourne up
I really enjoy your videos. The largest cat I caught was nearly 15 lbs. in a creek that runs into the Warrior River here in Central Alabama.
Rumors are true, the lower James here n VA.,is well known for 50-80lb blue's, they get access to shad ,herring, crabs mussels etc...,and proud to say the VA. Side of buggs island ,Kerr lake,is home to the current world record,if yall come, please practice catch n release
Kerr Lake - what a place!! So glad to know it put out that record fish. Gotta love VA/NC
Dave never disappoints.
Another outstanding video 👍👍your hilarious besides being a great fisherman 😂

Nice bunch of fish on the James looks like you was a wearing out...good stuff...good times.....wish u would come to barren river lake in Kentucky ,I been getting some nice blues there this winter ....stay safe ,and good Luck 🤞
That was a great video hope you were able to spend a few days there. I plan to fish there someday myself I'll have to hire a guide I don't have a boat
Bank fishing in the James and it’s tributaries is amazing! You can do very well from the bank.
We'll Dave I see you've made it to my neck of the woods welcome to Virginia

I like eels as well. I prefer them to cutbait or live bait any day.
Thanks for your video 👍

Liked the video tidel water seems to work for you
Where ever you go Dave, you catch them big ones
Thanks for the bluegrass in the background. Enjoy your videos.
Dave that catfish was so cute lol

Next time let me know ahead of time I can help guide you around no charge! Now my honey hole next to the power house is going to be full of boats this weekend😂
Hopefully you caught something BIG. It's good fishing I fished there It's a bigger than the Dan River. It should be moving good
Thank you for releasing the cats, there a lot of people out there, and they know who they are will ruin great fisheries by keeping everything to eat, from 5lbs ta 50lbs. Once again, thanks for the release
Hey Dave, on my Garmin, i have to change from "LakeVu" to "blue" (something) when I'm on the James River ....if you have any setting you can change, try that.
Lake Anna is a nice place for catfish. If you have time give it a shot
we fished the james a few weeks ago, nothing big but a few small cats.
We are bank fishing tributaries and the James and doing extremely well. No hogs- but nice fish.
I believe you catch a big cat in a bar ditch, good video Dave 👍
My home river! Some big kitty's in the james
Good show for first go. 👍
Big cats love pepper jack cheese! Carry On
That fish put a good bend on the Bigwater rod
Came for the fishing. Staying for the bluegrass.
9hr drive everyone should thumbs up for ol dave
Welcome to Virginia!
I was just about to tell you to chill out and eat some cheese, and then it happened. We both knew it would. Thomas, Mississippi!!
When the music starts playing, Ole Dave starts sleighing
Nice job 👍🏼
Nice fish for your first go on the James’s
Big catfish and a banjo, my favorite.

Great job at unknown waters.
Bout time you finally got here. Glad your in our hood.
It funny how some people will have no luck and some have it dang James River
Who is ridin the 5? Nice work on “Lonesome Reuben”. Try mussel meats sometime. Blues love em. Mike
Caught a 46# flathead last Saturday where you were first fishing at in front of power plant
Salt the eels down to make them more tough and able to handle them easier
