  • Here is my newest Magnavox Addition, the rare Berkshire from 1957. The highs and bass on this set is amazing. It has been fully recapped both amps. I was very fortunate enough to have mine come with the optional hard to find stereo amp and controls, and stereo cartridge. It was done by your authorized Magnavox dealer at the time. I have hooked this up to the 1957 Magnavox Continental as a second channel to try the stereo and works perfect. Enjoy!

By 57 they had the hifi thing down. Magnavox was one of the best, as was Fisher in console sound. Certainly RCA and Zenith were in the back by the mid 60's. By the 70's the Japanese took over the industry and consoles disapeared. They didn't seem to put up much of a fight, they just closed down.

My Brother, virtually, everything vintage going right up to the end of the 70s there abouts, is so, so, much better than anything modern. The look and feel of it and everything. So homey, so charming, so classy. Every piece made to be a beautiful, home, accessory, along with being a lovely piece of entertainment, as well.
I completely, agree; there's nothing out there today, nothing I'm aware of anyway, to compare to these things.
    My Retro/Vintage Best. Out.

Trumpet Blues in Hi-Fi on a 1957 Magnavox! Doesn't get much better than that. Very nice console!

It has a very nice look to the cabinet
Plus those glass tops give it a nice touch
The record storage is nice. I filled that with some hifi and mono only Lp's
78's sound excellent on it to

Another truly Magnificent Magnavox! After 1960 they got really bassy and muddy to my ear. Plus the cabinet designs were nicer in the 50's.
I've fixed those Collaro Conquest changers. Those suckers are rather over-engineered (must have been a British thing). I can't believe you got that for $25!!!

I remember these , with tubes and the wires looked like spaghetti with no circuit board design! My dad would test the tubes with his tester and use his analog Triplett multimeter to do other test back in the Fifties. Very nice unit.

yeah !! the first song I remember! but I'm not sure now if it was music from (the chevrolet commercial, or if it was from the drawings of the woodpecker or tom & jerry!) more I loved the tube pick-up.

I think that Magnavox is the best of the best in audio reproduction in their heyday. I too have a lot of mono recordings from 1948 when Columbia first introduced LP's throughout the early '60s. Even though I have a mono cartridge which eliminates a lot of the "hole-in-center" sound, it's not perfect.

Did you say 25.00? Great find and it is amazing how many of these great radios are around and being sold so cheap or even free! I have passed up on many that were free just because i don't have the room for them. If i owned a nice big turn of the century home it would be full of these beauties.
Nice find and thanks for sharing.

I had a changer like that many years ago but bsr sued Collaro so they eliminated the drop sensor, still a practical way for the changer to detect record size

I like the mid to late 50's consoles much better many of the newer 60's sets. They just seem classier. Hence I have a 57' RCA Victor as my little photo over there. It's the model I have, can you guess which one?

i bought a changer similar to that but the on-reject-off knob wouldn't turn counter clockwise but after several blasts of super tech it turns both ways

Harry James never sounded so AWESOME! Great sound and what a good looking little Maggie.
Love the emblem directly beside the treble knob...it's really large. The doors and that glass top look...very classy. And those Collaros were really superb. I notice all of those 78s in the background of the vid....Are they mostly big band ? Just wondering
