Just want to say I'm addicted to your videos, you gave me the motivation to fully strip my bike and rebuild it. Your inspiring attention to detail helped me to address a headset and brake cable routing issue that I've had for 2 years now on my custom built aero road bike. Thank you so much.
The UCI have been guilty of holding back innovation for three decades now. Great video Lee, thanks for taking the time to make this and Simon for the editing 😎🇫🇮
In the 1983 Peugeot catalogue, you will find the PX10FC, their Carbon Fibre tubing close-clearance frame with vertical dropouts. They were available in 7 sizes. 50 to 61cm. I met Mike Burrows at The Motor Industry Research Association wind tunnel when Chris Boardman was testing on the Lotus hour record bike. I had recently bought a used 1990 Peugeot 753 with Campag Chorus group, which weighed in at 20 lb. We talked about the Vitus Carbon Monocoque 1993 Peugeot, which was in 6 sizes. What Mike did was drop the toptube and reduce 6 to 3 sizes. NOT an exceptional step. Those customers who fell between sizes would take the size smaller and fit a longer stem extension. Let's face it, Raleigh's best selling bike ever was the Twenty Shopper, which came in ONE size. You adjusted the seatpin and stem to get it to fit you. All the 'compact' did was reduce manufacturing cost. Giant proclaimed it was the best bike to buy. They fitted groupsets that would give them the maximum mark-up. They made more money out of the unwitting cyclist
Thanks for giving us that insight into such an influential bike. It’s in amazing condition, quite a find. I can’t imagine there will be many still with original wheels and paintwork in such good order.
Great video Mr Bikespeeds, after seeing your video on restoring this TCR I went out and found another first generation remarkably, on marketplace and picked it up. Pretty much all original condition I'm hoping. After seeing this video I'm not so sure. I'm not sure if mine is later or has had components changed. Currently waiting on shipping and the bike to get here to see it in person. Thank you for your inspiration!
So that bike was an early slanted top tube frame. My Cannondale Topstone is similar. Between two sizes, I rode both and chose the larger for greater stack height as a touring bike. I was unaware of the adjustable stem, later ubiquitous on hybrids. Indeed a historic model!
Except that the top tube is sloping at a 45 degree angle and you have an oversized head tube. If you knew anything about racing, and engineering you would know that if you alter the head tube you alter how the bike tracks into corners. That why so many cyclists fall off today. A stupid design transfered over from a mountain bike design. Giant started out in America building mountain bikes. Go figure.
Merry Christmas to you and Simon looking forward to more videos. Nothing like finding a bit of history. I just acquired a early kestrel first full carbon frames …again enjoy😎
Nah the fundamentals are still there they sort of “kink” it in the middle instead, nearly all bikes have sloping top just to varying degrees. Probably a license thing.
thank you for the sharing.and i am very curious how could use a stem to fix selfie stick and the GoPro.could you show us how to do it and how make a cycling vlog like this one.❤❤
Just bought myself in the Black Friday sale a bargain on an XS tcr frameset in there lovely dragon fly colour way. I have yet to ride it as I still need to bleed the brakes, but sitting on it you can feel it puts you in a good place pretty quickly.
My first road bike was an OCR. Was a great bike. Wish I held on to it. I got a Mike Burrows seat post for it. Was carbon aero design. I believe it came from a TCR. I still have the seat post for some reason. I had a carbon fork fitted to it as well as the stock fork was aluminum and rather harsh feeling.
TCR stands for Total Compact Road. The TCR's frame design features a downward-sloping top tube and long seatpost, which was a radical departure from the dominant design of the time. This design resulted in a lighter, stiffer frame that improved power transfer and efficiency
That is a bunch of marketing crap and you know it. If you alter the head tube you alter how a bike handles and corners. Absolute bullshit logic you have.
@@taichihead42 the slopping top tube is clearly a lot different to the straight ones that came before and the UCI banning it is evidence that it had not been done prior to the TCR. Im not sure where marketing comes in unless the performance benefits are a lie and pros just rode the new frame style because they were told too
What a crappy, clickbait title. I dont care how good that bike is or how good your video is, the giant tcr had NO SUCH EFFECT. "The bike that brought bikes to the masses"....🤪🤪
What foresight Giant had to equip their bicycles with selfie sticks way back in the 1990s 🤔

great to see this lad riding again. merry christmas bike brother
Really appreciate the history story of the Giant TCR. Great video, thanks for the share.
very cool video. it's a great review in itself, but also does a nice job of putting this frame into the context of bikes as the time
would love to see more burrows bikes-maybe a ratcatcher or even an 8freight with its funny rear wheel

Thanks for this video big Giant tcr fan
And Merry Christmas
Nice one Lee ! Favourite brand ever! Have a good Xmas and catch you in the new year 👍👍🚴♂️
Imagine having this in 1997! A total spaceship.
Awesome bike dude looks lovely.. great to hear the history.. 😊 hope you and your family have had a wonderful Christmas 😊🎉🎅🎄 Pete 🚴🏻🚴🏻👍
As a Giant TCR owner I'm familiar with this bike frame great attributes....phenomenon climbing easy, stiff, rigid and awesome pedal to power transfer

This is another reason why I go straight to the comments, while watching. Very interesting and informative comment Thanks.
@@taichihead42You rather discredit whatever you say when you describe that as a 45°angle...
Still a great looking bike, a great xmas to all bikespeeds staff!
Happy new year to u guys happy cycling this year
Awesome bike especially the 105SC groupsset, happy festive seasons and Merry Christmas.🎅🎄🎄
Fabulous video. Happy new year to you and your son and the very best of health for 2025

What a beauty 💯
Pinarello's top tube may not be totally horizontal, but they have 'veered' away from that TCR-influence. And I might add, in the most beautiful way.
Nah the fundamentals are still there they sort of “kink” it in the middle instead, nearly all bikes have sloping top just to varying degrees. Probably a license thing.
What a nice bike that is!

Bleed the brakes 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅 Bleeding leave it out mate.
nice find . there was a OCR as well 🚴
My OCR2 (now resprayed and with a double 105, rather than original triple Tiagra) is by far still my favourite bike. Pure joy!

It looked radical back in the day. Still a cracking bike for the money.
No its not. It was a stupid crap bike that those dumb Americans came up with and destroyed traditional frame designs.
Nice bike! I was wondering if your cadence in this video is also your regular cadence, it seems very low.
When I started watching the channel you had less than 6k subs. 👍
Oh how I miss mine (someone stole it).

Same information there as the video we all just watched then 🙄

@@taichihead42 no idea, I've never rode one, I just pasted some Google info on the original TCR 🤷🏻

Yes it did. Now cycling looks like a clown show.
YES, BUT IT HAS AWFUL SHIMA(NO!) KIT ON IT!!!
