  • Over a decade ago, we visited Estonia. We've come back to meet the same people and see how their lives have changed. The fisherwoman from the island of Saaremaa has opened a shop, and the former student has found a job in the university town of Tartu. But the power station employee in Narva is still skeptical about the integration of the Russian population - just some of many Estonian voices.

This video was published in 2013 but its "fresh view" of Estonia is like from 2009. Now, 2014, it is much more technological than it looks in this documentary. That museum is only a percent of all that.

Both my grandmother and grandfather were Estonian. My grandmother taught language at Tartu .My grandfather was A minister of Health Both sets of their parents were either shot by Russians or killed via being sent one way tickets to Siberia. They and their family (including my mother)Were forced to flee to Germany ,where they lived for 7 years in a refugee camp.Luckily in the British sector - This meant a life in Canada. They prospered,as I do here never forgetting Estonian friends, and our roots.
.I hope the Russians understand it may be hard to forgive this history with open arms.Canada has sent 6 Cf-18's because there are many Estonians in this country that don't trust your sneaky asses.I'm sure you didn't complain when Russia helped themselves to the country. It was never yours to feel a loss of,because it was never yours to get attached to.My grandfather spoke Russian as a second language. That wasn't enough. You wanted his country.Again.I will return one day.I am just getting my EU passport now.
I love the country of my mother, her mothers mother, her mothers mother..and it's language. We are here watching you..from Canada ..loving Estonia,Minu kallis Isamaa and keeping an eye on the rest of you.Don't worry. No one is abandoned. If you must spread like wild seeds do so.Just never forget we are growing everywhere, not shriveling as some might wish it or have it.We will spread ; we will come home.
We are in the States in good schools, both learning and teaching ; In Canada likewise ; in hospitals ; laboratories ; courts ; as musicians ; artists ; singers ;lovers ; dreamers. We did not stay to die as my great grandparents did. That was not an option. We had to survive so we could one day return.I just hope you remember us as we remember you.Nothing personal about Russians, but this 'little vacation' need not have taken place!
P.S. Toronto and even little ol' Halifax hold our own, make delicious rasolja, pirukad, enjoy A le coq with it(haven't seen Saku for a while). We celebrate independence day yearly. We are saddened to miss a song festival. We get along with Russians of all sort here as well.So don't be the dicks we keep hearing you are back home- just because you speak Russian doesn't mean you own the country you are in.- one last note -Estonian women are revered as the most beautiful women on earth in Canada and the US.IMO this is true.

Stop hating Russians so much, there are no estonians in that region in fact the estonians are minority out there, probably less than 1% and even then all the estonians speak russian out there even between themselves.
There is also another problem that for about 300 years before estonia gained independence (for 1 day) there were under Russian rule, same as Finland for example - so many russians think that it's their land by right and that they don't have to learn estonian even though it's a part of estonia officially, however Russian and Estonia have no border treaty as of yet, so I won't be surprised if that problem region will become part of Russia one day as what estonians did they ruined the region on purpose as they though that all the russians will go "BACK HOME", but they STILL don't understand that it's their home and the russians are not welcomed in russia, so all the factories were closed because the estonian goverment refused to trade with russia full stop - which was silly of them as if you look at Finland 80% of their trade is with russia and their economy is blooming!
Also Russian is a 5th spoken language in the world, so why on earth would you learn estonian where is just 0.5 mln people on the planet speak that language??? The estonian language will die in less than 100 years and it has been proven by the estonian scientists...

Don't be an idiot. They're Russians, some them and their ancestors lived on the territory of modern Estonia for over 400 years - and by law they're considered immigrants and have ALIEN Gray passports - meaning No citizenship. With that kind of attitude the Russians will never learn Estonian. Also who wants to learn the language who has just 0.5 mln natives? It's like asking you to learn a language of a Native Americans, where is not that many people speak it in the US... The Estonian will disappear sooner or later - and it has been proven by Estonians.

Firstly while Belarus and Ukraine are certainly Russian lands Estonia is not, it isn't Slavic and never has been and saying that it should be incorporated into the Russian Federation because it has many Russians living there is like saying that Germany should be owned by Turkey.
That said Estonia is more developed and richer than Russia although it has many more demographic issues and lacks any form of political and economic power.

This video has a lot of inaccuracies. Estonia's EU accession has nothing to do with residents of Estonia having to pay for visa to go to Russia. First of all, Russian visa requirements are determined by Russia, not Estonia or EU. Secondly, those requirements depend on the passport that an applicant holds, and nothing has changed in terms of visa requirements for passports since Estonian accession to EU.

Warren Clarke And Estonia was an independent Nation starting in 1921. I doubt there are a lot of Russians left from 1704. Most of the current Russians were moved in by the Soviet occupiers and have no right to be there. Lucky we don't kick them out though most choose to stay since life in Russia sucks.

Погонщик контуженых тролей Estonians and Russians can actually get along because the economy is doing so well in Estonia. The Russians there choose to stay because the standard of living is so much better than Russia or Eastern Ukraine. As far as you calling people chimps, well that just shows you what the Javelin missiles Estonia has are meant for. Enjoy your life in the Russian paradise of Eastern Ukraine.

2012isRonPaul Estonia was not ethnically cleaned up from past occupiers in the 1920s and 1930s. The Baltic Germans left only in 1939 after the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.
Lenin and mostly Stalin were the bad ones, Churchill could have been the one to confront the Soviet Union to grant the Baltics back their independence, as we've learned quite recently Roosevelt didn't give a fuck about the Baltics and thought they should've remained part of Russia after WWI.
The EU hasn't ruined Estonia, quite opposite actually. It has poured money into Estonia, most of our infrastructure was built by EU money.

Maybe when the Russian Empire and Union of Soviet Socialist Republics existed, but now that they don't and Estonia is independent it should be the opposite way around, if the Russians want to stay then they should assimilate or simply leave, as any foreign culture should do.
And while the Russian Federation does have one of the highest literacy rates in the world it is not the "smartest country" by a long shot, tough, but not extraordinarily intelligent.

Says who? Russians? Estonians and Russians are two very different people (where not even slavic), so claiming that Estonia should belong to Russia is stupid. Its like if Denmark started claiming that Estonia should belong to them because they once held lands here.

Prince Sibanda Stay in Africa and make a life there. You're not welcomed in Europe. Too much trouble by immigrants.
