My dad went through ALOT in his childhood. When I sat him down to talk it out and he revealed so many details I never knew, it finally made alot of sense. We got the lighter version which was still bad enough. Doesn't excuse what he did but gave context to why he is the way he is. I was able to forgive (giving all that sadness and anger to God). I really had to grieve the type of dad I wanted because he didn't exist. I don't trust him to guide me in how to date, select a husband (and future father of my children), based on who I know him to be (i.e. values, relationship with Christ, how he treats his wife/kids and others) so I turn to the Lord's example in His Word. Alot of those qualities are the opposite of my dad. I learned to be cordial and assert boundaries to protect myself. I began praying for him too for the Lord to soften his heart and heal him.🙏

The word says he will not hear our prayers nor will he forgive us of our own trespasses if we do not forgive others. On top of that, I was tired of the sad and traumatic memories haunting me and driving me to anger. I had to give it all to God and say I don't want this anymore, please help me. Do not let another person interfere with your relationship with God. It's not worth it. Remember that vengeance is the Lord's. Pray that he eventually repents but if he doesn't, TRUST that the Lord will handle him. 🙏

I used to believe that forgiveness meant staying but you can forgive and keep your distance respectfully too. The old me would stay in broken friendships and would get mad when I'd find myself in the same situation again. It's a bit like playing with fire and expecting not to get burnt. We all have flaws but just move wisely. We also (myself included) need to check where we fall short too so we can continuously evolve. Sometime the ppl you dislike are there to teach you something you dislike about yourself. I'm working on forgiveness myself but it is extremely hard with having to expose yourself too and the things we need to heal within us.
1. If you are waiting on somebody’s apology or permission to forgive them, you’re never going to move on 2. When you’re in a toxic relationship and someone finds what they’re really looking for, that toxic relationship is over 3. Unforgiveness is like a pit of acid in your stomach/heart that is only hurting you. It doesn’t hurt the other person at all 4. If Jesus can forgive the people that beat Him, u can forgive that person too

As a forgiveness coach, so many people mistake reconciliation, trust, re-access, and excusing evil behavior as forgiveness. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. Forgiveness is for our betterment and healing. I’ve apologized and went on with my life where it regarded my wrongs in each of my relationships even though I was the one who walked away from them all as well.
