I've never heard of this model before, and that it ever got made surprises me because a Mini Bic will fit virtually anywhere, so why would one want a lighter built into one's knife? As with any tool, reliability is everything, and it surprises me that Victorinox failed in this. Mini Bic and Mini Magnesium & Ferro Rod combo would be preferable to this, it occupies too much tool space for my liking. Thank you for showing this rarity, and how it may be improved.

Very nice job. Why is there cotton in that brass tube in the first place? Do other butane lights have that too? It looks like the lighter would work without the cotton in there. Maybe the cotton acts as a filter for particles in the fuel. That would explain why some peoples clog up I guess.
The cotton in the brass tube acts like a filter and it also is what "regulates" the flow of the butane. As you tighten down the adjustment screw, it compacts the cotton to reduce the flow of the gas, then when you loosen up the adjustment screw it lets more gas flow. I don't know if all lighters have this system. I have never fixed a butane lighter before. 🤣 This was originally just an experiment. Take it apart and try to find the problem. 😝 After I successfully fixed two, I decided to record the process of the third for others to see.
@@FittoSurvive Thanks for the reply! They should have made something like a piston that rides in a cone shaped sleeve to regulate flow if that makes sense, it wouldn’t have a filter, but I don’t know if other butane lighters do either. Sounds like the cotton is not rebounding causing it to bunch up and not allow the gas through. I would try to find a way to reassemble the knives with screws that way you can open them again if it stops working again. The pressure from the gas might compress the cotton over time causing the clog.
@@nicksantitoro That would make sense actually. It's unfortunate that Victorinox discontinued the model instead of finding a solution for it. Yeah, it is inevitable that the cotton will get compacted. Assembling the knife with torx screws is a good idea to be able to service the lighter.

Why would anyone buy this instead of a $1.00 Bic Lighter? I understand they are sought out by collectors and I just saw one on Ebay for $400.00 dollars. But for all practical purposes they're stupid, because the area designated for the lighter could hold useful tools, and a waste of money. I'd just buy a standard SAK and a Bic Lighter.
The vast majority of the regular everyday problem with refillable butane lighters is as you know substandard butane used to refill them. They are fragile, far more expensive and difficult that the throw away models😂 When I carried and used one daily it was a Rhino lighter and I used the most refined fuel I could obtain. Now if I use a refillable lighter its lighter fluid based peanut style for the outdoors and longevity of fuel between refilling. This is a cool collectible but there's no way I would want to stake my life on it
That is true. One of the ones that I fixed was bran new, still had that the plastic wrap around the box. I filled it up and would hiss, but wouldn't ignite. Buy yeah, I get what you mean. I wouldn't want one of these to be my one fire source in an emergency situation.

@@bulletprooftactical9842 Yeah, every once in a while they will go for $250 - $270. But not very often.
@@FittoSurvive I will keep an eye out and hopefully I can get it for the 250 range and get it working! Stay safe my friend.
@@bulletprooftactical9842 Sounds great! You too! 👍🏻 Merry Christmas in advance! 😁
Спасибо,очень интересно. Вы молодец!
Пожалуйста! Я рад слышать. Спасибо.
Hello , wonderful job . I subscribe
Hey! Thank you!
from the looks of this, one could pull the valve assembly without disassembling the knife...
That is correct, but only if you remove the brass adjustment stopper.
@@FittoSurvive i regret returning mine. Had it for over a decade before it failed. Victorinox gave me a cybertool in its place. Wouldn't be without it now.
@@TheAussieRepairGuy Oh wow... Yeah, that is definitely unfortunate.
@@FittoSurvive got another one, got it apart, and got the lighter working, then the tank fractured...
been lusting after a working one for 20 years. going to see if I can repair tank or substitute another similar one from a lighter.
I'm doing a video on it and will reference your video.
@@TheAussieRepairGuy I had that happen to me on one lighter. It had saltwater damage and the plastic crumbled.
It's one hell of a nightmare. They should have made it so you can repair it without undoing the whole knife.
Yeah, for sure! That would have been very convenient.
I've been looking at a victorinox with a lighter for a long time. I always kinda wanted one However I could never justify buying one
They are really pricey, but also really collectable. If they are in working condition, they are even more expensive.
Eres loco !!!!!!👍
Gracias!
Cool
Thanks!
Отлично 👍

Mine never worked from day 1...
Yep, for some reason, most of them never did work. This fix might work for you though. 👍🏻
@@FittoSurvive thanks for the video! Please let us know if it continues to work over a 1 Month period for example.
@@KungFuTweety1 Will do. 👍🏻
Now ur getting me thinking..lol... i would love a Yeoman with an extra layer file/reamer and a lighter that works! Wow! My dream edc!!!
@@KungFuTweety1 Would be pretty cool. But the file can't share a layer with the reamer.
never sold in the us cause it didnt have a safety feature? what do you mean victorinox, it has a safety feature, not working
🤣🤣🤣 Good point. It's a very safe feature!
I have this knife, mine doesn't work either 🤣🤣
Yeah, almost none of the do. And the ones that do, don't usually work for long.
Verena informative.
Thanks! 👍🏻
Та ти геній. Де ж ти був раніше коли я відмовився від покупки такого ножа через несправну запальничку
Дякую! Я хотів би, щоб я зрозумів це раніше. 😉😁
200 th comment and I want one
Nice! 👍🏻👍🏻
Cowabunga.!
Yeah! 👍🏻👍🏻
😳🥰
👍🏻😎🔥
Que no
I can fix it. Don’t need open it.
Nice. 👍🏻👍🏻 But won't you damage the brass adjustment stopper?
@@FittoSurvive Of course I'm quite fond of the old Zippo too. Lighter fluid as I might have said before is an average of $100 a gallon in the US, but I still love the nostalgia. So I'm wondering about the new Zippo butane soft flame butane insert that employs the standard spark wheel...now THATS cool. Just swap cases. No leak, and as long as you use quintuple high grade fuel it MIGHT be ok😂
@@tikkidaddy Interesting. I haven't seen the newer Zippo yet apparently. I'll have to check that out.
You know (sorry I forgot to add) about the Thunderbird torch flame inserts of course out for years, now there are even electric arc Zippo inserts.😆...Apologies again, but fire craft is a hobby...
@@tikkidaddy I have used some of the arc lighters before. They are cool, but do have their limitations.
Can i buy it somewhere? please give me a link if someone has it
Very informative
Awesome. Thanks. 👍🏻
