Awesome video! I would have to rank the top 5 as. 1. 89 Upper Deck Kengriffey Jr. 2. 80 Topps Rickey Henderson 3. 85 Topps Mark McGwire 4. 84 Donruss Don Mattingly 5. 86 Donruss Jose Canseco It's tough, though. There are so many awesome cards from the 80s.
@@3GoodNerds I wondered if you’d have an opinion on the Mattingly. I think that most folks like the Donruss because of its value. To me, it’s the least desirable card of the 3. Thanks for watching.
Congratulations on hitting 100 subs, Steve! Also, I do like the design of the Will Clark absolutely stunning. To be fair, I enjoyed all the retros/vintage looks of the cards you showed.
Fantastic cards. That Joe Carter at the beginning is a fantastic looking card. I agree about Tim Raines. His Traded is much better. The 86 Will Clark Traded is my favorite. Ryne Sanberg is my favorite player but being a cubs fan.... lol. All awesome cards enjoyed.
@@FreeSportsCards-c8r good question! Lol. I love so many cards. RC card wise it would he the 83 Donruss Sandberg, 86 Topps Will Clark, 81 Traded Cal Ripken Jr. But this could flip in so many ways. 80s had some beautiful sets and cards.
Maddox was the first to win the Cy Young Award at least three times in a row (four years from 92-95) but Steve Carlton was the first to take home four awards.
@@thefootballguyusa7941 I like when people throw names out that I might have missed. Other than Nolan Ryan I didn’t feel comfortable including cards that weren’t rookies or close to rookies. It has occurred to me that if this video goes well, maybe I’ll do another top 25 cards (or 20), that excludes rookies entirely.
@@FreeSportsCards-c8r Only 3? Well, I'll have to include one '87 Barry Larkin rookie, probably the Donruss but I really like them all. The second card would be the 1982 Topps Traded Cal Ripken. That was a holy grail kind of card back in the day. For the third card, I'd have to include the '88 Donruss Matt Williams just because he's a local guy who I played against in high school. The card is a SP from that set, as is the Tom Glavine rookie, but I'm giving the edge to The Carson Crusher for the personal connection and also because I really think people forget how genuinely good Matt was in his career. 378 HR, 1218 RBI, significant MVP votes 4 different times and a career WAR of 47. I realize those aren't Hall Of Fame numbers but they are perhaps the best numbers of any 3B from the '80's & '90's (Who isn't named Chipper). If you'd asked for more, the three '83 Topps rookies of Gwynn, Boggs & Sandberg would all have to be included. I really love that set. The '84 Donruss Don Mattingly card just because of that mystique those '84 Donruss cards had. I'd include the '88 Score Update Roberto Alomar card. I loved those orange borders. The '88 Donruss Glavine would have made an expanded list. As much as I dislike the PED guys, I'd put the '85 Fleer Clemens card on the list. I'd include the '85 Fleer Puckett too. I still really like those grey borders. I could keep going but I'd start duplicating some of yours and, to be honest, the list could probably go on, and on, and on, and on . . . lol Thanks for asking & keep up the great work!
Thank you for the best response ever!! I agree that the '85 Fleer cards look great. Interesting that you played against Matt Williams. I haven't heard that name in probably decades but you are right that he was legitimately great. I think the cards from the tail end of this 80's decade don't get the respect that they deserve because they were part of the heart of the junk wax era.
That was a very popular card and I can still remember being excited to find one. There are cards that I wish that I could have included in my top 25. For instance a Saberhagen or Hershiser Rookie.
@@rtemp579 I briefly considered including his ‘82 traded card but I couldn’t find room for him. Maybe someday I’ll make another list that excludes rookies that might make room for The Wizard.

Awesome choices, Steve! Rickey Henderson was one of my absolute favorite players of all-time. Thanks for sharing
@@scottspaulding2158 thanks for watching! Rickey was a beast. He’d either hit a home run or walk. If he walked he’d steal 2nd and third. Unstoppable.
