Marco, you gotta check out Persona 5/Persona 5 Royal's OST. "No More What Ifs", "Last Surprise", "Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There", "Take Over", "Colors Flying High", "Rivers in the Desert", and "Beneath the Mask" are particular favorites. I also really love "Gentle Madman", though it's purely instrumental. The entire OST is a blend of smoothe acid jazz and contemporary rock.
Only games I’ve heard of on this list is Oninaki, Rain World, Hollow Knight, Ikaruga, Spark the Electric Jester, Shantae, Trauma Center, Seasons, Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney, Sonic Unleashed, Freedom Planet, Bastion, Luffia 2, Goemon, Void Stranger, dot Hack Infection, and Katamari. I’ve only played dot Hack Infection. And I’ve only played the N64 Goemon games.
Here's a fun fact: The composer of Echochrome, Hideki Sakamoto, just did the soundtrack for Mario and Luigi: Brothership. He also wrote Smash Ultimate's main theme, Lifelight!
It bothers me a little that a Sonic Unleashed track was in a quiz about obscure videogame music, probably that fact it's meant to be a troll, but still. The whole soundtrack is so good it deserves to be extremely mainstream.
Well... indeed, Sonic Unleashed in no obscure game! Honestly I put that because it has an amazing violin, and that part of the quiz had a bunch of violin/strings focused tracks, I thought it would be nice to include it. And yes, whole soundtrack is incredible!
I recognized it immediately and I've never even played Sonic Unleashed, it feels like if you just sort of casually follow gaming youtube you'd end up hearing it it's definitely not obscure. Should have used Wrapped in Black tbh.
Honestly based videogame music quiz. Finally something that doesn't just showcase the usual 10 famous song to make people feel good about their OST knowledge
That game rocks! I usually don't like turn based game but it really has so much passion poured into every game of the series, from OST to mechanics and animation.
I heard the Tor music and I was like "Oh, I hope he listens to Iji - General Tor" and then the chorus hit and I realized it _was the track I was just thinking of._ Clipped the song in a place strange enough that I didn't recognize it, well done whoever made this quiz. Marco, you ought to really consider playing Iji, it's pretty good.
The specific parts of each song seem deliberately chosen for maximum confusion on top of the obscurity This whole thing is masterfully crafted. Even the games I should recognize are, like, parts that sound a little bit more like they're from something else like the Bastion song, or like Hollow Knight using the phase 2 Soul Master theme, or from games I played like 16 years ago
@extantcadence2707 The Bastion song got me, too. Sorta. I listened to it and I was like "Ah, that's definitely Transistor!" and then it was actually Bastion. Same ballpark (same devs,) but wrong game.

I almost feel bad for asking a while back if you took community submitted quizzes. But hey, at least we had a good time and discovered some new songs! I considered making an obscure list myself, but I never got around to making one. It's nice to see what it would look like here. I barely got any of these right myself! I got Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, because its composer has a fairly distinct style. I honestly recommend looking up Anamanaguchi. They absolutely carry the game, and their style of music even carries outside of the game, and they were a major inspiration for Toby Fox! Anamanaguchi acknowledged this and even did their own cover of the song they inspired in UT. (Hopes and Dreams) I got Trauma Center - Gentle Breeze because that song is memed all over the internet. It's famous for being that song that everyone uses that no one knows the source of. Also fun fact about Trauma Center - it's made by Atlus, which are the developers for the Persona series! They're also owned by Sega. It's probably no surprise I got Sonic Unleashed - Windmill Isle Day. It is the only Sonic game I've played, after all. (At least up to Frontiers' release) ALSO I own and have played Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney but I don't remember any of the music from that game. (Aside from standout tracks) I should've gotten Super Hexagon, but my brain immediately went to VVVVVV. The soundscapes of the games are fairly similar. If I do end up doing my own list I should absolutely include a song from VVVVVV.
I hope you have enjoyed the quiz! Personally I think the more list of obscure music the better, so I encourage you to do it! It doesn't need to be a quiz like this one, though.

3:56 As a Korean, I'm glad to see you come into first contact with La Tale's great music. In addition to MapleStory, there are some classic Korean games with great OSTs, such as TalesWeaver and Mabinogi.
The entire Sonic Unleashed sound track is dope. Two tracks (day and night) to evoke different parts of the world, like tracks inspired by Greek seasides, a Chinese Village, New York City, African Savannah, etc.
I'm discovering that behind a lot of these tracks are whole games worth of same-caliber music, I'm discovering HOURS worth of absolute bangers! These are some of my favorite videos on the channel
Bro woke up and decided that he will make a "video game music quiz and god forbid if anyone recognizes at least 1 of these". Never cook again Love to Marco
La-mulana has a very fantastic soundtrack overall and diserves a full listen. the others gotten right were bastion, Scott pilgrim, Luftrausers, Lufia 2, Super Hexagon, and Shantae.
Oh my god Rochard mentioned!! I immediately knew the song but I couldn't remember where it was from. Fun fact, the OST for Rochard is made by the lead keyboardist of Poets of the Fall.
Reminded me a VGM playlist I used to listen to growing up! Crazy how so many in the quiz were also on that playlist! "I've heard this before, but I can't quite place it!" XD
@@IvoryMadness. That's the one! Soon as I heard Iji - Tor, Pachislot, and Zwei, I thought "it's from that playlist I listened to!" At one time, it went down; or I guess it was moving servers, webpages, or something and I couldn't find it anymore! Glad it's still kicking!
Yoooo ikaruga mentioned. Fun thing about the game is that its technically a sequel from another bullet hell of the 90s. That theme is also the first and last song you hear when you complete a run The game is such a cult classic in the Shoot em up world, it gets ports to new consoles to this day, 23 years after relese in arcades.
That koumwjou densetsu song sounded so heavily inspired by castlevania x on SNES level 1 track it’s almost uncanny, when listening I instantly knew if it wasn’t castlevania it would have been heavily inspired by such. Also props for throwing in Lufia 2 into the mix. Criminally underrated gem of a jrpg on snes and all the battle and boss themes are among the best of any rpg on the system
Ooooh, 13:55 Luftrausers was fun! The bass line, drums and melody was dependent on what you equipped on three slots for your plane (weapon engine etc), the standardised tracks are on Spotify and assaultrauser is ny personal favourite ^^ Also, only got Monty on the Run and Gun Smoke correct
The second the Burning Rangers theme said the name of the game 5 times and it wasn’t clocked what the game could possibly be, I knew we were in for a good time. Also talk about great taste. A number of gems in there I haven’t heard in years and absolutely adore.
I’m glad I at least got Rain World, but the worst part of this was feeling like I knew the theme, and then seeing the game and being like “I guess I didn’t actually recognize that song”
Holy hell, now that was really hard actually. I heard about some of those, some are even in my steam and GOG library waiting years already to be played. The only one that I recognized was Xanadu Next. I almost recognized Zwei, because it has it's Falcom music vibe, but I didn't played it enough and it was about 6-7 years ago. So yeah, you can relax Marco, this one was really hard this time. BTW, you really should listen to Falcom music. OST in their game may not be groundbreaking, but it's really good and absolute blast to get in the mood for some adventures. Absolutely recommend to listen Sunshine Coastline from Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, Zero no Kiseki from Trails from Zero, The Red Wings -New Wind- from Trails of Cold Steel and Blue Destination from Trails of Cold Steel 2. You may not even make a reaction video, just listen to those, those are really nice.
Oh, the Spark theme. Love Funk Fiction and his work. I got to learn about him through Sonic fan games Before the Sequel and After the Sequel. Give their soundtracks a listen. One of their other composers, Falk, worked on the music of Sonic Mania.
It was kinda funny that Marco mentioned some of the games looked like Touhou, and there was one game that was actually a Touhou fangame, but didn't look like Touhou, so he didn't mention it.
8:55 is the only one I recognized by tune because I've heard it in YTPs. I would never have guessed it came from Trauma Center. I've played Nitronic Rush and Distance (they're "racing" games) but I didn't recognize either of the tracks chosen for the video. Most games in this video, I've never heard of, so this was definitely made as a "check out just how much music so many people are sleeping on" showcase. 18:43 "WHAT IS LA MULANA" 18:47 "Just like one popular game" when a lot of the games here have been pretty popular :P Just goes to show how many games there are
Seeing Katamari on here just made me realize how much I would LOVE to see you react to that soundtrack; it's like listening to an actual album outside of a videogame OST
8:16 the fact that it took me less than a second to recognize its Love You Love You Love from Mighty Switch Force really reminded me of how AMAZING this game's OST was. Please check it if you have the opportunity! (there's MSF1 and 2, with the 1st one being you playing as a police officer and the sequel as a firefighter)
I got 6 right. I think that's pretty good considering the difficulty of the quiz. Whoever made this quiz is such a troll. 0:44 Temple of the Sun theme from La-Mulana Remake and then the non-remake version of the same theme later on. 1:03 Vocals: "Burning Rangers"; Game: Burning Rangers. 2:35 A Castlevania pachinko game. Oh no... 5:41 The most unrecognizable piece of music from a very popular game. 7:32 We are including modded content now? 14:54 Stage 1 theme from Rondo of Blood, except it's Touhou
I recognized the Soulmaster Phase 2 from Hollow Knight because I played that game so much. I also played Seasons after Fall but that was to long ago so I couldn't recognize the music. This list was pure evil.
I knew none of the other games, but I instantly CLOCKED the one from Hollow Knight (somehow automatically recognized the background "muffled chatter", though I did think it was more from the Coliseum of Fools than Soul Sanctum)
Honestly was about to be 0 and 0 with you, but Burning Rangers and WayForward music got me out of the hole. Lots of crazy stuff I haven't heard before! All very good!
19:24 Glad to see that people still remember the dot hack series. The story being told in different types of media was a very risky idea but very interesting even to this day.
I got 2 songs, knew 7 games from the list, only played 3. This list is insane thou! I was looking for something like this and this hit the spot! Great music from unknown games
Bastion and Luftrausers made me gasp in happiness not just because I recognized them but because its some of my favorite games of all time... ...But Kane and Lynch made me nearly choke from the way it just caught me waaaaaay offguard. I love that I know so much about a stupid obscure game series that I have never played and had 0 previous knowledge of before f*cking Pyrocynical made a whole essay on it.
Holy cow that was actually extremely hard, but all these tracks were bangers so I forgive it being impossible lol Some of these songs I actually recognized hearing a long time ago, but never actually discovering where they came from. I only got 5 games right: Scott Pilgrim, Spark the Electric Jester, Echochrome, Bastion and Sonic Unleashed
I got Nitronic Rush, Bastion, and Jaguar XJ220, I couldn't believe that popped up at the end, played that game when I was like 10, one of many fantastic soundtracks from the Amiga.
Got six right, which was more than I was expecting to get. Kind of helped that two of the entires were effectively from the same game: the original and the remake. Also, the counterpoint in that Bastion song is SO good.
Barely know any of the games but what a jam those OSTs are. Also, Marco guessing about young child navigating the adulthood is close-ish to rainworld plot without the adulthood.
I love how the first one gave me confidence because I knew it was Scott Pilgrim and then got bodied by everything else on this list LMAO. WHAT ARE THESE GAMES?!
Me: Oh damn! That's La Tale music! I haven't played that in forever! Marco: La Tale? What is La Tale? Me, snickering: La Tale is Maplestory, but taller.
Games I recognized: Scott Pilgrim, La Mulana, Rain World, Spark the Electric Jester, Shantae Half Genie Hero, Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney, Rythm Thief, Freedom Planet, Bastion, Super Hexagon, Void Stranger, Zwei, House in Fata Morgana, Kane and Lynch 2 Game's I've played: Beat Buddy, Hollow Knight, Ikaruga, Terraria, Mighty Switch Force, Sonic Unleashed, Gun Smoke, Katamari Damacy Music I recognized: Trauma Center 2
> Be me. > Watch the video and decide to try alongside Marco. > Only fail to recognize 3 of those games (including the Sonic one because I didn't thought there was going to be any mainstream franchise). > Realize those are all either indies or forgotten gems. > ME BEING A GIANT INDIE GAMES NERD AND LOVER CONFIRMED :c

My favorite thing about this is that it's not even all obscure games. I expected to not get anything and then here comes Shantae, Freedom Planet, and Sonic Unleashed lol
3 of my favorite games on the thumbnail was a welcomed surprise
3:56 As a Korean, I'm glad to see you come into first contact with La Tale's great music. In addition to MapleStory, there are some classic Korean games with great OSTs, such as TalesWeaver and Mabinogi.
The entire Sonic Unleashed sound track is dope. Two tracks (day and night) to evoke different parts of the world, like tracks inspired by Greek seasides, a Chinese Village, New York City, African Savannah, etc.
8:32 LOL WHY WAS THAT SO IN SYNC
I should have expected to not get anything when the video is titled troll edition
Trauma Center and Sonic were the only two I got
That person was evil for adding music from MODS.
Never cook again
Love to Marco
Only let this guy cook tbh
La-mulana has a very fantastic soundtrack overall and diserves a full listen. the others gotten right were bastion, Scott pilgrim, Luftrausers, Lufia 2, Super Hexagon, and Shantae.
Oh my god Rochard mentioned!! I immediately knew the song but I couldn't remember where it was from. Fun fact, the OST for Rochard is made by the lead keyboardist of Poets of the Fall.
1:42 I though they were gonna start playing Sandstorm there for a second 😂
This makes me want to go back to all the indie (often free) games from itch io that I played over the years and pay more attention to the music
And the flash games from my childhood too
@@novae756 i recomend the flashpoint project
Reminded me a VGM playlist I used to listen to growing up!
Crazy how so many in the quiz were also on that playlist! "I've heard this before, but I can't quite place it!" XD
I took some music from the vipvgm, was this the playlist you mentioned? As far as I know the guy is still adding new musics to it!
@@IvoryMadness. That's the one! Soon as I heard Iji - Tor, Pachislot, and Zwei, I thought "it's from that playlist I listened to!"
At one time, it went down; or I guess it was moving servers, webpages, or something and I couldn't find it anymore! Glad it's still kicking!
Yoooo ikaruga mentioned. Fun thing about the game is that its technically a sequel from another bullet hell of the 90s. That theme is also the first and last song you hear when you complete a run
The game is such a cult classic in the Shoot em up world, it gets ports to new consoles to this day, 23 years after relese in arcades.
The bass line, drums and melody was dependent on what you equipped on three slots for your plane (weapon engine etc), the standardised tracks are on Spotify and assaultrauser is ny personal favourite ^^
Also, only got Monty on the Run and Gun Smoke correct
The most obscure list ever made, love the EBF and Bullet Heaven inclusions though lol
Super excited with my 1 out of however many songs just played, it was really cool to see an ACTUALLY DIFFICULT video game music quiz.
The second the Burning Rangers theme said the name of the game 5 times and it wasn’t clocked what the game could possibly be, I knew we were in for a good time.
Also talk about great taste. A number of gems in there I haven’t heard in years and absolutely adore.
I’m glad I at least got Rain World, but the worst part of this was feeling like I knew the theme, and then seeing the game and being like “I guess I didn’t actually recognize that song”
didn't expect to hear spark the electric jester here at all lmao
"Wow, these are some out there picks. Heard of some of these games but I don't think I'll recognise any-"
5:21
"IJI MENTION LET'S GOOOOOOOO"
Oh, the Spark theme. Love Funk Fiction and his work. I got to learn about him through Sonic fan games Before the Sequel and After the Sequel.
Give their soundtracks a listen. One of their other composers, Falk, worked on the music of Sonic Mania.
No Straight Roads too
Great collection, not ashamed to score 0/2 of the ones i actually came across prior to watching the vid.
It was kinda funny that Marco mentioned some of the games looked like Touhou, and there was one game that was actually a Touhou fangame, but didn't look like Touhou, so he didn't mention it.
I haven't finished the vid yet, but I am SO glad I got La Mulana, thank you Albino for streaming that goated game
I like how you could do an entire quiz like this of only jake kaufman songs without using any songs that sound even remotely similar
18:43 "WHAT IS LA MULANA"
18:47 "Just like one popular game" when a lot of the games here have been pretty popular :P Just goes to show how many games there are
Seeing Katamari on here just made me realize how much I would LOVE to see you react to that soundtrack; it's like listening to an actual album outside of a videogame OST
The Monty on the run theme is actually a masterpiece considering the hardware it was written for.
Managed to get Ikaruga, mostly because it uses the same soundfont as the boss theme.
Both La Mulana games have some absolute bangers, especially for an indie game!
Yeah I love listening to both games’ OST
So many bangers in this video that ive never heard of!
Marco's gonna be in an rabbit hole of music if he ever dips his toes into Epic Battle Fantasy
I swear to god if i hear a single PGR track in this
I heard a chipset thing and proudly shouted "VVVVVV!"
It was super hexagon.
This one was ridiculously hard, I only recognized 6 of them, and I've been playing for more than 40 years.
You have to hear more of the music from Headhunter. It was produced in the Abbey Road Studios. The same studio "The Beatles" used. 😉
19:24
Glad to see that people still remember the dot hack series. The story being told in different types of media was a very risky idea but very interesting even to this day.
I got 2 songs, knew 7 games from the list, only played 3. This list is insane thou! I was looking for something like this and this hit the spot! Great music from unknown games
I'm proud of myself actually knowing a few, I'd definitely consider this more of a "discovery" video for game music though. GG.
Holy cow that was actually extremely hard, but all these tracks were bangers so I forgive it being impossible lol
Some of these songs I actually recognized hearing a long time ago, but never actually discovering where they came from.
Your community member is clearly a demon in disguise, sent here to torment you and any who dare believe that they can recognize any song.
hHHHHgHahahahahahah
I was jumpscared by Bullet Heaven 2, and instantly i felt a tears
Got six right, which was more than I was expecting to get. Kind of helped that two of the entires were effectively from the same game: the original and the remake. Also, the counterpoint in that Bastion song is SO good.
Ah! At least someone noticed it! 😄
actually pointed at my screen after not getting anything and void stranger popping up, awesome game and OST!
I can proudly declare that I knew almost all of the games, knew which games the tracks were before they were shown, and I got even 2 right.
Games I recognized: Scott Pilgrim, La Mulana, Rain World, Spark the Electric Jester, Shantae Half Genie Hero, Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney, Rythm Thief, Freedom Planet, Bastion, Super Hexagon, Void Stranger, Zwei, House in Fata Morgana, Kane and Lynch 2
Game's I've played: Beat Buddy, Hollow Knight, Ikaruga, Terraria, Mighty Switch Force, Sonic Unleashed, Gun Smoke, Katamari Damacy
Music I recognized: Trauma Center 2
I think you're the first person here in the comments mentioning that have played Beat Buddy 😂😂
I hope you liked the quiz!
Getting the "Spark the Electric Jester" one made me feel like a genius. LOL
I also guessed "Distance" on the other driving game, and then the next game was actually "Distance".
Man, I remember playing XJ220 and similar games back in the day,
must be close to 30 years now since I fired up the ol' Amiga 500.
Spark the Electric Jester is a Sonic inspired game with 2 and 3 going off of the Adventure formula. Sonic has inspired quite a few unique projects like Freedom Planet and Rollin Rascal.
I like how after a while he gave up guessing and he is just vibing and learning 😂
