I don't know too much about it, but I have heard that birds have a syrinx, which (compared to the larynxes of mammals) is much more efficient and powerful when it comes to creating loud noises.

Beautiful bird with a loud scream just like the one in the video! Another thing the Flicker does is find a metal pipe, slide or chimney and rat-ta-tat on it so loud it’s deafening especially if you’re inside the house with the chimney! 🫨

Many birds can mimic electronic sounds, I had one living in a tree near my place that would mimic a phone alarm, the different sounds they can make the more likely they are to get a mate, as it’s the female that chooses the male bird.

I imagine it’s because of the high overtones. It creates just a few sine waves, which nowadays reminds people of digital noise. It also reminds people of old instruments that only made one note and its overtones.

It's actually incredible the unique sounds animals make, yet when we try to recreate the sounds of animals that no longer exist they're always the typical roar or squawk. Yet we have birds like this that don't even squawk, they sound closer to a fire alarm than they do a bird. Could we ever have known this if this bird didn't exist and all we had were fossils?

A lot of it is lost to time, but there are some accurate recreations of sounds using recreations of vocal cords and respiratory systems! A lot of the sounds of prehistoric animals you see are generic foley work done by film producers.
