I really like the commentary on Otacon's storyline. As someone who got into the series heavily pre--MGS4, there was kind of a hope that E.E. was going to be a big shatter point for Otacon. His sister's death at the hands of Vamp, the big trauma stuff, there was a sense that it was building to something. I was a very big fan of the character in my younger days.
And then early character designs leaked for MGS4 and he was this very shadowy mysterious figure, you got this sense that he had been galvanized into something else.
And then the game dropped and uh. Yeah. So its a storyline that feels VERY gratuitous in hindsight, and was compounded by MGS4-5. And I think its kinda Kojima at his worst? Both in lack of growth and casual violence against women and uh...Peeing.
