That's 110% a badger. You can see the facial markings, and badgers live in Texas. That's definitely an American badger.
When I first moved to south TX about twenty years ago I saw a badger just sitting upright along a busy road taking in the scenery. I was so excited; I had never, ever seen an actual badger in the wild. A few weeks later and about fifty miles away from the first, I saw another. Just sitting upright by the roadside taking in the scenery.
I have not seen any since. Same for jaguarundis. We would see them fairly regularly out on the ranch but none for at least fifteen years now.
@@jaguarsky55 I'm from Scotland originally, where European badgers are a very common sight (pestilential for farmers but i do enjoy seeing them) but I've lived in/ spent time in North Carolina, Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico, and I've seen American badgers in the western states, that's definitely what this picture is. When you've grown up seeing European badgers in the garden, they're ready to recognize. I belive the American flavor is bigger, meaner, and has slightly different facial markings, but that's absolutely with no doubt a badger.
@@jaguarsky55
Yeah, jaguarundis used to be all over the southern U.S.
Along with jaguars and ocelots.
It looks similar to a badger, but there isn't enough variation between the white and dark fur, and the animal looks larger than a badger.
It’s 110% a Wolverine. Literally the same color and facial markings as the first picture of a wolverine you can find online😂 dark brown fur with black around its eyes and pretty big as well
That is a Badger. I’m surprised Forrest doesn’t know that considering he guessed Wolverine in Texas
forrest knows jack about animals he's just a lab nerd
Badger all day not uncommon
Correct. That’s a badger.
@@lucasfff1370 He knows a lot more about animals than any of us, it's just that he didn't analyze the photo thoroughly.
It's also possible that he wasn't familiar with badgers being present in the Rio Grande, believe it or not people usually associate badgers as being more northern species than being near the equator.
Short note, experts do make mistakes sometimes.
Reply made: 11:22 PM Thursday, April 20 2023
Nope. Straight up chupacabra. 😂
Why didn't Forrest go from wolverine to badger? I'm stunned he missed this one. Just goes to show you no matter how much of an expert someone is they can always be wrong.
I think so too, but to be fair the scale of the picture is hard to discern and my first glance made me think it was a much larger animal than the American Badger. The facial markings seem pretty clear though on closer look.
I’m not convinced it’s not a badger.
@@tylertheurer9122 The only problem with that is he settled on Jaguarundi which is about the same size if not smaller than a badger 🤷🏽♀️
@@wesleywlee me either. I'd sayi pregnant wolverine all day. But who am I. 🤷♀️
That’s an American badger.
Their the European badger’s roided out, pissed off cousin.
Fun fact: Despite their name, they aren’t related to the old-world badgers at all. They are part of their own distinct subfamily within Mustelidae.
All due respect for you Forrest, you are an idol of mine. That’s a badger.
I saw a badger in Synder, Tx ten years ago by the Brazos. He was carrying 2.4 million dollars in a briefcase, and being chased by Anton Chigurh.
To me it looks like a badger, you can almost see markings on it's face too
*Wolverine
@@NeuKrofta we don’t have wolverines in tx
@Hagen Houck still doesn't have badger markings, they have white on their face and have stripes more like a thylacine. The pic looks more like a wolverine hence the mystery.
badger was my 1st thought also
@@NeuKrofta so confident yet so wrong. it was confimred a badger. and you obviously have never seen a badger
Thylacine!
- Neil Waters
Lol
It kinda looks like a Bush Dog but probably gonna agree with everyone else and say it's probably just an American Badger
That was my first thought too
I agree
I was thinking bush dog as well
I'm a zoo keeper and I thought bush dog first too
It does look a lot like a bush dog but it seems in the photo that it has a longer tail so I don’t know
I’m from the rio grande valley! It’s cool to hear it being recognized from you guys. Love the pod and the shows 🙏🏽
Well, have you heard anything about it yet?
@@donwayne1357 nope people are saying badger or jaguarandi, but I’ve seen cougars, bobcats, and so much more. so who knows it’s all wooded area for the most part so a lot can be hiding
@@treydelacruz836 You won't belive what I just heard. Will you excuse me while I dapple my lolipop witht the latex.
Thats a jaguarundi... I work at the port of brownsville and have seen those many times late at night. Many times I have gotten real good looks at them.
@@boogiehed Beware the Illinois Enema Bandit.
Someone give this poor man a shirt😢
We already have one Bert Kreischer...No need for two...
I’ve seen enough badgers on trail cams to know damn well that’s a badger
Hey I am from the Rio Grande Valley. I live in the middle of no where and there is this dude in my neighborhood that has an ostrich and tiger. It got wild when one morning I saw a kangaroo running around down here.
I'm super confused why this is such a debate, it's clearly a badger.
I just love the fact that in 2020 I lost any hope for real monsters or anything mysterious existing.
Now I'm just expecting zoologist's to freak out and get excited over a new species of ant while I sit in my corner of stupidity and depression.
First thought was Wolverine too.
Badger, one used to live in a berm at the shooting range at the Thompsons Hunting Lodge!
It looks a little bit like a Sun Bear (without any size reference), but an American Badger would probably make more sense.
Pablo's Hippo made an amazing journey!
Hey! I live in the Rio Grande Valley!😃 Bentsen State park is like 15 minutes from me. Jaguarundi were supposedly extinct here in this part
Not true... I see them all the time at the port of brownsville
@@boogiehed thats nice, have you read up on them? There are supposed to be fewer than 150 in Texas so its nice to hear that more are being seen
Hey!!!!! We have a wallaby population here in Brazoria County because someone released a bunch.
'Sniffs in Elegant Disdain' That is clearly a hippopotamus.
I thought hippo the whole time.
End up being a Hippo and Texas just got a new Apex Predator
I’m thinking it could be a giant river otter but I can’t see the tail very well
I saw something weird cross the road on a ranch in south Texas went up and looked in the culvert where I saw it and was face to face with a jaguarundi. Pretty cool deal
I'd go with Tayra (Eira barbara) there native range isn't Texas but there native range does go upto central Mexico, so not impossible one or two have gone more north than typical.
It’s a badger we got some on our ranch in Texas
when you say Jaguarundi I head Stevo from Jackass saying "this is a jaguarundi and these are our Jaguar Undies"
I know that most think it’s a badger, but to me it sure looks like a river otter!
My first thought was a honey badger they are just a super badass animal
Seems like a bush dog to me. Small stocky legs. Kinda gives of the hippo vibes in a blurry picture.
Picture got me thinking a Honey Badger...
Everyone beat me to it, but if the hypothetical gun was to my head I would blurt out American Badger without hesitation.
Badger for sure. I have seen them in Missouri.
“I lOVe AniMaL MysterRY 😫😫😫😫😫😤😤”
maybe a jacarundi....in the 80 s my brother came off deer stand near barksdale which is north of uvalde describing animals that we could not figure out...after going to library he had watched two jacarundu s sunning on flat rocks....more in mexico but do come into texas
i think its an escaped tanuki, its very short with stubby legs, has the ey patches and meets the leg requirements
Could be but it seems to have a bigger snout tho
Dumb question, I’m 41, back in my early teens.
My parents had a lake house on Lake Limestone near Jewett, Texas.
My dad was taking me to Limestone Marina to do some Crappie, and Bass fishing, and we happen to see a cross between a armadillo, rabbit, mixed with something else (very weird), and yes we were 100% sober.
Of course this was in the mid 90’s, before cellphone cameras, and videos were a option.
I like to think we are somewhat knowledgeable, we’ve owned a 2,000 acre ranch near the Trinity river bottoms in southeast Texas where big foots are claimed to be, which our land would make perfect place to hide out at, and after 10 years of zero evidence, and about 50 game cams, I think these guys claiming this are just staging crap to get views.
I almost forgot that evening my dad, and I saw that cross bread Armadilla/rabbit, we had to go into Waco for some supplies, and heading back around 1 PM.
We happen to see a jet black panther in broad daylight, which I thought was the most bizarre sighting I had ever seen in my entire early adult hood.
Which that has nothing to do with what my original question was, but I thought it was pretty cool, so I thought I’d share it. that the show.
What are the chances/odds/percentages something like a Armadilla, and a rabbit producing what I had saw that day? That was my damn question by the way anyways thanks. Again ratio
Badger I live in Texas and called it as soon as I saw it
I still find it wild that there are more privately owned tigers in texas than there are in the wild😂
Can't believe Forest didn't think of a fosa.
My money is definitely on it being a fosa.
I think the pic is definitely distorted due to the animal's motion......would be nice to get a size reference
From the screen shot . It looks likes one of Pablo's hippos
I thought American Badger when I saw the photo
My bad. That was me, I had a bit too much to drink that night....
💯 % an American Badger. Judging by the body shape ANDDDD, badgers usually have a spotted head and eye 👁 markings
Looks more like a badger to me
Snake plant Forest? Id expect somethin a lil more wild from you. 😂😂
Bro threw me off he was like there a gun to your head ! What is it tell me ! 😮
Looks like either a badger, Tanuki or a Wolverine
I still say it's a bush dog. I don't know how it would get into Texas though, unless it was an exotic pet that was turned loose.
Wow!! Now I know what it is I have been seeing in Arkansas in the ozarks all this time!! I have seen them cross the roads and they are so skiddish they always run off before I can get pictures. I guess everyone always called them panthers here!
I'm talking about the jaguarundis not the honey badger looking thing
guy in the grey shirts is off his head🤣 sniff sniff
I know other people have said it but i guessed badger as well.
A Giant Badger maybe 🤫 ..GD Video!!💚😉
I thought American Badger tbh
A lot of people seem to think badger, but the muzzle looks substantially thicker than a badger, coloring aside.
Jesus, this is a Badger. All these "professionals" and they can't even identify a common Badger.
Funny animal man
a baby hippo DEFINITIVE!
Maybe one of El Chapo's cocaine hippos? 😂
I'd say you're making a mountain out of a molehill but you're making a monster out of a blurry picture of a possum
I think it might be an American badger
I'm thinking melenistic badger.
As someone else said, it's a badger.
Looks like a badger to me!!
It looks like an American Badger
Chupacabra. Obviously.
😂
i think Forrest night be right, the animal looks shorter than it is in the pic but the ground seems to be lower where the animal is standing, i actually had never heard of a jaguarundi before, but if you look at the picture a bit more that animal is standing about 6 inches lower than the ground you think its at.
That forehead tho!😂
Damn. Everything is better in Texas. Even creatures that show up.
Badger for sure
My guess is the tale is doubling back over the body in the image, causing it to look rounder in the torso with shorter legs
Manbearpig for sure
Honey Badger? Abnormally large one??
Wolverine would be my second guess.
Honey badger has more color variation, so no
@@NeuKrofta bro doesnt know what an american bager looks like
@@NeuKrofta it’s a still photo at night, in black and white, how can you possibly what the color variation is? Lmfao smh
@@salineaddict9850 the coloring of a badger is black and white. Google is your friend
@@NeuKrofta okay, you are obviously a troll. Get a life, seriously you are pathetic.
Are we sure it’s not a chupacabra or a hornless Jackalope
looks kind of like a bairds tapir to me
its quite obviously Manbearpig! im super cereal guys!
Yes, badger
I would say jaguarundi or maybe a coatimundi with the lighter fur under the neck & what could possibly be a small white ear? you can't see much of the tail or the snout in the photo though
Looks like a Blackbear standing in mud making it appear to have short legs.
That's a hippopotamus
lol he was so off.
Looks like a Capybara.
Looks like a capybara to me
That’s a Texan Midgepotamus
This is why I video instead of take pictures on game camera.
For sure a tanuki
Badger
Bro-ducer got a new mic 🎙😎
It's two hogs! 🤣
I’m going with badger
100% a badger my guy
It looks like a Badger.
Could be a Bush dog, but probably a badger.
It's in fact an American Badger, take a closer look at the head, there's a dark stripe running down the side of its head with white to the left and right of it.
The tail is large and thick and the feet are stubby which they use to dig.
When I first saw the photo I instantly knew it was an American Badger.

Sable are expensive!
Bros the type of friend that has 1 alcoholic beverage and takes his shirt off
Just confirmed: it’s an American Badger
