    Hello, this is Algae.
As you stroll through the park around you, you can see the pine cones that have fallen under the pine trees.
Suddenly, I am curious about pine cones.
A pine cone is the fruit of a pine tree, so if I plant a pine cone, won't a pine tree grow?
So I decided to pick up some pine cones that had fallen to the ground and try to germinate them.
Will the pine tree grow well?
I hope this video will give you pleasure.
    Have a nice day :)
    Thank you.

Success! For Christmas my kids got Korean pine cones with nuts inside and I planted a few seeds. One has germinated and is now about the size of a finger! I hope it will be able to overwinter here. I googled, in parts of North Korea, for example, the temperatures are very close to ours in South-eastern Siberia. However, even though our area is not arid, it is fully forested, five-needle pines included, Korea still gets much more rainfall.

      Hello This is Algae.
Thank you for sharing the good news with me :)
I am very happy that you have finally succeeded in obtaining Korean pine seedlings.
I hope you take good care of the sprouts you got hard so that they can grow healthy.
If you have a chance, I recommend making a bonsai.
Enjoying pine trees indoors also brings its own pleasure.
However, keep in mind that pine trees that have become bonsai are difficult to have a chance to reproduce.
      Have a good day :)

I planted a sapling of a blue spruce tree that was about an inch tall must have been in the 80s and now it's over 30 ft tall and growing. Unfortunately I'm 70 and it won't have cones until it's about 80 years old and some fool will have chopped it down by then I'm sure. I love it there are so many varieties of birds in it that make it home from sparrows to Mockingbirds Robbins morning Birds they all share this tree it's wonderful I have a 30 year old Senegal who is addicted to pine nuts he has to have them in the Shell but the shells have to be soft enough so we can open them only lately there's a shortage in there too expensive I can't afford it. My other birds of special needs Cockatiels and they are not strong enough to break open nuts. But my Senegal has to have pine nuts in the Shell as I said I just can't get them here and he asks for them every night it's so sad period so what I do is trying harvest the round pine cones as the long ones are too much sap in them for birds into a birds that is Siri I get those in different sizes small for the small birds and large for the large birds medium for the medium birds etc it's even hard to find those that are untainted by some sort of pollution as I live on the Atlantic coast

Congratulations on adding a new family to your garden.
It seems to be common in Korea to have similar experiences as you.

Well thank you, how to tell the right time for pinecone to have the mature seeds, right before they open or before they fall of the tree? I found some that were still closed, are they not ready untill they open up? Thank you, i have been wandering how to start a pine from seed.

    • @Algae_algae
      @Algae_algae  Год назад +3

      Hello, this is Algae.
Thank you for leaving a nice question :)
Most of the pine species that are natively or artificially planted in Korea open pine cones when the seeds mature.
If a pine cone falls from a tree branch while the seed is not mature, the pine cone dries out without opening.
Occasionally, the pine cones are closed even when the seeds have matured, but it is common for the pine cones containing mature seeds to open.
My concern is that I don't know what characteristics the pine species you are targeting has.
For some pine species, the pine cones only change from green to brown or black, but the appearance changes between closed and open states are modest.
Please be aware of this fact.
      Have a good day :)

I keep a Siberian stone pine (pinus cembra sibirica) at home, but take it to the balcony for winter. I grew it from a nut from a cone that I picked up in a park. I also bought nuts of the Korean pine (pinus koraiensis), which is a very, very close species, to do the same thing, but they never germinated. I probably should have removed the shell from the nuts, or they were too old.

Thanks to you, I got to know a new pine species.
Did the seeds of Siberian stone pine (pinus cembra sibirica) germinate well?
I also have experience germinating the seeds of Korean pine (pinus koraiensis).
At that time, I made a small crack in the shell of the seed, and some of the cracked seeds germinated.
I will upload a video about pine nut (Korean pine, pinus koraiensis) when the video is edited.

@@Algae_algae Hi! 😃 Yes, the nuts germinated very well. All 4 planted seeds germinated in about a week, maybe two weeks, don't remember now. I had just gathered them from a park and carefully removed the shell for better germination. These trees grow slowly, especially when young, but they grow 30 meters tall. This is a photo of the two Siberian pines in our city I picked up the cones from. They are around 40 years old, grandmother told me. semiczvet.ru/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/PB-bust-3.jpg

      @dmitrimikrioukov5935 Год назад +1

@@Moni_892 Hi! The Siberian pine can tolerate above 30 degrees for some time in summer, but the most important is that they need dormancy (like "sleep") in winter, which includes temperatures below 0 or at least close to that, maybe plus 5. In Siberia in winter the average January temperature is minus 20. Without dormancy the tree will gradually grow sick and die over a few years. However, there is a similar-looking subtropical species called pinus Armandii from China, which is often grown ornamentally. But even that needs relatively cool temperatures in winter, as far as I know, probably below plus 10. There are some fully tropical pines, but I know very little about them. Google "tropical pine species". 😃

    소나무 키울 때 햇빛도 필요한가요?

    • @Algae_algae
      @Algae_algae  2 года назад +1

      안녕하세요 Algae입니다.

      Hello this is Algae.
Thank you for the interesting question :)
Just water enough to keep the soil adequately wet.
Depending on the temperature and humidity, the rate at which soil moisture evaporates varies, and the frequency and amount of watering vary depending on the season.
Be sure to water so that the seeds are not exposed to dryness.

      Hello, this is Algae.
Thank you for leaving a nice question :)
I applied low-temperature treatment to the pine cones.

In Korea, various species of pine trees grow naturally or are planted in nature and gardens.
So I am well aware that different species of pine trees have different pine cone sizes.
Even if your pine cones are small, they may be the best pine cones for that pine species.

      Hello this is Algae.
Thank you for leaving an interesting question :)
Are the cones you collected a native species to the Evergreen state?
If a species is adapted to an outdoor environment, it will survive.
There are a large number of pine and coniferous species, each with a different temperature range to which they can adapt.
If you collect cones from where you live, they may already be adapted to your area.
I hope your seedlings survive this winter safely.

Is it 100% success in any environmental condition

    • @Algae_algae
      @Algae_algae  Год назад

      Hello, this is Algae.
Thank you for leaving a nice question :)
      I can not guarantee 100%.
I've never seen a 100% guarantee of germination rate among products released by large companies that produce seeds.
However, the best you can do is to collect good quality seeds and stratify them for a certain period of time at an appropriate temperature.
Furthermore, it is desirable to stably germinate the seeds you prepared at room temperature (about 25℃).
If you do everything you can, your chances of success will increase.
      Have a good day :)

      Hello this is Algae.
Thanks for the good question :)
If you are trying to germinate pine seeds in the fall, I recommend that you keep the seeds or pine cones in the refrigerator (4℃) for 1-2 months before trying them.
If you're trying in late winter or spring, I recommend planting straight into pots.
      Have a good day :)

What is the best time of the year to try and sprout a pine tree?

    • @Algae_algae
      @Algae_algae  Год назад +1

      Hello, this is Algae.
Thank you for leaving a nice question :)
I recommend that you collect the pine cones or pine seeds in the fall, winter and early spring.
If sufficiently mature pine cones or seeds are to be collected in the fall, I recommend low-temperature treatment for them in a refrigerator at 4℃ for 1-2 months or longer.
If you collect pine cones in winter or early spring, make sure that mature seeds remain inside the pine cones.
Most of the seeds are released from the pine cone after maturity.
Keep this in mind when collecting the seeds in winter or early spring.
Once you have successfully prepared the seeds, you can plant them at any time.
You can plant seeds anytime indoors where a room temperature (around 25℃) is maintained.
On the other hand, if you are planting seeds outdoors, I recommend planting them in spring or early summer.
I hope your questions have been resolved.
      Have a good day :)

      Hello, this is Algae.
Thank you for leaving a nice question :)
      It doesn't matter what season.
However, if the pine cones have matured well and have gone through one winter, the seeds will be ready to germinate.
I recommend collecting pine cones in late winter and early spring.
      Have a good day :)

      Hello This is Algae.
I don't know what pine species purple pine refers to.
However, only the seeds of Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis) are eaten in Korea.

      Hello, this is Algae.
Thank you for watching my video :)
And I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused to you by the insufficient part of my video.
Because my motion is very slow, it seems that the video was shown in slow motion even though I increased the speed of the video.
And there was a comment I wanted to convey, so I added the repeated action to the video.
I will use your advice as a reference and show the improvement in my new video.
      Have a good day :)
