I'm glad you clarified at the end this is a backpacking setup. And I see a comment/response regarding the stove. I do not dare show this to my wife as she is a Michigsn snow bunny and has been looking for yurt's to rent. Great subject and thanks for sharing!
For what you'd spend on a yurt for say a week you can purchase the combo tent, stove, and stove pipe. But I get it, but also it's hard to pack up a yurt unless you have alpacas or sherpas.
I love the winter and the idea of camping in it, especially here on the Wasatch Front. I just have to build up the gear to make it possible. Awesome video.
If you come across any tips on how to let the heat last longer in those ultralight stoves, you should do a video on it. I wish the heat lasted longer when going to bed, but you either have to stoke up the fire really strong and it gets unbearably hot, or the heat fizzles out in 15 minutes. I know traditional stoves have all that thermal mass so I've thought about piling stones underneath or on top but I don't think it would work very well. Let me know if you have any ideas.

A hot tent isn't going to stay hot all night, it isn't made to. It's made to get warm and out of the cold/snow, get into bed warm and have the proper sleep system to keep you warm through the night. To get a stove beefy enough that would radiate heat for even 4 hours after the fire died you'd prob be looking at over 20lbs, not very back pack friendly. The rock idea isn't a bad one at all, rocks will hold heat well and the bigger they are the better they radiate, I'd try on the ground before on top though just incase.
I wanted to love my Luxe tent, but sadly after day four the sidwall ripped(normal cond).Company did nothing, said I set it up wrong? Look for ripstop fabric, not the 68d polyester they use and a Company that stands behind their product.

For my solo trips I usually use the Minipeak XL.....but the space of the octopeak has got to be nice I really like Luxe products. I have had very good luck with mine
Run back a ways through my channel and I’ve got an older video that shows this. But the stove pipe rolls length wise when it’s put in use on the stove. In storage, you roll the pipe on the short side. So it’s pretty small.

Trying to decide between the Minipeak XL or waiting for the Octopeak. Do you think 2 people could chill in helinox chairs with a stove in the Minipeak XL...of course without a sleeping pad being set up.
I bought a luxe tent and I was very disappointed. All the stakes bent easily on first time use. Straps broke on first set up also. Would be so bad if they didn't charge ridiculous amounts of money. Just some cheap Chinese tent I could have got for half the price without the luxe name. But love your video. Love that wood stove. I have a winnerwell nomad and it is very heavy.
Tub floor just helps contain things a little better and I've found with this setup, it keeps it a bit cleaner inside. It also helps it not move around as much. But I've used just a tyvek floor plenty of times.
Ok, please don't judge me, but I have a random question: if you're hot tent camping solo & you suddenly have to drop a load, do you dig a cat hole right there in your tent? I mean, you're just gonna cover it up when you fill the hole back in, right? I haven't had this problem yet, but I'm the queen of tummy troubles, so I'm kind of thinking about how I'd handle it. Anybody want to comment? Have any of you had to deal with this before? Am I gross for even considering it? (Please be kind).
Not as weird as you might think. But no I wouldn’t ever poop in a hole in my tent. I’d suggest carrying a couple wag bags and use those if you’re unwilling to leave your tent.

For this trip I was just over 32 pounds. The stove is about 4 pounds, the tent 3 pounds and the tools/accessories are another 2-3 pounds. So yes, it’s heavier, but not doing big miles.

How tall or long is your stove pipe? I've got a 9 foot rollable stove pipe which is a total pain. I'm thinking of cutting it in half to 4.5 feet tall. Add ten inches to that for the height of the stove and I'm thinking it will be tall enough and provide enough clearance for a tipi tent. What are your thoughts?
It’s pretty safe. Still recommended to have a carbon monoxide detector with you. These stoves don’t burn for very long since the firebox is so small. So it’s better to just have a proper sleep system for the weather and get the sleep you need and let the stove burn out, and just start it again in the morning.
- I just watched a review of a Pomoly stove and this man burnt two approximately 3 inch diameter pieces of oak that wasn't split. They were pieces of a full diameter branch, it might have been a small saplings trunk. He had the flu damper turned down quite a bit and the front air intake was cut to about 2/3 or slightly less. He put them on a bed of broken down coals that glowed brightly but had no flames. Those 2 pieces kept that tent warm for 8 hours. When he woke up it was still going. Are you sure you were burning the wood efeciently? Whole, unsplit wood definitely burns way longer. I had something written here that I took away. I edited it out. My eyes are out of focus because I'm tired and old. I was wrong, it said most of your wood was split. I think I better go to bed.
What a cozy setup. It would be fun to stay in that a few days in the snow.

Not trying to be a wise guy. But if you have the right sleeping gear. You really shouldn't need a fire while your sleeping.
a pot of water on top could do it, water has a ton of thermal mass.

lots of room. I wish I had bought that instead of the Megahorn. I like the Megahorn, but I think I would like that one better.
To put into your pack, the Octopeak wins. I like the vertical height on the Megahorn more, but for a solo user the Octopeak is pretty amazing.

1-2 hours. So much depends on the type of wood and size. Yes, big difference in temperature.

Your pipe should be at least 12”-18” above the peak of the tent. So whatever tent you have, just cut your pipe so it’s 12”-18” taller.

It breaks down flat and the chimney pipe rolls into a nice tight roll that packs into the bag. So it's really easy to pack into your backpack.
You need a full body hot water bottle... Keeps you warm for 8 hours
