I'm interested in seeing the final stages. the beginning is so straightforward, I would like to see how the painting gets so polished. The Ingres like finish to all the rendering is what separates this from other similar paintings. Thanks for posting.
is there a specific name for these types of characters within pop surrealism. Richard j oliver does similar work with his characters and I find it fascinating how you know it's cartoonist but there's realism in the facial area
Yes. Sadly it is because she got the credit for the "idea". But I guess the best form of admiration is imitation. Unfortunately Mark has 11.9K watching him perform magic and Lady Gaga has millions of admirers believing she's so creative. Gives me a bad taste in my mouth...or maybe I just don't like her. I also find it strange to support the meat supply trade by buying up all the meat in NYC to wear a nasty fly ridden dress made out of it to make a statement about cruelty to animals in the meat supply trade and not to support it.
I went to the Paul Kasmin gallery when this was showing and when I saw this paining when I first walked in it LITERALLY brought me to tears. It's a massive, incredible piece. Mark Ryden is a true artistic genious, and anyone who can't see that is a moron.
@Neshuah1 If Elvis and the Beatles had videos uploaded of them last year, it shouldn't mean it was made last year, only that the event has already been done for it to be on video. No hating here, but I think the point of the guy/girl you're talking to is that if the Lady Gaga meatdress was worn in September, then MR couldn't have been inspired by her wearing it to the event because this video was uploaded on April, which comes before September.

its litterally pouring fucking rain outside, my 2 year old son is asleep in my bed next to me, i forgot all my art supplies in my car, i parked down the street, and watching this seriously motivated me to not give a fuck an go get my supplies. I work for lowrider tattoo and this literally motivated me to work that much harder on my drawings; 2be different cuz all our shops an artists are black an grey portrait artists and u make color so easy looking an the soft nuetral colors an tones R perfect
i saw an art exebition in early 2000 in sweden (cant remember if the artist was swedish or not) with alot of clothing made out of meat (the big piece was a beautiful meat dress) so its nothing new. Maybe gaga should rely on her own muse instead of trying to rip from others and passing it of as her own. If she indeed did.
why compare a musician to a visual artist? Ryden does in fact recycle imagery over and over. His home is full of artifacts of a age gone by and these are his inspiration. I think Lady Gaga's persona and fashion sense is original, but her music is just canned commercial pop.

It wasn't really a full time lapse because towards the end it was just fast forwarded to the completed painting. Didn't show much of the detail work.

Actually no. This painting was produced years before lady's meat dress, a few other of her outfits have been inspired by mark rydens work.
