I think you guys look so nice, just, not like some horse people who are so sure they know everything, you just look very polite, I love that! Thanks so much for all your video's, they're so helpful :D.
Thanks Sam. Sewing with needle and thread is good for both thick and thin manes and holds really well. Yarn braiding is a little easier with a thinner mane but not necessarily any better. My personal favorite is yarn braiding - its faster and looks great at the big shows. I use sewn in braids for the showjumping and also the jogs at CIC's and CCI's. Thanks again so much for watching and your feedback
the types of braids they show can still be done with a longer thicker mane, but the longer/thicker it is the more braids you will have, which is why short manes are ideal
braiding is like a french or dutch braid and takes other pieces of hair into the braid as you work downwards and plating is the three pieces with no extra hair added
When Jimmie puts the needle and thread in her mouth to switch hands hahaha! Had a good giggle! Sounded so funny! Love your videos guys! All of them are BY FAR the best and most informative videos on RUclips. Absolutely love them!
Great video! Have yet to find someone with one that has made it clear and obvious to do it, especially for a newbie like me. Always look forward to your videos!
The pony club get us to fold the end of the plait/braid and secure it so that the ends don't poke out and make it look messy. It's actually really a really good trick but doesn't work that well with thread 😊
sometimes trimming off fly aways can create more fly aways so, if you are having this struggle, I suggest hair gel of hair spray 😊 it really keeps everything together and tidy
Hey there, my Welsh pony has a short fluffy and somewhat light mane, its naturally like that so its all different lengths, what type of braiding/plaiting would you suggest for her type of mane? (Hopefully that makes sense :))
My horse has a chestnut main but it's starting to turn grey because she's in her 20's .+her hair is really thick so were would you get nice and thick rubber bands
My guy has a super thick mane (it's cut short right now for summer because we don't show yet) and it gets really long too. Should I thin it/pull it, or leave it as is and just use less mane per braid?
Ginger Robson Depending on how long it is, the length can interfere with how the braids end up looking. If you are going to show, pull/thin it because it makes the braiding easier in the long run
this is awesome!!! but when you show English do you need to do anything with an Arabians mane or do you leave it long? Thanks! I love your videos! I subed!
what i would do is look in the rule book of the show you are going to or what I do is I look at the manes of the horses at the Scottsdale Arabian horseshow
any tips for plaiting/braiding your horses mane for a show when they have rubbed it nd theres a gap???help please,I have a show in 3 weeks and i really want to plait for it but with the gap i cant😢 any tips welcomed xx
I have also found using egg whites is great for horses manes which are hard to plait I.e if it is fluffy like my sisters showing pony which I have to plait :)
for ideal braiding, youd need to pull it (unless its thin!! then trim!!) until its the length of your pulling comb (bout 4") especially if youre a Hunter like me... my horse tells me when hes tired of me pulling
What if your horses mane is extremely long? Do you just do the same thing..? Or is there another way you have to do these? Joe's mane literally almost falls past his neck
***** I honestly can't stand pulling my horses mane, and this would only be for the fun of it, and I don't want to ruin his mane.. I'll most likely end up doing other braids, like the ones you recommended
ShatteredCrystals there is a way you can braid long manes into these buns by knotting it twice. There should be a tutorial somewhere here on youtube....
Easily the best braiding tutorial video. Nicely done!
Awwwww! He called her baby :3 They're so cute together :)
I think he might've said Baylee
+Liliana Graves I don't even know... 😂 brain fart I guess:p
"It's called plaiting" THANK YOU DOM
YES! I love this one! I've been trying to clean up my braiding, and this is by far the best video I've come across! Thank you!
She’s a great teacher I love all of your videos keep it up guys! ❤️
I think you guys look so nice, just, not like some horse people who are so sure they know everything, you just look very polite, I love that! Thanks so much for all your video's, they're so helpful :D.
It's called plaiting in the UK too.
I was thinking that
MissingYourSmile yeah that's were im from
MissingYourSmile yeah. We have platting in Australia and whenever I go to Hawaii they call it platting
Thanks Sam. Sewing with needle and thread is good for both thick and thin manes and holds really well. Yarn braiding is a little easier with a thinner mane but not necessarily any better. If your horse has a long mane and you don't want to pull it, you can do a running or a diamond braid :)
the types of braids they show can still be done with a longer thicker mane, but the longer/thicker it is the more braids you will have, which is why short manes are ideal
You can't at a show..you'll get eliminated or similar..
WhinnyTheHorse Not with a running braid! There's an Andalusian horse which always uses a running braid in dressage (:
horsesarelife03 that's what I do for my horse, and I think it looks a lot better.
horsesarelife03 thanks. That helped me a lot! :)
In Australia braiding and plaiting are actually different things
I know!! I'm also Aussie
what is the difference?
braiding is like a french or dutch braid and takes other pieces of hair into the braid as you work downwards and plating is the three pieces with no extra hair added
Is it true that Aussies call both fries and crisps chips?
yes thats true, we call 'fries' hot chips or chips, and 'crisps' we call chips
So extremely helpful! Best, most explanatory braiding video!
I had never heard of braiding with a needle and threadm but it looks absolutly amazing and so neat with it!
When Jimmie puts the needle and thread in her mouth to switch hands hahaha! Had a good giggle! Sounded so funny! Love your videos guys! All of them are BY FAR the best and most informative videos on RUclips. Absolutely love them!
Awesome video! My braiding is always awful and this is the best video I've come across on the subject
Great video! Have yet to find someone with one that has made it clear and obvious to do it, especially for a newbie like me. Always look forward to your videos!
I liked the bloopers!!
Thanks so much for this great video! My braids looked pretty awesome at today's dressage show thanks to you.
i look forward to your videos every week! they're very helpful. :)
They should do a video of how to take these braids out :D I can never do it right hehe
Its called plaiting in Ireland too, i think its just america/ canada who call it braiding
@KH - 09ZZ 734366 Humberview SS same
I love watching like the mess ups there so funny you should put together a video of just them.
relationship goals
Julia Lohr
I was thinking that too
your horse is so clean!!
This is super helpful, I will definitely be referencing it in the future!!
Thanks so much
Please bring back your videos!! We want more :)
The pony club get us to fold the end of the plait/braid and secure it so that the ends don't poke out and make it look messy. It's actually really a really good trick but doesn't work that well with thread 😊
I'm an equestrian that doesn't know how to braid
Artsy Pony same😂😂😂😂😂
omg love your queen profile pic
lol same, human hair or horse hair. I just learned how to braid my own hair xD
Love Southern Stars!
Pov: RUclips recommends this after 8 years 😳
I live in England and I call it plait
Could you do a video of plaiting a horses tail. That always confuses me
Awesome hope you got something from it
in the uk it is also called plaiting
do rubber band braid hold better, or do the needle and thread ones stay in longer?
Tip. Put bands on/ around your little finger while plaiting down. Turn end of plait back on itself to give neat tidy end.
I live in scotland an i call it plaiting too!
I live in ireland and I call it plaiting aswell 🐎🐴
I live in Australia and call it plaiting
I live in England and I call it plaiting too!
America .....braiding
This was great! It made sense!!!!!
sometimes trimming off fly aways can create more fly aways so, if you are having this struggle, I suggest hair gel of hair spray 😊 it really keeps everything together and tidy
I second that! I was just thinking that I needed to brush up on my braiding skills :P!
What about flat hunter braids? Those all looked great but more like dressage braids......very pretty though!
Hey there, my Welsh pony has a short fluffy and somewhat light mane, its naturally like that so its all different lengths, what type of braiding/plaiting would you suggest for her type of mane? (Hopefully that makes sense :))
Geez Dom so passive aggressive 😂😂😂
Super helpful!!!
The forelock braid/plait is simply a french braid :) You can finish off in many different ways.
Could you guys do a video on training a horse to jump?
Just wanted to say, the two of you are really cute together!
My horse has a chestnut main but it's starting to turn grey because she's in her 20's .+her hair is really thick so were would you get nice and thick rubber bands
Zoe The Pony use loom bands
How do you take out the sawn in braids?
Egg yolk is also good if you want to wet the mane because then it will be easier
I wouldn't use egg yolk....maybe egg whites but not the yolk
My guy has a super thick mane (it's cut short right now for summer because we don't show yet) and it gets really long too. Should I thin it/pull it, or leave it as is and just use less mane per braid?
Ginger Robson Depending on how long it is, the length can interfere with how the braids end up looking. If you are going to show, pull/thin it because it makes the braiding easier in the long run
Use a running braid, is way easier than all these braids, and looks really good once you've done it a few times
When you pull a horses main does it make it thicker?
this is awesome!!! but when you show English do you need to do anything with an Arabians mane or do you leave it long? Thanks! I love your videos! I subed!
Depends on if youre in the Hunter and/or Jumper ring. most Hunters want the mane to be 4" long
what i would do is look in the rule book of the show you are going to or what I do is I look at the manes of the horses at the Scottsdale Arabian horseshow
Ok Thanks! :)
I would love to do this but my horse has a long mane but I should do it on my other horses but their very sensitive round there necks :/
How do you take the thread braid out tho
I always Pro Plaits when I'm plaiting my horse's mane and tail.
thanks
any tips for plaiting/braiding your horses mane for a show when they have rubbed it nd theres a gap???help please,I have a show in 3 weeks and i really want to plait for it but with the gap i cant😢 any tips welcomed xx
How long can you leave this in???
not as long as 24 hours I think, or just google.
In England we say plaiting ie: french plait
Tip: use a darning needle! They have blunt tips and will not poke your horse :-)
can you make a braids that was your last one please
Is there a specific type of rubber band that you have to use on a horse's mane?
No you can use loom bands etc and type of rubber bands
Ok. thank you
Funny because one of the horses I lease is owned by a couple named jimmy and dawn Schram. His name is Dallas (the horse)
We call it plaiting in NZ
Now i'm just wondering how to get those out...
Macayla Hamilton cut them
Ohhh ok thanks :D
im the one to go through and seperate the hair before braiding cause i have to make things difficult
Where can I get one of those aprons or belts?
MegaNatasha13 smartpak
Or Dover Saddlery
I've never braided but my mom came up to me last night and said, you're braiding Fergie! For my sister....
I have also found using egg whites is great for horses manes which are hard to plait I.e if it is fluffy like my sisters showing pony which I have to plait :)
I love button braids, I could do them all day..! But my horse has *such* a thick mane...
Why don't you just pull his mane
because its so beautiful *~*
Same I do a stallion's braid because I feel way to bad to pull it😂
you made the siz o wiz video so you should not lose your sizzors
nice
Where's the one for forelocks?
my horse has very long manes....
Running braid :)
hannahspup73 OH MY GOSH i LOVE running braids! their so pretty, and they're really fun to make
for ideal braiding, youd need to pull it (unless its thin!! then trim!!) until its the length of your pulling comb (bout 4")
especially if youre a Hunter like me... my horse tells me when hes tired of me pulling
tbhorselover1 That is true and I totally agree with it but it sometimes depends on the breed of the horse (Fresians have long manes)
Equi Megan another breed that has a long mane that is supposed to be there is a gypsy vanner
Plaiting
What if your horses mane is extremely long? Do you just do the same thing..?
Or is there another way you have to do these?
Joe's mane literally almost falls past his neck
I would do a running braid :)
Do a running braid and then fold the end in half and connect it to the braid I suggest using yarn or sewing as bands won't be strong enough
ShatteredCrystals not really I find it easy its tecnicly plats
Does anyone remember what song it is that they use in the intro? 😂
Noah Gullion - Meant To Live
Come back! I need help on how to not be sooooo bad😂😩
Always use a blunt or plastic needle for safety.
Hehe I'm Australian and didn't know what people mean when they braid? But I know now from American riders! :)
Are they both Australian?
I think Dom is a Aussie and jimmie is American
It’s called a rug hook. A crochet hook is different.
My old trainer's horse was named Dom lol!
WHOOO! :D
To Adam I can I do that. To Bella's mane. And. Tail on Thursday
does anybody call the first plait a rose bud or is it just me??
An australian!
I swear I heard their intro on the radio. I just can’t remember the nammmme
Her husband is from Australia obviously by his accent
"For our friends in the Southern Hemisphere"? Last time I checked Britain was in the northern hemisphere, and we call it plaiting.
Is don Aussie if so go the Aussies lol :3 subbed :3
I pronounce it like plate, am I wrong or just ... American? lol
DOM thank you!!!!!!! OH AND JIMMY`, losing your siccors, you need a Sizs o Wiz
Pretty sure her husband is from Australia...
Nice vid. But, it is most definitely NOT a crochet hook, it is called a LATCH HOOK. :)
I braid my horse differently than all of these
But this is america...
There all the same things
doli :(
