    ANA is an airline in Japan headquartered in Shiodome area of Tokyo operating domestic and international flights with more than 20,000 employees. Also operates ANA Wings, Air Nippon, Air Do, and Allex Cargo. Became a member of Star Alliance in October of 1999. Named a five star airline by Skytrax on March 29th of 2013.
    Began as Japan Helicopter and Aeroplane Transports Company founded in December 27th, 1952, AKA Nippon Helicopter. NH began services in 1953 and operated its first cargo flight between Osaka and Tokyo as the first scheduled flight by a Japanese pilot in postwar Japan. Passenger service began on February 1st, 1954. In December on 1957 NH changed its name to ANA.
    ANA grew through the 60’s, introducing jets in 1965 and became Japan’s largest domestic airline network by 1974. JAL had a monopoly on international flights until 1986 and then ANA was allowed to operate international charter flights. ANA added 6 L-1011’s to its fleet in 1971. Introduced 747-200’s in 1976, and 767’s in 1983.
    In 1986, ANA began expanded into the international market with flights from Tokyo to Guam, followed by flights to LA and DC and gradually increasing its network to include Beijing, Dalian, Hong Kong, Sydney, London, Saipan, Paris, New York, and Singapore.
    Current livery is the Triton Blue with a white and grey fuselage and a blue stripe under the windows. The “Inspiration of Japan” slogan painted on top of the windows. The vertical stabilizer is blue with ANA painted sideways.

    ANA has also operated a large number of special liveries including six in the Star Alliance livery, five Pokeman jets, three Flying Honu A380’s and four Star Wars themed jets: 787-9 R2-D2, 777-300ER in BB-8, and 777-200ER in the C-3PO, and a 767 in the mixed livery.
    JA789A BB-8 was delivered in 2010 and retired March 31st, 2022 and was operating the Narita to Chicago route.
