- Aerondight is one of the best silver swords in the Witcher 3 Blood and Wine. To earn the Aerondight sword, you must embody the five chivalric virtues: Compassion, Generosity, Honor, Valor, and Wisdom. Earning the Aerondight also grants "The Embodiment of the Five Virtues" Trophy/Achievement.

I never understood why sparing the shaelmar is compationate. Your basically condemning it to further torture in the arena.

I chose to kill the Shaelmar. Geralt even said “Its suffered enough” when i chose that option. That seems to be more compassionate ending its suffering.

It is shown the guards kill it afterwards still. Also you get a virtue for it.
There's also iocaste and retrieving the locket of the landlady's lover.

I got the sword from my first attempt because I was playing as a good person. Helped everyone and showed mercy to any monsters when given the option.
Honestly I completed all the virtues without even knowing about it, guess the secret is to be nice and perceptive

HEYNOW , when I received the Aerondight , i went back too the heart of stone merchant and enchanted this silver sword and added three sockets = became a GOD !!! thanx 4 posting

This and the Olgierd sword are pretty good combination imo. Both have special abilities unlike any other sword(not counting that rusty grave digger cause its damage is pretty low)

Truly God's sword. I got it during my first playthrough and im still using it against lvl 80 enemies on my second playthrough.

I started Blood and Wine but before I could do a single story mission, I just roamed around the entire map and cleared all side quests and contracts and all. I had the Aerondite sword during the first mission of Blood and Wine story but now that I look back, I did a lot of things differently than what you've mentioned, and I still have the sword (I just got it 10 mins ago BTW). I suppose there are other ways to proving those 5 virtues than the one's mentioned in the video.
For those who have problem with proving compassion(if you failed to do the things mentioned in the video):
There's a quest in Blood and Wine DLC called "Mutual of Beauclair's Wild Kingdom"
It's about a beast who has killed some folks. At the end of the quest there's a group of warriors who want to kill it and they ask you to cooperate with them. But remember to spare the beast instead of killing it. After that there's a man who gives you some coin(he throws the coin to you) . But after that he still wants to give you some more. This time you need to refuse more payment.

I got the wisdom virtue from the gwent tournament where your handicapped to play the newly added skellige deck (as i havent gotten the virtue from the quests the video shows). I flawlessly beat the tournament without failing once and i saw a quest update popping up stating i can now speak to the hermit.
Very unexpected but also very cool, if you havent done it and you still need to provide a wisdom virtue, here it is.
There are other ways like correctly guessing where "the beast of toussaint" will strike next

i got this sword doing the Wandering in the dark Main Campaign mission, when u get the amulet that you can go through illusion doors, i found a secret area right behind a wall as soon as u get the amulet
Same here but mine is level 3 and doesn't seem to increase damage
so for the wisdom part if you missed the ones in this video do a knights tales. it is a very easy quest to do. when you get to the witch ask for her help in removeing the curse not to hard.
Currently playing this expansion and I just started the quest to enter the tourny and I have made all other choices needed in 4 of the quests. Just gotta defeat hermit then. Thanks for the video.

I'd like to mention that during the main quest "where children toil, toys waist away" there's the kid that cleans shoes. When he asks for a payment, pay him 500 crowns and it will complete the generosity virtue. Sure it is a bit but it's cheaper than buying the self portrait 👍👍

I finished the dlc without doing this and then went to talk to the hermit afterwards, thus acquiring the mission "there can only be one" and I noticed that all the virtues had been checked meaning I had all of them completed. the problem is that I could not actually talk to him to get the dialogue so I can fight him and take the sword, Just does not happen

I failed the Honor part of the quest, and I didn't have a save going back before I failed. So I started a new game+ just to get this sword. So, I should have it in about 45-70 hours of gameplay from now XD
You know, I was delighted when I saw Aerondight had a comeback in W3. It was really disappointing to see it being a rather weak sword in W2 that is quickly outclassed.
Just picked the complete addition for 14.99, this is my first witcher game after watching the show, and damn i was missing out!! Lol

Aerondight is not a metaphorical or alternate universe version of Excalibur, its Sir Lancelot's sword, and is (presumably) literally the same one as the one from our universe. The Witcher franchise exists within the same multiverse as the Arthurian legends, the Lady of the Lake is simply a multi dimensional being who can appear in either one. Ciri actually meets Sir Galahad in the books while dimension hoping.
As the Lady of the Lake is Sir Lancelot's adopted mother she naturally gives him a magical sword very similar to Excalibur.
If you want to try and establish a consistent MO for the Lady of the Lake it seems that she gives Excalibur to Kings as a sign of her approval, while Aerondight is reserved for people like Lancelot and Geralt, wandering warriors of peerless skill and virtue.
You can get the sword in lvl 5 in the " wander in the dark" Main quest you do witk Kear Metz, It will come out as a lvl 2 sword but its stil very good up to lvl 10 + it gives u a 1% xp buff upon killing monsters and humans so as long as you kill every enemy you see u will lvl pretty fast

Got Aerondight without going through lady of the lake. Found in chest behind illusionary wall when getting the lamp with Kiera. Level 6 when I got it.

I beat this game a few years ago and never even knew about this sword.... Feels like a missed out badly and need to replay it again
I was just wandering around the map when I saw something interesting on the map en went to it without knowing about it, I just found the hermit and he said that I did all the 5 chivalric virtues without knowing about this sword I just fought the hermit and got the sword did not know I had to do more stuff for it, found out that it is a hard quest I did without knowing about the quest, I am apparently just a nice guy playing the game so that was a nice surprise.(sorry about the broken English)
Best thing is I just started the main quest from Blood and wine so I will have a OP sword the whole DLC

When I visited the hermit he immediately started fighting me after the dialogue because I'd already completed the requirements and he said he sensed I was honourable or moral or something. He didn't even broach the subject of 'trials'

Just had to check youtube that the sword i just picked up was infact this one,
Honest to god in the caves you run through with keira metz and do the quest a magic lamp, theres a wall you can break through right around where you kill the guy from the wild hunt, follow that dispel an illiusion to keep going further jump into the water and in one the two places tou can swim to theres just a loot box sat there with aerondight inside it, i just full on tripped tf out when i saw it

You have to play the main game first for some time, until the blood and wine quest shows up

for the cold feet one it works as just defeating the beast. i told him to go on the suicide mission before finding this quest and when i arrived at the lake i already had valor
You can also show valor by defeating Maestro in Raging Wolf a side quest which can be unlocked by side quest Fist of Fury Defeat all three champions and you will unlock it
