I purchased a Hoosier cabinet in the mid 70s. Why they got rid of this wonderful kitchen item I'll never know. It holds all my baking pans.. 27 lbs of flour..all Pyrex bowls for mixing or baking..all spices..all flavorings on a turntable I added..measuring cups & spoons.. drawer for silverware..a drawer for Jello..drawer for bread. Which is metal and mouse proof..a 4-piece canister set on top. A complete baking centre. The metal surface is good for rolling pie dough..in summer I use it with an old folded sheet, ready for hot canning jars from water bath or pressure cooker. They cool there. One of the best purchases we ever made.
I have an avocado colored Kitchen aid stand mixer from the 70's. You can't kill that thing. It has metal gears and is heavy as hell. I love it! I'm going to will it to my son😂😂
That KitchenAid will last forever . It has to be used though. The newer ones are nowhere near the quality of your year of make. They went downhill after 1990. After that the were a dime a dozen. I'm glad that you're holding on to it, you will never find a better mixer.
I inherited my mother's mid 1980's almond one in 2000. Thing is built like a tank. Thought we had lost the original wire wisk attachment, bought a new one then found the original. BIG difference, old one is much thicker metal and just more robust.
I’d love a Hoosier Cabinet and have always been attracted to the pastel colored and old style appliances I would definitely love still. I’ve never heard of a California Cooler, but that is definitely a fun piece. I’d love to put together a retro kitchen, but with all the modern conveniences of safe wiring and plumbing.
Can we bring linoleum back? But in classy looks. I can't think of a more practical type flooring. In fact i don't see why it can't have a look for the entire house, if designed attractively.
We put linoleum in the kids' bathroom a few years ago. It looks great, is cheap, and is easy to clean. There are still parents who make their children do chores. This not only teaches children responsibility but also how to take care of themselves. Too many kids go off on their own and have no idea how to take care of themselves.
Well, I bought a condo 7 years ago and pretty much gutted it. My new kitchen cabinets are white, I have sheet vinyl in my kitchen (would have gladly had linoleum if available) and my counter top is formica and my appliances are white.. Looks fine to me. If the next owner wants stainless steel and wants the kitchen to look like the back of a MacDonald's restaurant, have at it.
Yes. All that were shown were hand held sifters all the while he's talking about built in sifters. Not the same thing. LOVE the chrome dinettes and we had a green set when I was growing up.
I have always DETESTED "Electric Coil Stoves"! I grew up with them. The coils would always stop working properly: I remember we had only ONE fully functioning coil, ONE that worked on one side, ONE that worked around the rim, and ONE the only the center part worked! At least we had variety😅. It kept happening with each replacement stove too. In addition, they look HIDEOUS. 😮
I agreed until one of my flat top burners stopped working and I found out the cost to fix it. The coils were at least relatively cheap and easy to change.
Central vacuums are not a thing of the past, they are still a big thing, it’s the central vac that has the power, the convenience, the ease of use, the filtration, the low noise etc etc It’s easier to have the 30ft hose instead of dragging a vacuum behind you, they are lighter as all you have is the floor head/ power head, extension tube and handle weight in your hand not a heavy hard to push upright, their filtration is so much better as they see exhausted outside so your not blowing allergens and bacteria etc back into your room from a normal vacuum exhaust, the noise level is all out in the garage or basement or a cupboard so while your vacuuming all you hear is the airflow and if using it the sound of the powerhead not a loud vacuum motor, you only need to empty a central vac once or twice a year, they maintain their suction and airflow, they have double/ triple the power of a normal upright, canister vacuum for deeper more hygienic cleaning method, the exhaust air flow is away from The room your vacuuming so it’s not dislodging or blowing loose dust around that’s just going to settle back down on furniture and carpets etc etc. The list goes on
@19:05 you are talking about central vacuum systems in homes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries! I think not! You mean late 20th and early 21st centuries!
Actually, central vacuum systems were available in the early 1900s. Glensheen mansion in Duluth, Minnesota (built between 1905-1909) had a central vacuum system. I saw it on a tour of the mansion several years ago. ☺️
Why were washers or laundry room in the or off the kitchen? 95% of laundry comes from the bedroom/bathroom. I’m building a house and the laundry room is going off my master bath/closet.

Can I go on? Nope. I have things from the 1800's! And they all still work! TY to my parents. ❤❤

Absolutely love the bowl sinks...to this day!
My bio dad was a milkman when first married.
❤️
New idea for an old fixture! A "milk door" used for delivery of packages! Let's do that!
Linoleum is awesome! Love my 70's!

Very Welcomed
I have a Hoosier cabinet with the flour sifter in perfect condition. I use it every day!
I have a Sellers Brand Hoosier cabinet made in 1920. I love kitchens with early 20 century style.
❤️
So do i

Those mushroom canisters were my Wedding present! Miss them. Good memory for sure. 😊
I made some of them in a ceramics class in the mid-1970's.
My grandma's kitchen in the 70s was Harvest Gold 😊❤ 💛 she also had a salad shooter!
Dreadfully
@TheGoldenAgeofAmerica LOL, she hated it, 🤣 she told me it was the only color they had besides the green.
@@Girl_In_The_Forest92-2 The avocado green was hideous. My parents had the Harvest Gold.
Everyone had formica counter tops and linolium floors - they were great.
I have a sky blue bathroom in our older trailer. I refuse to remove anything in it. If I can't get something to match it, I'll not replace it.
The built in flour sifters ought to have shown Hoosiers. The images were all of hand held sifters. 😂
Sorry I will pay attention to it

We had coppertone stove, fridge, washer, dryer
We had that green floor when I was a kid.

My Grandfather’s house still used a wood burning stove!

There were only hand sifters. Die-nette set. The people of Indiana are angry now at your pronunciation of Hoosier

Wow. ONLY criticisms. Interesting.😒
I think they'll get over it. 😉🫢@@l.5832

Hopefully with the current trend to sustainability, California coolers will be revived!
2nd laundry will be upstairs for the bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs with laundry shoots that are vacuumed to the laundry room.
♥️

California coolers were often designed the same way as a chimney, just without the masonry, they were a fire hazard…
Really😬

Sponge dabbed painted walls 😂

Enjoyed the video with an exception of that irritating bell sound sprinkled throughout. Please remove that. It makes me not want to watch your videos
