I don’t understand your reasoning behind things though. I don’t have a soap dish in my shower to make it look more vintage I have one in my shower because when we redid our shower my boyfriends uncle who owned the house wanted somewhere to put his bar of soap. Same with my boyfriend now. I don’t have a “stand alone medicine cabinet” or above the toilet take shelf to be vintage I have them due to the small space in my bathroom and needing storage
My grandmother had a purple tub and toilet. I think the people who moved in after she passed ripped it out
I worked at Sears 1990-1994. They were more interested in MA's..... extended warranties, than customer service
Good fun 🎉🎉🎉
Industries want them to be obsolete because if they are still made people will buy them. Manufacturers don't want to tighten a single screw, they want to sell something unreal that they call virtual, you can see but you can't touch it.
Poor kids of this new generation, they can't do anything because everything will be considered wrong for them. The right thing now is for boys to be girls and girls to be boys. Will be banned from being born.
Omg I have a razor blade disposal slot in my military housing and just realized it.
There were also outdoor fire places where people burned their trash.
I grew up in a lathe n plaster home with a sleeping porch and a dutch door..❤
I remember having an Intercom in our house in the ‘70’s. I thought it was soooo cool.
Funny that they claim the Dutch door fostered community. At the time opening your door to someone was seen as a literal invitation to enter your home, and you would be obligated to treat your guest to coffee or a meal. The Dutch door was a way to see what your nosy neighbor wanted, without having to let them in.
Bring back the blt burger
Christmas has just changed. It’s very boomer to act like it’s gone just because it’s different.
My church does caroling groups to elderly or shut-ins in the community.
Fruitcake was a given at our home. When we were in our 20s, mom bought fruitcake made by monks. OMG! It was so good! I'm pretty sure the Brandy it had soaked in had something to do with it. LOL
We hated putting tinsel on the tree. It was our job to do that. Imagine our dismay when we learned that we had to put it back in the package it came in!
When my twin and I were little, we lived in Germany. St. Nicholas and his grumpies would come to our house every year. We didn't like that much. We would pull our great-great grandmother out of her room so we had someone to cling to. LOL
There are silver Christmas trees sold in stores.
I grew up in a home that had most of these Features "A Georgian beauty" with 14 rooms , dumb waiters, front dutch door, ball and claw tubs, butlers pantry , grand fireplaces , mahogany wood beams , maids quarters , ball room complete with a player piano, crystal chandlers, slot doors into the dining room, a grand sweeping staircase and it was also haunted as hell.!!!..........its been 50+ yrs but, I still on occasion walk through my now demolished childhood home in dreams 😓 I still miss it so.........
Never seen a milk door😮 Only a milk man
Sleeping porches Witch windows uh no swamp coolers lol nope
It would have been nice to have more pictures of the actual artifacts, and not the modern versions of them. California Coolers did not serve as 'air conditioners', they actually added to the humidity of a home, which didn't decrease the heat. Washstands had nothing to do with a uptick in 'cleanliness', people have used pitchers and basins for centuries to wash up, all over the world. The milk doors were not refrigerated, they didn't 'store' milk in them, that's where the dairyman placed the bottles until the housewife removed them to the icebox. And the icebox wasn't filled thru an outside wall. The outside box was used to store the ice until the homeowner carried it into the house and put it into the fridge, thru a door in the top of the unit.
We had a coal shoot in our old house, built in 1915. Many people my age, (40's) wish houses had laundry shoots still
my sister had the speak and spell.. kerplunk!! paper fortune letterls!! i remember all of these things.
Christmas is for Christians. Get rid of it, and get the hell out of politics! Get real people, this is the 21st century!
My daughter lives in a house that is over 100 years old. It has a milk door.
The white community also loves Christmas cards I think every one does I miss caroling
I disagree that our lifestyles are evolving, personally l think we are devolving in the way we live. We no longer have grace and personality in our homes. We no longer live in Homes we now exist in square boxes.
Thumbnail portrays a door to the Other World. History can keep those, I certainly don't want one.
Are you sure he wants it?
Chutes. It's laundry Chutes not shoots. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Still have carpeting in two bathrooms....hate it.
Then remove it.
Some still do lazy susans
We had a Door Scraper (Or Boot Scraper) in the house I grew up in, it was a little cast iron hunting dog and the scraper edge was it's back. Sadly my Grandfather wanted it back with I was about 15 so my dad got a hedgehog boot brush instead. Not the same, too modern looking
Should of added cupolas to the list, my mother's house has one!
I grew up in old houses with porcelain tile floors in the bathrooms and kitchens. We also had claw foot tubs, pedestal sinks and either built-in linen closets or linen closets in the hallway. I sure do miss all that. A friend of mine also renovated his 4 story main bathroom by putting hot water pipes under the floor that he then retiled as it had been with penny tiles.
GEE, Biden, your hair smells terrific! E.T. Got home with a speak & spell. I have seen pet rocks working for Walmart! I now see what happened to their marbles! I still have my pyramid tinfoil hat! The balls were originall glass in clackers. My 81' turbvo trans am had an 8track, it was heck getting it out. We threw lawn darts AT each other! We have TONS of Mexican Jumping Beans in the USA now!
Harris 2024.
Sleeping on a water bed while very pregnant, was bliss. Especially for someone who sleeps on their belly, like me.
No need to be sentimental; many of the fixtures/technologies of the past shown were so problematic we're all better off now. RIP to gas lighting (explosions & gas leaks)knob & tube electrical wiring (incredible fire hazard), etc., etc.,
Penny tiles seem like a waste of pennies!
The current occupancy of the White House likes to sniff people and their hair. (FJB)
The lemon twist followed a simular to with a bell in the mid 60s.
Pet rock is kinda stupid idea.
So were a lot of other things then and now.
@@glennso47 Yup!😁
My pet rock taught me how to love and trust again.
@@davidmitchell6873 Did it talk to you? 😳
On the electric stove at 7:07, glass-top stoves still use electric resistance heating, just like the coil stoves. The big difference is the resistance coils are under the glass top. These under-glass elements are a hot-mess to change-out, too. Another thing, I have a sifter--they are still sold and don't need a "comeback," as they never left. Central vacuums are still a thing; even new Class A RVs have them. Formica countertops are still a thing, as well, and make kitchen refreshes much cheaper than replacing 10K worth of stone countertops when one gets tired of the current kitchen decor.
I remember many of these essentials from the past as I’ve always liked older houses, however, have you ever wondered how many times you said “have you ever wondered?,” in the making of this video?? 🤦🏼♀️
My first house was built in 1892. It had many of these features. And at least one friendly ghost.
I lived in very old houses I knew all of them
Also, Miller's Outpost, The Wherehouse, Tower Records, Thrifty Drugs, Party World, to name a few.
We had a milk door, a fold down ironing board, louvered cabinet doors, a wall mounted can opener, a built in match holder, a pull out bread board, a breakfast room with the dinette set, linoleum floor and when we remodeled the kitchen we had lazy Susan corner shelves. The counter tops were replaced with Corian. Before my time there was an icebox. This was in the house I grew up in.
With Knob and Tube wiring, the wires weren't "bare copper wires", they were insulated.
That is not a ‘Built In’ flour sifter! It’s a hand held! The ‘Dinette Set’ Never was in a Dining Room, they were strictly Kitchen sets!
