Love coming back to this video. I too cherish the few obscure finds from my home above all others. They tell a story life b4 us. Thank you for suggesting we all go back to ur old videos. I've seen them all but always a great rewatch.
Every once in a while I like to come back to watch this first video I saw of Alex and those authentic awkward moments when she does this round up. I can remember thinking how this girl was being so tough on herself over something that has probably happened to alot of people. Though the way she was showing her vulnerable side with that brutal honesty really touched me and I wanted her to go back down the hill and find some even better bottles. Well we all know how this story is going and I'm sure her and her mom have become the favorite Mudlarkers for alot of us. It just makes me smile . If you go from this day to the day in the field of dreams when Gale finds the moss agate and listen to how much fun they are having its so cool. You have to laugh right along with Alex.
So refreshing to watch a video without being yelled at, or ordered to 'Like' before you've seen anything. It is well produced, and I hope you make many more. Thanks!
Aawwww, you're adorable! There's hope for humanity seeing a genuinely enthusiastic girl with dirt under her nails. Looking forward to the gold panning. Fun hobby, there.
I’m looking back at your early videos and found this. Great finds. I kept thinking about the lovely ferns wanting to transplant them to a spot they could keep growing in. As an ardent fan of your channel you have come a long way and just get better every time you do a video.
I am 67 now, but when I was a younger boy, my Dad didn't like to rent or homes. So we moved into abandoned homes. We had up to 10 kids, his hers and theirs. Dad was a logger, so we lived in remote places. They always had a place where the trash was piled, usually over a bank. No rubbish pickup in those days. Us kids always used to dig in them to find what other threw away in the past. I still love to look into a rubbish tip. Thanks for the memories. I subscribe and love your channel. If I were only 50 years younger and in Scotland, it wouldn't make a difference, but I love the craftiness of you and your Mother. Again Thankyou.
Not ruined Miss Alex you can make beads out of them. Or glue them back and just display for history purposes. Don't apologize for the long video I didn't want it to end. Your such a lovely young lady and I love watching you and your Mum in your videos. I'm hooked!
I really enjoy watching your videos. The range of things yyou look for and find and the hisstory behind some is so interesting, I love it. Thank you ladies so much for taking me along with you !, Robbie Marcantel Pride, La.
To clean the inside of bottles - especially small ones a great tip i have used that works for antiques is to use denture effervescent cleaner and just warm water. The dirt will rise to the top and you can dump it out.
Another trick is to add 1-2 tablespoons of uncooked rice, half fill with warm water and a drop of dish soap. Cap and shake. The rice acts as an abrasive. It is amazing what it will take off.
You can glue the glass bottles back together and look at it like the Japanese do. They see a mended piece of art as a something even better than the original.
We went back to look at your first video this morning. You are so cute and your enthusiasm is infectious 😊. No wonder you channel is so successful Alex!
So glad you were in my feed this morning. Sharing with my hubby on what you will be showing your viewers: gold panning, beach combing, metal detecting, etc. - these are all of my fav hobbies, along with fiber crafts. You then held up the garnets and I said "looky there, she has a vial of garnets just like yours!" He laughed and said, "is their name White?" (My English kin). Laughing, I said "don't know, but she found a White's sewing machine base." I think I just found my kindred spirits😻
Love your channel! I too live in an old farmhouse (Wisconsin, USA) and dig in my old dumping area. Finding whole bottles is my favorite! I use them inside for vases and a colorful display on window sills. The cast iron object with the wheel you found in the beginning is from an old treadle sewing machine. The smaller plain glass bottles are from medicine for cattle or veterinary use. They would have had a really small opening and a type of cork that you could poke a syringe or needle into for vaccinations. I also find those. You and your Mother have many years of fun larking together! Right at home, explore your house history! Enjoy! ❤️
Thank you very much Cindy! Its great fun finding old bottles isn't it? I think we found one or two of those medicine bottles, there are many modern ones too sitting all over the farm next door. Mum suggested the iron part may be a part of a sewing machine and I think you are right. We have found a lot of history on our house and we may do another update video explaining what we found! Thank you again, best wishes, Gail & Alex :)
@@NorthernMudlarks Can't be anything but a sewing machine table's right foot. You see the hole in the middle of the foot's bottom, as one of the footpedals two bearings, then the flywheel, where the connecting rod from the pedal was fixed to create the rotating movement, and at 4:12 you clearly see the smaller wheel with the groove, where the thin round leather belt was running to drive the sewing machine's driving wheel.
The two of you should have your own cable show you are better than anything on cable but then again it would end up being scripted and ruined...love your show keep em coming 💚💜💚
Yes, I still have a glass Christmas tree garland from my Nanny exactly like that! Multicoloured with some beads still stuck together. I’m in my 60’s now, so they’re quite old.
Those garlands must have been so beautiful! I have thousands of beautiful glass beads, although they are modern beads that I have for jewelry making. I think that I'll make a garland for my sister's tree!
You are naturally talented at making You Tube films. I find that some people are never any good at this, because they have annoying speech behaviours and/or mannerisms. In contrast, you are naturally interesting, and a brilliant commentator. No "ums" or "er's", no repetition etc etc. I am in love with your voice. - It is so gentle, feminine & happy, and your speech is a delight to listen to. I daresay your Mum is probably also beautifully spoken, which is probably where you get it from! ;) BTW, I hope I'm not venturing into dodgy territory, but where is your Dad in all this? Keep making the films, and you will undoubtedly build a huge following in time. Well done!
Your toy car is a 1940’s style car.☺️I just wanted to say that you are absolutely precious Alex, don’t ever change. You remind me a lot of my daughter.☺️
Regarding the "Farmer's Wife" cap, my great-grandmother (who never threw anything away) used small bottles like that one as proto "sippy cups" for her toddler kids and grandkids by poking a hole in the lid and putting a straw in it. She re-used the same ones over and over -- and still had several of those in her kitchen when I would visit her in the early 1970's. (Incidentally, though she lived in Illinois most of her life, her parents were from Scotland. Wouldn't it be wild if they lived in your house? Highly unlikely... but fun to think about!)
I think also why they pierced the lid was to let the trapped air out so it would be easier to undo. I know some of the screw lids were a pig to open sometimes.
🙂 Your property is beautiful and searching for antique items within it's space is due for good content. Your little Friends 😍 are so cute and fun to watch‼️ Thanks for creating and sharing this content.

My second video of yours and I'm really enjoying it. I've just moved back to Canada after living on the east coast of Fife. I grew up in Vancouver BC and my brother and I found a very old dump nearby of when Vancouver was first built. We found loads of opium pipes and Chinese pottery which was quite interesting to us. So much fun. I enjoyed seeing the car and toy gun quite a bit. I have also broken antique bottles with boiling water when I already knew better. A bit gutting. Thank you for the video.
I loved your first video. It let us know you do make mistakes just like the rest of us. I love your giggle. I’m living vicariously through you two. I’m too old to be climbing in and out of places so I watch you do it.
Started watching again during the shutdown... enjoying the bits l missed. Like the Schwoo's mustache!😂 Take your broken glass& chuck it in the Sea! I'll be there to pick it up SOMEDAY!!!💖
Just discovered your channel and I think you're amazing ,love stuff that gets unearthed after god knows how many years , fascinating.watching from the very beginning 🙂♥️
All part of learning. Broken bottles ,badly cleaned coins ect. You not make the same mistake again. Glue the bottles back together. There for your memories anyway and they'll still be stunning. Truly love your videos. Please keep sharing.

Oh my gosh, Alex! You are my spirit animal! Ha! I can't tell you how much I enjoyed watching you both dig for treasure and the reveal at the end. You are so adorable and I can't wait to follow your channel. I am in love with beachcombing and mudlarking and seaglass and crystals etc... I will take inspiration from you for my channel coming in 2020! Keep these awesome videos coming please. We do not have the long history or the amazing seaglass here in the states so I am thrilled that you have started this channel!! Best Wishes!
It is a shame your bottles got broken. I love watching to see what you find! The next time I am in the UK I am going to go hunting for glass and crystals. Thanks for sharing!
My husband dug for bottles over 50 years,he's found old ones.were mostly collectors now but I would love to bottle hunt, most of this area has already been searched, every house had a private dump.if you could find a privy that's where most bottles were dumped,or under Apple trees,I have one down back which I plan to prob, this summer when the ground thaws.this house is like 150 years old so there must have been a dump,I was walking in the back yard and found a small blue poison bottle sticking out of the mud, small chip in top but I was so proud to find it.
Those pea hens are beautiful, I love seeing them. I must say this first video is darn good, you both must be naturals at it as your newest videos are fantastic.🥰I'm a little jealous of your backyard tip.🤤☺
Alex a gentle tip to wash inside your bottles is to use dry uncooked rice an warm soapy water give it a good ole shake😉 it's gentle an abrasive and works a treat.. Okay I binged watched 3 of your vids this morning while having coffee an I didn't want to stop lol but now I must do some work but I subbed so I will definitely be back to see more great content😊
Keep up the good work and you and Mom are precious together. Very nice to see spending time together. Looking forward to your future endeavors. Stay well.
There were in fact just plain marbles that looks like the cod marbles because I use to play with them in the 1970's and I also like that toy gun love coming to both of you lovely ladies from across the pond
A part of a White sewing machine. A very decorative item...after a good clean. Or with a little cleaning, a nice garden decoration. I love the old bottles you are not interested in, all have some value. You could clean them an sell them. A plus , most have lids
I love your Peahens, I bet you hand raised those Peahens. I hand raise birds all the time, I love them. I put them right beside my bed LOL you go through many newspapers for sure. I did have bunnies in my bedroom but there Constantly chewing up whatever they see. you must have lots of hardwood chew sticks for bunnies. It looks like 3:45 part of an old Sewing machine base. I would have loved to have been back in the wealthy part of the Victorian period. I love the style I love almost all of it. You can make your own Seaglass in a rock tumbler it takes a long time but you can do it. You guys should get with Nicola and Si finds and do a video together. That would be very cool. I love your cats The one in your home is just precious. But I'm a sucker for cats and kittens. I'm a sucker for all pets and Animals. LOL Be really careful about sticking your fingers in places you can't see BC you will find Razor blads and broken straight blades/knives.
Nicola loves those bottle stoppers, She knows what they go to. You guys would get along very well with Si and Nicola she loves broken dishes she uses the glass and such in her art.

That old sewing machine piece would look beautiful as a trellis in the garden. Hope you give an update on how you choose to enjoy it. 🌸
Yes, I was thinking the same thing... white sewing machine iron base, looks Victorian or early 1900. Beautiful in a flower garden.
I have and old ‘Whites’ sewing machine! Love the find ladies!
That is what I was going to say lol
Part of the treadle

Denise Mendenhall I use baking soda and vinegar. It has the same effect 🙂

What good ideas !!! I will have to try these ~ I use pipe cleaners to wash insides of tiny bottles !!
We call them Q-tips in the US - a little stick tipped with cotton on both ends. Great to clean out tiny things!
Cool idea
Wonderful Video, well edited too! Wow, digging for treasures at home! Very Cool!
You can glue the glass bottles back together and look at it like the Japanese do. They see a mended piece of art as a something even better than the original.
Yes, they often use gold leaf. An inexpensive type can be found at an art store.

The little blue glass beads would have gone to a glass Christmas tree garland. They came in many colors. Many were made of mercury glass.
I thought they looked like a bit of glass cane that was divided into bead sized pieces to be easily broken up and melted down for glass making

Just now seeing this video. Have I missed the search for the cellar?
Now that the have metal and glass straws they also sell cleaner brushes for them. You could use them to clean small bottles.
For your broken bottles... think Kintsugi. With your skills, I bet you could figure out how!
You are an inspiration.
I love your creativity!
The tiny glass beads are from old Christmas ornaments! Really enjoying your channel!
Nice one! Very engaging style you have, coupled with the finds, makes for a very enjoyable watch!

Okay I binged watched 3 of your vids this morning while having coffee an I didn't want to stop lol but now I must do some work but I subbed so I will definitely be back to see more great content😊
Alex, absolutely glue the bottles. They fit nicely together. The old flask is really neat.
Keep up the good work and you and Mom are precious together. Very nice to see spending time together. Looking forward to your future endeavors. Stay well.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you liked it! :D We do enjoy spending time together.
Super glue the bottles just to keep until you find a whole one again! You did so good! Love watching!
Love the bottles! So many treasures right outside your back door - that’s exciting!
I wish I knew where they list there stuff
I love that you and your mum are so close and I too
Love all the animals 💕👍
Enjoyable first video, very well done 🙂
Yay! Thank you so much!!! :D
Your home seems like a little piece of heaven! Love your videos. Looking forward to more.
There were in fact just plain marbles that looks like the cod marbles because I use to play with them in the 1970's and I also like that toy gun love coming to both of you lovely ladies from across the pond
You did great Alex good job
Hello from Florida! You’re a natural, Alex. Looking forward to more of your videos. Sounds like you have some great adventures planned!

You don't need to apologize, you are doing a great job and are just beautiful; keep it up, very interesting.
Nicola loves those bottle stoppers, She knows what they go to. You guys would get along very well with Si and Nicola she loves broken dishes she uses the glass and such in her art.
