Great video again! In Kyokushin we have deadly fast kicks, as everyone knows, and hell yeah they are Powerful 🙌 So Karate kicks works and works Perfectly ! OSS!!
The thing with the snap back is that people think the point you are aiming for is e.g. the head. But the target is BEHIND the head! You are aiming to go through it.
I have a 2nd dan in tang soo do and I've trained three years of Muay Thai. The kicks are different in the ways you mention, there is a reason for each, and you just have to know when to throw them. Start with competition scoring. Karate awards points, which favors fast kicks. Muay Thai scores damage and--what many people don't realize--balance. If you block a kick but get moved backwards, your opponent scores. This favors heavy kicks. Muay Thai allows catch&sweep techniques but they don't score too heavily. Sanda scores a takedown highly, and they use faster (karate-style) kicks that are harder to catch. You are right that you don't need much power to knock someone out to the head; fast kicks are fine there. If you are attacking the leg or body, a Muay Thai round kick does much more damage. A karate-style front kick hurts to the liver or stomach but a MT-style push kick off-balances and creates distance. Good karateka can kick hard, and good nak muay can kick fast. Learn both, and use them in context.
I studied about 400GB worth of footage of Karate tournaments, Taekwondo tournaments, real-life altercations, etc. I found that while the reverse punch to the face or liver scored the most knockouts/knockdowns, a back-leg roundhouse kick to the legs or head scored the second most. So, yeah, Karate's most fundamental "fighting" kick does work and I encourage everyone practice it diligently.
Very interesting. The only thing I can point out is that simplicity is more effective than complexity in a full contact fight. For example, connecting with the ball, if well timed and with enough accuracy would be devastating, far more than muay thai kicks. But it's too situational and the probability to land it is very low. Also, if the opponent has a high guard, a snapped kick won't do any damage, while a muay thai kick can disturb the opponent because of the high power. On the other hand, you gave some interesting pros in the video. Overall, I would say that it's better for a martial artist to know all those kicks to have more tools in different situations. But to be effective with more tools, you need a lot of experience. Maybe that's what makes muay thai fighters scary. Simplicity = easier to learn and practice makes it perfect. As a karate practitioner, you would need to reflect on every sparring to think about the kicks you used and what would have been better and what are the signs in-fight that could have led you to such a decision. It's far harder to become an expert with this fighting style.
For high level examples. Lyoto Machida was able to knockout Munoz in spite of using a retracting kick, and Mirko Cro Cop chambers his kicks to move past his opponent's block. Nice video, Nat 🥋
even if it isn't a karate kick that you do it would be dumb to leav your leg hanging out there after the attack even a jab and cross shld be brought back to defend after the attacking .

Hey Nat very good explanations! Just wanted to let u know I started training traditional Shotokan Karate at the beginning of last year when I joined a JKA club, it’s the best thing I’ve ever signed up for and watching your videos inspired me to start my martial arts journey. Moreover your flexibility program completely transformed my kicks allowing me to kick so much higher, harder and faster also my leg control and strength has greatly increased. Karate is definitely one of the most underrated and hated on martial arts and I think these kind of videos are a great way to educate people on how effective ‘the way of the empty hand’ is! An idea for a future video is explaining why in Karate we have a low, hands down guard because I hear this as a frequent criticism of our art.

As a muay thai practioner I use some karate kicks myself like the spinning back kick or the question mark kick. And even in my gym there's other people who use other karate kicks like the spinning back kicks, if it's useful than it's worth practice. Also I do the chamber position for kicks, not exactly how you showed in the video, but it's not like I just leave my leg "numb" and go full hip power (Btw I apologize if I made any grammar mistake but I'm not a native English speaker)

Right on with all this matt the legs are some of the strongest muscles the good thing with the snapping action coupled with the speed generates more power than a conventional punch plus you dont loose your composure or balance so you can follow up with another technique if necessary.
I will be always very envious of people kicking so well. On another note, I am frequently surprised by the negative (and non constructive) comments here. Maybe is my old age......
Mate, let me tell you now, it doesn’t matter about the art, it matters about you. You could be doing the perceived “worst” martial art out there, but if you take what works, spar regularly and have fun, you will do well. With that out of the way, I would recommend either art based on this: what do you want to be doing with your martial arts? Taekwondo is probably the best kicking martial art there is, they have the best kicks, the most precise kicks, the most variety of kicks and the most tricky kicks in the game. Taekwondo has power, it has speed, and it gives you incredible flexibility and plyometric power. Karate, on the other hand, gives you a bit of everything. You get some punches, some pretty good kicks, (depending on the school) some ground game and grappling, bit of everything. It’s arguably harder to master than taekwondo, purely due to the amount of techniques in it, but it can also manage a lot more situations than taekwondo. That being said, taekwondo’s kicks make karate kicks look like some idiot is just flailing his legs about wildly. It really depends, do you want to have perfect mastery of kicking and distance management, (basically become Sanji from one piece) or do you want to have a bit of everything but have a lot more to work on and a lot more to perfect? Hope this helps.

karate kicks have: flat of the foot, outside edge of the foot, inside edge of the foot, the heel, the toes which you could argue doesn't work and then the shins. And then as far as hands go we can use our knuckles, vertical fist, palm strikes, eye strikes, idk what it's called but it's like a knife hand strike wrist strike forearm strike, finger strikes and also those knuckles below the common ones used to punch idk what exactly they're called
the two knife hand/ridge hand strikes are called “shuto” (pinky side ridge hand) and “haito” (thumb side ridge hand), and the knuckle strike thing is called an ippon-ken (literally translates to “one-point weapon”) 😁
@@crisalcantara7671 “ippon” can be translated several ways (“one”, or “singular” for example, but also in sports to mean a score of “one point”) all depending on the context you use it in, just like the word “ken” can. traditionally, “ken” meant any sort of weapon, really, but most often it was used for swords (wakizashi, katana and larger) and daggers (tanto). and as such, much like you would do with a tanto, you use an ippon-ken to stab that one knuckle, or one point, in between ribs and on soft tissue. hence, i translate ippon-ken to one-point weapon 😁

@@KOVACHOTthat, and the fact it’s pretty easy to mess up the bones in the flat of your foot if you are kicking something boney. Not very fun to break your foot bones on someone’s elbows, I can say that much.
Wha about the blade of the foot as the point of contact for side kicks. I ha e trained it for years but still strike with the heel in sparring and tournaments.
I actually don't mind throwing kicks, I do get caught and swept every time but that's like 95% my fault; the only problem is i feel like if you have shoes on the kick is slower, and is easier to catch because of the added foot size. This isn't as related but it really sucks when you're playfighting and someone catches your leg because you have strike so slowly. It also gives the idea that kicks suck.
I think Karate kicks and there quick snaps are fast and unpredictable and have good enough power for effectiveness but Muy Thai kicks on average are slightly more powerful and tought but not as fast and unpredictable.

@@KOVACHOTthat, and the fact it’s pretty easy to mess up the bones in the flat of your foot if you are kicking something boney. Not very fun to break your foot bones on someone’s elbows, I can say that much.
@@owenwoolley3394 yuuup, unless your wonderboy and have feet of steal, he knocked someone out flat footed, lol
I want karate just like you 😢
I do kung fu I agree with what you say is karate as really good k8cks
Wha about the blade of the foot as the point of contact for side kicks. I ha e trained it for years but still strike with the heel in sparring and tournaments.
I actually don't mind throwing kicks, I do get caught and swept every time but that's like 95% my fault; the only problem is i feel like if you have shoes on the kick is slower, and is easier to catch because of the added foot size.
This isn't as related but it really sucks when you're playfighting and someone catches your leg because you have strike so slowly. It also gives the idea that kicks suck.
I guess u forgot net.. that I played with you at birmingham
What rank belt are u
He is black belt
Would you consider using teachable? Learning platform.
Yes it does, want proof go watch karate Kombat
Shotokan or Kiokushin?
early, thanks for the info.
You’re welcome💪
I think Karate kicks and there quick snaps are fast and unpredictable and have good enough power for effectiveness but Muy Thai kicks on average are slightly more powerful and tought but not as fast and unpredictable.
In karate, don't we use the instep?
Can use the instep yes, but there are multiple connection points to choose from
I am a black belt at 10 years old
nobody should get a black belt before 13 imo
Respect brother/sister
@@Thq-ff8wzhonestly stuff like shodans (which I assume are what this guy is) aren't rlly a big deal 'cuz these take like 3-4 years to get. It's more-less kinda realistic at 10
@@HunDev_PL most federations put a age limit on a full shodan grade normally they'll have a junior black belt or something
that's ridiculous
It always depends on the practitioner.
Yes it does👍
Really hard to find places that actually teaches Karate in my area, same with TKD.
where do you live ?
@@crisalcantara7671 I’m currently stationed in Antartica as a structural engineer
I love how he sits here talks about how the kicks work but doesn't spar at all
How do you know that he does not spar at all? Do you realize that these are tutorial videos?
@lucalevorato7577 I mean he did not spar in the video to prove they work and it was not a tutorial video it was a video showing that they work in which he only explains it and showed no proof
@@Oscar.358literally many videos of him sparring if you’d do two seconds of research lol
@@Oscar.358speaking absolute shit
@mee2ube no I saw them he spard with a boxer his couch and his little brother I do my research the only time he ever spard a martial artist which is not karate is the boxer which if u see he was going easy on nat and nat still got outskilled ik sparing is not fighting but it is clear his lack of sparing.
Love you❤
Karate is the best
what type of karate do you do ?
Shotokan👍
@@nathearn would you ever try out something different?
Are there different types of karate like how there are different types of kung fu
Yes
@@mee2ube how many are there
@@Maxfromohio2155 many but I would put into 3 main groupings of styles, Japanese sport point karate (shotokan etc), Japanese full contact sport karate (kyokushin) and Okinawan self defence karate (goju-ryu etc.)
@@rowan1494 ok
There are at least 15
karate is good
i know u like it
but
this is best martial art
mma > muay thai > kickboxing > karate or box > others
for grapling
jujitsu > judo or wrestling
facts bro like mma has to be best cos you can learn all of them
mma isn't a martial art, a lot of MMA a guys just practice their own combination of different martial arts.
depends on how you look at it
the person dictates which is good...bjj is overrated in my opinion and useless in the street, unless if you want to hop up fast as you can...you dont want to go to ground into the dog piss, shattered glass, pebbles etc...
MMA stands for "Mixed Martial Arts", it isn't its own martial art.
Video idea: Try learning Muay Thai
Try getting out of bed for the first time
