Spring Steam Train Southern Pacific 2472
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 сен 2024
- Springtime Steam! SP 2472 puts on a show in scenic Niles Canyon in the San Francisco Bay Area. Follow the train from the ground as it heads east from Niles to Sunol. Afterward, take a ride on board the train, once again traveling between Niles and Sunol. All aboard!
About the train:
Southern Pacific 2472 was built in 1921 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. It spent much of its time on the railroad in the Bay area, finally ending its career on the 1950's pulling commuter trains from San Francisco to San Jose. It was restored to operation in 1991 and is currently owned and operated by the Golden Gate Railroad Museum. The Pacific Locomotive Association has granted the group permission to run a few special excursions each year over their Niles Canyon Railway.

When 2926 starts her first excursion will you ride on of them?
4:10 wow, that was a lot of wheel slip there.
I can personally say that this engine has one of my favorite whistles. I like those low pitch 5-6 chime passenger whistles.
It's OK BUT I prefer a Nathan five chime. It just sounds so proud and attention grabbing.
Does too much throttle make that happen or what causes it? I'm curious, and don't know much about steam locomotives
I came from a different video and I didn't know what that train was until I watched this
Can’t wait to see her back in steam next month!
That 6 chime whistle is love!

What a wonderful page of history.
Great Video! I live right next door to the NCRY and always come out when 2472 is there. The whistle is so soothing. I think it is an SP 6-chime. I love this railroad! It is worth your time to come on out!

There is something about 2472's 6 chime that makes me have goose bumps, When I hear it coming around that corner. It gets me every time, 2472 sounds like a thunder storm challenging through the night with her rods clanking to the chuffs. plus I miss when they used Steam and Diesel locomotives at the same time.
I love how they make this thing work hard!

Great footage Mike!!! The whistle sounds like Santa Fe #3751's!!! I love it!!!!
That’s because it was stolen
@@sigmamealsskibidislicers56710 what? 2472 has had the same sp 6 chime since she was built. 3751’s whistle wasn’t stolen.

I cannot believe how little smoke this train has coming from its stack!
It’s the sign of a good fireman.
The less smoke, the cleaner it's running. Dark smoke is usually the sign of the engine not being fired correctly. The fireman can also throw sand in the firebox to clean the flues, that might also account for the smoke
I wish Caltrain would use it again. One can dream.
You know what they say. DONT LET YOUR DREAMS BECOME FANTASIES.
FANTASTIC VIDEO. I have loved steam locomotives ever sense I was a child, and that's been longer ago than I care to think about. Keep up the great work you're doing.

Did this locomotive ever burn coal and if it didn't has it always burned oil and will this engine ever run again?
This locomotive was always an oil burner. They want to run it again but not sure when.
Soon to be only 2 Running SP steam locomotives.. just #18 and 4449, as we're going to start on 745's 1472 this fall.

Will SP 2472 ever run at niles canyon Again?
I think it's up for sale actully
Really? I thought she was on display.
SP 2472's whistle Sounds like Santa Fe 3751's Whistle.
Her whistle is an SP 6 chime, although it sounds like it's lost a bit of it's sound in recent years.
ATSF 3751 has a Santa Fe 5 chime I believe, they have somewhat similar sounds in that they are both low and melodic, but if both locomotives had their original whistles as they existed in the steam era, you would definitely be able to hear a difference.
The Arctic Gamer ATSF 3751 has an ATSF 6 chime although it wore a much higher pitched ATSF passenger 5 chime in the early 1990's.
That's right, I believe the 5 chime was the original, but I'm not too sure.
2:52 6 chime
Why 2472 has a wooden smoke stack?
It’s metal not wood
