4:10 wow, that was a lot of wheel slip there. I can personally say that this engine has one of my favorite whistles. I like those low pitch 5-6 chime passenger whistles.
Great Video! I live right next door to the NCRY and always come out when 2472 is there. The whistle is so soothing. I think it is an SP 6-chime. I love this railroad! It is worth your time to come on out!

There is something about 2472's 6 chime that makes me have goose bumps, When I hear it coming around that corner. It gets me every time, 2472 sounds like a thunder storm challenging through the night with her rods clanking to the chuffs. plus I miss when they used Steam and Diesel locomotives at the same time.
Southern Pacific Pacific class locomotive 2472 was build in January 1921 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Eddystone, Pennsylvania for the Southern Pacific Railroad.
The less smoke, the cleaner it's running. Dark smoke is usually the sign of the engine not being fired correctly. The fireman can also throw sand in the firebox to clean the flues, that might also account for the smoke
FANTASTIC VIDEO. I have loved steam locomotives ever sense I was a child, and that's been longer ago than I care to think about. Keep up the great work you're doing.
Great heritage railroad. Love the truss bridge over the river a d road. Wish Canada had more heritage railroads around. We got some small ones on Ontario but nothing compared to what you guys have in the USA.
Her whistle is an SP 6 chime, although it sounds like it's lost a bit of it's sound in recent years. ATSF 3751 has a Santa Fe 5 chime I believe, they have somewhat similar sounds in that they are both low and melodic, but if both locomotives had their original whistles as they existed in the steam era, you would definitely be able to hear a difference.
No the Golden Gate Railroad Museum owns 2472 while the Pacific Locomotive Association who owns the Niles Canyon Railway owns the 2467. It's unlikely that the latter will run again for a while as she has some mechanical issues and it's just not logistical to run her in the canyon when they have smaller operating engines like Quincy 2 and Robert Dollar 3 which are both 2-6-2Ts.
This is one of my favorite steam locomotives
That horn sounds amazing when it echoes, such an amazing steam Locomotive

Loved riding on 2472 back in 2014, truly a work of art in motion.

I would love to see this this one pulling out of SF in its heyday!

It's OK BUT I prefer a Nathan five chime. It just sounds so proud and attention grabbing.
Does too much throttle make that happen or what causes it? I'm curious, and don't know much about steam locomotives
Can’t wait to see her back in steam next month!
I Love the cars back their.
im glad to see Southern pacific still alive after being absorbed by rio grande and becoming a part of UP.

The Arctic Gamer ATSF 3751 has an ATSF 6 chime although it wore a much higher pitched ATSF passenger 5 chime in the early 1990's.
