  • Eight tornadoes, epic supercell and constant lightning from the Cedar County Nebraska storm on June 17th, 2014.
    For licensing contact hankschyma@yahoo.com
    At least 8 separate tornadoes touched down from this isolated supercell. The first was a cone that roped out, the second was a brief rope minutes later and the third was long-lived and began as a multi-vortex tornado. On several occasions a thick RFD engulfed and obscured the tornado, then the rain cleared enough to see a tornado was still there. These could have been separate tornadoes however the more likely scenario is that it was the same one. The constant lightning produced by this storm was odd in that it was made up of many, many small cloud-to-cloud discharges rather than the usual large discharges and anvil crawlers that more often accompany the supercells I witness. After dark, the consistency of the upper updraft and anvil was fuzzy or foggy giving the soft glow to the small frequent discharges.

    This day was hard. Pilger Nebraska lost everything, so many farmers lost everything. My friend lost her little girl this day. It makes me cry knowing what I saw, experienced that day. It's a very eerie feeling. I rummaged through fields to help pick up people's lives the next day. It will never be forgotten. We helped our neighbors who were mourning so much. Nebraska has rebuilt.

    Mr.PecosHank, I am a storm spotter and watch a LOT of live stream storm chasing and equally a large amount of footage online (due to my logistics we at best get occasional EF0's in Nor Cal) . You have to be one the best chasing commentators (recorded and/or dubbed). When watching footage and that OMG lump in the throat bulks up.. you detonate "Chunkin Hogs" (and I LOL so loud my cat launches off my lap) and other lines like time lapse for viewers "in an ever increasing ADHD society" .... Thank you for your calm demeanor, witty banter and insertion of the "aftermath" stills in your vid's. We weather addict folk that can't get to Nebraska (or TOG ground-zero-anywhere) to see these vortexes rarely get to see what happens after the fact exactly where footage is shot unless it is a large scale showing of random devastation by news media. Puts it into a better perspective. Thank you for doing what you do.

    Hey Hank. I like that you spend so much time in Nebraska, including my native land of NE Nebraska. I just wanted to say, I like your style much more than some of the other chasers with their own shows, especially one who get really out of control emotionally. Not a real confidence builder for his team. Also, I find your stuff a good deal more educational than the others. I'm living in Ord, Neb., now. If you get up this way, give me a shout. I'd put you up.

Other chasers do stupid shit, put lives at risk just to get so close. Pecos has some amazing shots here. Plus he always thinks of how he can help others when they are in trouble in these storms.

    During the 2011 outbreak, we watched a cell which had developed in Alabama, cross over into Georgia just north of us. It was just after sunset, and in the anvil was continuous cloud to cloud lightning with no thunder at all. Occasionally, a bolt would make its way to the ground and it would rattle a bit, but otherwise complete silence. It went on to produce a short lived EF2 with minimal property damage and no injuries. It had to be one of the eeriest things I've ever witnessed.

      @Next Couple ...I’ve lived in Kansas my entire life, and have actually only seen 1 tornado in 35 years - and that was last summer. When it comes to these types of storms, you honestly get used to it. We get dozens upon dozens of supercell, severe storms every year. 5% of those storms will have a tornado warning. Out of that five percent, 25% will have an actual tornado. The odds of seeing one, let alone being hit by one at home, is very rare. (You has much better odds of getting crushed by a hurricane living in S. Florida. Plus tornadoes then, too!)
      Just know what county you’re in, pay attention to the forecasts, and use your head when it comes to warnings. Have an emergency plan, as in where you’re going for shelter, and give yourself ample time. And don’t forget to wear shoes!!
      Ain’t nothing but another day!

    Lightning bolts are fractal blueprints. Everything has this fractal design in it. Tree branches look like lightning bolts, roots, watersheds, river systems, even your own circulatory system has an array of lightning bolt shaped veins. The shrooms i took are the fruit body of lightning bolt fractal shaped mycellium

    • @danieldaniel4474
      @danieldaniel4474 7 лет назад +13

      +low owl Good observation! Quite simply put, in the literal sense, as the "path of least resistance." Lightening will follow the quickest and easiest route along active electrons, as tree roots will follow the quickest and easiest route to water sources, etc. The fractal shape can also be seen on volcanoes from lava flows, for the same reason as the fractal shape in watersheds. It's all fascinating

    So I’m a kid and I once thought that tornadoes were extremely rare and always damaging and deadly. Because of you and external research that I found elsewhere I now know that they’re pretty common in big storms and that the storm has to be a supercell and a very developed mesocyclone. I got big into tornadoes and weather when the Laramie Wyoming tornado on June 6th, 2018 touched down and brought 4 anti cyclonic tornadoes with it. It was declared an EF3 and the ground scarring that it left behind made it apparent to everyone that it was probably an EF4. It was also the most photogenic tornado of 2018 because there was no rain associated with the storm that birthed it

    *As someone who has never experienced a tornado before, I just wanna say that they are terrifying.*

    Could you imagine what Neanderthals were thinking when they saw storms like these?

    Hank, I love the freeze frame style you use in this vid. It lets me see things I previously could not. I have only run across one double tornado after dark. I was aware in the lightning flashes that there were 2 funnels straddling I-70. I couldn't really see either one. Thanks for showing them to me now. Muchos grande huevos, pal

    That shot at about 00:28 seconds in is freaking epic. Love the work you do, Hank. 🤘
