That punch at 13:00 is honestly one of my favorites of the series. It really embodies what is like to be getting your ass whooped. Trying to regain your bearings after the last hit but you just get rocked by another punch offscreen lmao
This is a really good teaser video for people who didn't watched the series yet. It shows what the anime has in store for the audience, what kinds of fights to expect, what types of characters there are, the overall vibe of the anime in general and, most importantly, it teases people who didn't watched it yet with Sendo's overwhelming charisma revealing a character that they know they're going to like and shows the brutality of the sport, which is a great way to fit in the current trends of the media. This is one of the few fights that show how strong both characters are, Shigeta beating Sendo, then Sendo showing his strenght and, with no need of background story, this fight can make non-anime fans to have goosebumps when shit goes down.
One of the greatest fights in the series but it becomes way more eerie when you realize sendo was fully going to end shigetas life without even a little bit of hesitation. Not only that but both the ref and the entire crowd was just chillin as a literal unconscious person received almost 80 superhuman punches unanswered I mean that’s stuff you’d expect from a show like Baki or something.
You need to remember that Sendo unlike Ippo is not the "good guy". He never has been.He is a vicious person,a street thug. Heck he is friends with that Psycho who attacks random women and is looking to murder people. People see Sendo and Takamura acting goofy with Ippo and forget how vicious those 2 are.

I can’t think of a time that he’s used violence outside the ring that wasn’t provoked first, either against him or against innocent people - when he was fighting in the street as a kid, he was protecting his friends against bullies. In the ring of course it’s different - whoever fights in the ring is accepting potential death or potentially killing opponent - it is mutual combat. Let’s not forget Ippo has almost killed people, and has given multiple fighters career ending injuries - its the reality of boxing.

The last two minutes of this fight was awe inspiring. Sendo wasn't fighting for anything, not winning nor not losing, he was fighting for his wounded pride against a man who had practiced for two months to combat sendo's style which is ruthlessly beating you to death. Poor guy never stood a chance. Even the main character ippo who has an iron will hardly beat him.
at the end assuming he was punching at the same rate when the camera was off of sendo, he landed about 75 punches before the ref stopped him. I guess the ref was just standing there shitting his pants as any normal person would

The old man shouting at Shigeta's cornerman to throw in the towel and save his boxer is heartbreaking, in a way. Shows the trainer doesn't really care about his fighter.

I like how the fighting leaves little hints that Shigeta's true dominant hand is his right. At 1:52, he gets a left uppercut, pauses a beat, and goes for a one-two... but he starts the one-two with his left hand! He's setting up for his more powerful punch!
Gotta love how Shigeta's trainer was down there fussing like this was some kind of game, like "OMG SENDO HAXORS!" while his boxer was up there about to die. xD

Lol, I remember that Sendo did something similar in his sparring vs Miyata, because this wasn't getting serious, and that's very disrespectful for Sendo. Miyata practically knocked out Sendo but didn't finish him, and Sendo said why he stopped: "This is just a sparring, there is no need to get serious". Sendo just rushed like here, and cornered him, practically knocking out Miyata but neither does he, saying the same phrase. Don't mess with Sendo.

If you have not been keeping up with the manga... DON'T. PISS. OFF. IPPO. Ippo is always humble, well-respected and shy around others, but he has a darkside, which the manga only revealed it only once when the challenger, Kojima Hisato, known for his truck-hard collision punch, purposely insulted Ippo, the Kamogawa gym and all the other boxers who Ippo respected. The day of the fight, Ippo took all that anger into the ring and rushed recklessly towards Hisato after a stare-down for nearly a minute. Hisato connected by landing a 100% powered-counter-punch right on Ippo's head hoping for a KO, which did not put Ippo to sleep, and in return, Ippo threw a monster-grudging-punch that flipped Hisato into the air, slamming Hisato's head twice onto the canvas.
I love how Kamogawa says "Arm strength can only take you so far." as if it was a reference to how he lost his boxing career from the damage he did to his hands in his fight with Anderson
To those saying that Sendo is the best candidate to takeover protagonist role if Ippo loses it...that's pretty much what's happening in the manga right now. So far he's struggling against a top fighter, but I'm betting he'll turn it around similar to how he did here.
In my opinion, Sendo should've been the main character because his attitude matches a good main character. Ippo is very shy around girls and doesn't look like he has confidence at all in himself for anything. And Sendo is a pure badass.

Lol, I remember that Sendo did something similar in his sparring vs Miyata, because this wasn't getting serious, and that's very disrespectful for Sendo. Miyata practically knocked out Sendo but didn't finish him, and Sendo said why he stopped: "This is just a sparring, there is no need to get serious". Sendo just rushed like here, and cornered him, practically knocking out Miyata but neither does he, saying the same phrase.
Don't mess with Sendo.
This is an example of what makes Hajime no Ippo one of the best Animes.

This fight is literally one of my favorites! that shigeta prick really gets my blood boiling, my 2nd is probably Takamura vs Hawk, basically any assholes that gets beaten to death, Ippo's fights are great and his "undying-will"(yeah its called courage here) is awesome, but damn that rage fueled anger are the things enjoying for me to watch.
If I'm in a bad mood I'd probably play this part.

I can understand Sendo's feelings when he got his pride crushed. Shigeta mocked about not just himself, but about his best rival, someone whom he respect and admire at the top of every boxer ever. It feels so satisfying when he mauled him. Poor fool Shigeta, you didn't know what were you doing with all that shitty prideful stuff.

Noobie2k7 It was, but it was actually, mostly the ref's fault. If something like this is happening in a match it's their job to stop it. It was a mistake on ref for not stopping it sooner.

It's Smash Time Looked it up. There are multiple refs but only 1 is named. He is Shimakawa the main ref for Kourakuen Hall.

If there had been a hajime no Sendo instead of ippo I would have been totally down with it, even his background story is more fitted for a protagonist than Ippo's.
fun fact-- in the Sendo Gaiden one off Sendo beat 30 high schoolers as a middle schooler with no previous boxing/fighting training.

Ippo is always humble, well-respected and shy around others, but he has a darkside, which the manga only revealed it only once when the challenger, Kojima Hisato, known for his truck-hard collision punch, purposely insulted Ippo, the Kamogawa gym and all the other boxers who Ippo respected. The day of the fight, Ippo took all that anger into the ring and rushed recklessly towards Hisato after a stare-down for nearly a minute. Hisato connected by landing a 100% powered-counter-punch right on Ippo's head hoping for a KO, which did not put Ippo to sleep, and in return, Ippo threw a monster-grudging-punch that flipped Hisato into the air, slamming Hisato's head twice onto the canvas.

To those saying that Sendo is the best candidate to takeover protagonist role if Ippo loses it...that's pretty much what's happening in the manga right now.

In my opinion, Sendo should've been the main character because his attitude matches a good main character. Ippo is very shy around girls and doesn't look like he has confidence at all in himself for anything. And Sendo is a pure badass.
