You didn't mention something very important, it scrolls to the last message when you open Messages. This happens by selecting the entire screen, opening Edit Styles, then making sure Reverse Scroll is checked.
my question is do you have a video of this from the first time you doing this? yes from the very start cause this feels like starting a good movie from the middle.

I think you missed a step in this video. At 30:46, your image 7 has a "sometimes visible" mark on it. However, I can't find the moment when you discuss that setting throughout the video. This causes the chat to display a white image whenever I sent a message, even if the message itself is without an image. Can you please provide the visibility settings on image 7 for me. It would help me a lot.
Yes absolutely. Sorry that I forgot to show that. It’s a viability rule to hide the image when there is no image to display. Sometimes Visible IF Current Message -> Image -> Is not equal to -> Empty Hope this helps. If not I will send you a screenshot of how it looks like.

Yes it happens when you did not get to that screen from a Chatroom. Adalo passes data from one screen to the next. If you click on one Chatroom to get to the next screen, Adalo will pass on the Current Chatroom (the one you clicked on) to the next screen.

Hi! Can you also create a time scheduling feature in Adalo? I was looking for a tutorial on making a time scheduling app where users can a create time table of their weekly schedule but, I can't find any. Hope you can create one.
This is a tricky one. Time scheduling usually involves connecting to the persons calendar to see when they are truly free (at least it would create a better experience). Because of that I would use a third party integration like Calendly.com for that and embed it into the app.

My chat messages scroll to the very newest message and takes a while to do so if there are many chat messages. Is there a way around this sorting? Newest messages at the bottom but takes 10 minutes for it to load to the newest message. Also does this refresh EVERY time a new message is sent so the user is having to wait for every message they have ever sent in that chat every time they send a message. PLS HELP!

My messenger is working beautifully...my only recommendation is to put the Message image box BELOW the message text box and it gives the messages a nice buffer off the bottom of the screen. My only problem with your database connections in this video is that there is no database record of the message receiver for me to send the push notification to in the Zapier workflow- only the sender. How would you go about incorporating the message receiver in the database and alternating that with message sender whenever a new message is sent?

Is this not very similar to Instagram Stories? With Adalo triggering something after X seconds is not possible. So your users would need to go to the next status by tapping a button.

Hi David, you are absolutely correct. Technically we could do the following: 1) Connect peltarion.com/ to our Adalo Database. Peltarion is an AI tool which can help analyse the text content. 2) Peltarion then stores back into Adalo's database, which post is potentially harmful. 3) You create a new Adalo app which uses The Same Database as the social media one, but this app is only for employees to use. 4) The employees can see a list of all posts marked as harmful and decide if they should be hidden (etc.) What do you think @Information Paradise?

For the last screen that shows the list of all the chatrooms the current user is a part of, would the next step in that screen be to create a rule for that list so when the user clicks on a chatroom from the list to takes them to the existing chat room? Thank you :) Adalo has an Action called Share. Once your app is on your phone, it opens up the native Share dialog on your phone. Then the user can select WhatsApp and share it there.
This is great and I am trying to follow you steps for button creating the chat room. We created collections for messages and chatrooms but not posts which shows up in your collection. s. In your instruction you go to current posts current user. both don't exist. What am I missing?
It will exist once you actually link from the user screen to your chat screen. You won't see "Current ...." unless you actually create the link from one screen to the next. Hope that helps?
If I'm having users click from a list of their friends to create a new chat; Any advice on how to filter the users from the list you already have a chat going with? I don't want them to create multiple convos with the same person. Thanks.
Yeah that's the main issue I understand your request. This is why in this tutorial I showed how you can show a "create chatroom" and an "open existing chatroom" buttons depending if there is already a chat or not. Doing this from a List directly is tricky in Adalo - not sure if this is doable. I built it into the users "profile" because there I can decide which buttons to show (create or open). Using a Custom List though allows you to do the same. So it is possible in general.

Nice video. Keenly aware of Adalo but fear the very slow speed of apps mentioned in its forums. Is this still true such that developers in its forums say it's just useful for prototyping not production apps? Even when you use a backend with APIs?
Yes Adalo is still for prototyping or I would say for version 1 of your app for your first 1000 users. After that you should think about migrating to a different solution (depending on your app). Having said that, this is not going to be this way for long after Adalo received $8M funding this year, I do believe Adalo will improve the platform A LOT going forward (I also hope it at the same time). In the background I'm (still) planning an interview with David Adkin (CEO of Adalo) and THIS will be a question I will ask him.

Thanks! And sure :) In that case you would set a Visibility Rule on the whole Group of Elements which contain the Posting Textbox and Button, and simply hide it IF the Logged In User is not an Admin. Does this help?

Please help Why when I start a chat with a user, the button that's supposed to open the active chat doesn't appear. The button that is meant to create the chat disappears like it's supposed to (when a chatroom is created), but the button that is meant to allow you to open or revisit the created chatroom (within the list) doesn't appear. Hi, most likely the issue is with your filters for that "Custom List". They are tricky to set up. You need to filter for "All Chatrooms where you are part of AND the person you are looking at is also part of" and show the first one (or all of them as you wish).

I saw your youtube on the Chat feature in Adalo. I am building similar feature like Chat but it isn’t exactly the same. I have a concept of Mom’s Pod and Mom’s joining a pod. Then a mom can ask her pod to help her. I need to have them connected like Chat feature you showed but I am running into issues that I can’t even add these moms together so they can see each other’s pods. When a mom asks for help, the mom who raises her hand can help. Connecting them all together is becoming a bit of challenge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am stuck... I am not able to see the messages typed post clicking the Send button. I didn't create the Chatrooms, directly from the User to Chat. But somehow there is no transition to show the messages pop up. . If someone can help
at 4:50 you create a relationship in chatroom with Message. and at 7:23 you create another relationship in message with chatroom. for my part, I find two chatroom relationships in the Message collection. while in your video you present only one relationship in message. I am a little lost. Can you explain to me if I don't understand.
Oh yeah I see, the first time I created it from the perspective of the Chatroom. And the second time I did it from the perspective of the Messages. You only need it once of course. I should have said that in the video. Remember, in Adalo when you create a Relationship in one Collection it also creates a Relation in the other table automatically. So I did not need to create the second relation at all at 7:23. Thanks for pointing it out :)

Hey man this happended to me! This happens when you dont have the action to go to CHAT WITH USER for that BUTTON. Once you created it will be there.

This is great and I am trying to follow you steps for button creating the chat room. We created collections for messages and chatrooms but not posts which shows up in your collection. s. In your instruction you go to current posts current user. both don't exist. What am I missing?
It will exist once you actually link from the user screen to your chat screen.
You won't see "Current ...." unless you actually create the link from one screen to the next.

If I'm having users click from a list of their friends to create a new chat; Any advice on how to filter the users from the list you already have a chat going with? I don't want them to create multiple convos with the same person. Thanks.
Yeah that's the main issue I understand your request. This is why in this tutorial I showed how you can show a "create chatroom" and an "open existing chatroom" buttons depending if there is already a chat or not.
Doing this from a List directly is tricky in Adalo - not sure if this is doable.
I built it into the users "profile" because there I can decide which buttons to show (create or open).
Using a Custom List though allows you to do the same.
So it is possible in general.

Nice video. Keenly aware of Adalo but fear the very slow speed of apps mentioned in its forums. Is this still true such that developers in its forums say it's just useful for prototyping not production apps? Even when you use a backend with APIs?
Yes Adalo is still for prototyping or I would say for version 1 of your app for your first 1000 users.
After that you should think about migrating to a different solution (depending on your app).
Having said that, this is not going to be this way for long after Adalo received $8M funding this year, I do believe Adalo will improve the platform A LOT going forward (I also hope it at the same time).
In the background I'm (still) planning an interview with David Adkin (CEO of Adalo) and THIS will be a question I will ask him.
@@michaelionita Thanks for the reply. Looking at a lot of no code solution and Adalo appears to be very competitive in letting you build relative complex apps quickly with no code! Hoping they get performance issues resolved soon so they can handle much more than 1k users. Cheers.

Great Tutorial man. Can you explain to me how the data would differ if I want to create a channel that only allows admin to post but still have members in the same channel too. Almost like how private channels on Telegram operate... If you don't mind.

In that case you would set a Visibility Rule on the whole Group of Elements which contain the Posting Textbox and Button, and simply hide it IF the Logged In User is not an Admin.

I just have a prolem, when I create @ 20:46 after I view the messages, the button completely disappears and the only way to chat with the user again is to go to full chatroom screen list, I think other people in my case and when I go on preview of your app It's the same thing for you, how you can fix it ? thanks

What do you mean? Just leave the image element and keep only the text then you should be good? But I'm not 100% sure I get the question.

Why when I start a chat with a user, the button that's supposed to open the active chat doesn't appear. The button that is meant to create the chat disappears like it's supposed to (when a chatroom is created), but the button that is meant to allow you to open or revisit the created chatroom (within the list) doesn't appear.

Hi, most likely the issue is with your filters for that "Custom List".
They are tricky to set up.
You need to filter for "All Chatrooms where you are part of AND the person you are looking at is also part of" and show the first one (or all of them as you wish).

I saw your youtube on the Chat feature in Adalo. I am building similar feature like Chat but it isn’t exactly the same. I have a concept of Mom’s Pod and Mom’s joining a pod. Then a mom can ask her pod to help her.
I need to have them connected like Chat feature you showed but I am running into issues that I can’t even add these moms together so they can see each other’s pods.
When a mom asks for help, the mom who raises her hand can help. Connecting them all together is becoming a bit of challenge.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

at 4:50 you create a relationship in chatroom with Message. and at 7:23 you create another relationship in message with chatroom. for my part, I find two chatroom relationships in the Message collection. while in your video you present only one relationship in message. I am a little lost. Can you explain to me if I don't understand.
Oh yeah I see, the first time I created it from the perspective of the Chatroom.
And the second time I did it from the perspective of the Messages.
You only need it once of course.
I should have said that in the video.
Remember, in Adalo when you create a Relationship in one Collection it also creates a Relation in the other table automatically.
So I did not need to create the second relation at all at 7:23.
