I'm annoyed that Apple TV 3 stopped supporting RUclips. My 3rd generation Apple TV runs just fine and I have no plans to buy a new model but the RUclips app no longer works. I'm so sick of perfectly good technology being made obsolete just so companies can sell me new stuff and make more money.
I just got a free 3rd gen from a friend who never used it and after installing/updating, it’s lacking big time compared to the 4k 2nd gen I bought when it came out a few months ago. It’s really a great all-in-one device with a much better remote. Definitely worth the buy if you’re into practical convenience, but otherwise AirPlay is always an option! I put the 3rd gen in my bedroom so AirPlay will be good enough since it’s rarely gonna be used.
You could always jailbreak it if you have a Mac and then install pretty much anythin
RUclips is not working on my LG OLED TV lately. RUclips is the trouble maker.

Nothing is made to last, and if it does happen to last then it's quickly rendered obsolete because the company no longer supports the product. Why? So the company can sell the next new shiny thing. But hey, keep spending your money, buddy. LOL
Straight forward and engaging, great job. I have an Apple TV 3 myself and it's still running at its best after 8 years or so.
Just purchased mine, as a light TV user (and a non-4K tv user) this is just what I needed!
Just thrifted my Apple TV for 6 bucks and Im satisfied Apple Music, Netflix, and air play Im happy
As a person with a bedroom viewsonic M2e mini projector with a 3rd Gen Apple tv laying around, it was nice to see what functionality if any I could get out of it and airplay from my MacBook pro is perfectly what I was hoping for. Sadly no bluetooth means no home kit functionality. The native Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu, and Apple TV+ apps are the ones I use most. No new Apps means sadly no Disney PLUS... but for that I watch Apple4k w/4K tv & sound bar. One other feature that is great with the apple tv is that it does use the OG HomePod to fantastic effect for a solid sound bar type feel. Thanks again for the info.

Sucks that it’s pretty irrelevant but I’ll definitely be using it for airplay.
Got my gen 3 when it first came out and it still runs perfect! I still use the preinstalled Netflix app without any problems. For sure a good purchase at the time.

My parents still has it, ever since new. It's in the bedroom, not in the living room, where the 2015 4th gen apple tv is.
As you said most apps are already on your smart TV. I use my old Apple TV to stream music from "Music" (formerly iTunes) on my computer to my Hi fi in another room. It worlks well.

You just stream it from your phone. Go into the RUclips app on your phone, at the top of the screen you will see airplay link. Pick your airplay and pick what u want to watch.

Thank you helped me out and me be older person! I have a I phone SE 64GB 2020 but have a Sony smart tv! You helped me out a lot with the airplay! Also I do have a tablet by Samsung too! My problem is some shows will play well ! But sometimes it buffers around but I think it’s where I live! I was Abel in April too watch Yellowstone but now on the tv it will not play but it will on my phone if you or anyone can me out why it’s not working would be awesome cause I am very worried I won’t be able to watch season 4 on my TV ! I just got the Apple TV 3 and have problem Airplay some app to the Apple TV. RUclips working ok but Disney+ and Netflix show an error when Airplay. Anyone know the reason?

My dad got the gen 3 when it came out and he just gave me a tv and his old Apple TV 3 and they both still work fine today but I have to AirPlay Disney plus

How come you can't download the movies anymore? I use to be able to save them on the tv itself.

If you want to watch a movie on your browser you can turn the ios device of, if the player supports fullscreen playback. If nit the screen of your device needs to be turned on.

Hi, do you have any work arounds on activating a restored Apple TV 3? From what I have seen online, it seems that screen mirroring/ Airplay won’t work without activating, and that is true also in my case

Has anyone had any success with workarounds for using bluetooth headphones while streaming this via airplay? (even with a transmitter) havent used it before so im not sure if it has audio controls to come from comp & wondering what happens to a bluetooth transmitter. sucks the features change so drastically to the 4 i prefer the simplicity of not having siri and the appstore. theyre just doing the same thing car models started doing around 2014-2016

RUclips still work with airplay but airplay on safari stopped working. Apple +, netflix, disney + amazon prime... everything work but bugs and often RUclips start from scratch witch is very annoying

The Apple TV 6th Gen has a similar remote but with a volume button, same old aluminum.
I do own one, won it at Christmas time in 2015 . Just opened it to night soo what 7 yrs ago.. . Have no use for it other than AirPlay, Should have left it in its box. It dose not have near the apps as your dose, I tried to update it it won't, not sure y.. Not yet I'll have to play with it more latter on.. . Only thing it's good for like u said is air play and certain movies that are not or Netflix.. At least not yet.. the dam thing is brand new, I shoulda sold it when I was thinking about. Now I'm stuck with a paper weight.

Does anyone else know how to get passed the problem of not being able to stream netflix from your phone specifically on apple tv 3 since the update? The app still works but it won't allow you to just stream it from your phone as opposed to ooening the app on apple tv. Please let me know if you know of a way to bypass this or reset it so I can stream netflix from my phone again

siri on the remote is very useful when you want to search for a movie and not have to type it in...atv 3 is a decent box tho for now, eventually apps will stop working like they did with the original roku boxes and i highly doubt apple will push another update to fix the apps again but who knows...if you can get this for 20 bucks do it
Apple tv is is great audio streamer! The optical port is a heaven sent for the audiophile !
I’m aware that ATV 3 doesn’t support AirPlay 2, but it is useable in an multiroom AirPlay 2 environment? Like when I don’t want to stream FROM the ATV 3 but TO the ATV3 (as an audio streaming device, only with the optical out connected) in addition to other multiroom speakers?
Got a 3rd Gen Apple TV + Charging Cable + Remote at Goodwill for like 8 bucks. Good for AirPlay.

yes
The Apple TV 3 has an A5 chip in it not an A8. The A8 came out in 2014, the Apple TV 3 came out in 2012. The Apple TV 4/HD however dose have an A8 Chip and is still plenty fast to this day and is still supported. The A5 was 32 Bit and the A8 is 64 Bit. So that may be why it’s a tad bit slower.
When using airplay, is there a lag? If so, about how long would you say the delay is? Thanks!

Is this info still valid? I just bought one and I cannot any of my devices to work with screen mirroring. I have tried two phones, 1 iPad, and a Mac. I rebooted the Apple TV twice and got the latest update. The only reason I bought this old device was to mirror my phone. Anyone else having similar issues now?
I am on the same network. I can use my phone for a remote, so they are seeing each other in the network.
Do you know how to by pass not being able to use your phone while you’re airplaying it? I can’t get out of the app without the video stopping 😭

@@jb_rock8617 yes i believe you can. When it doenst have wi-fi it doesn’t show all the apps so I airplay. Im not sure if the device u are using to airplay needs wi-fi though. (guessing u do)

@@Xanderoby I don’t about multi room but it definitely works with a single HomePod mini with no delay. I use AirPlay from my phone to my Apple TV and I’ve set the output to my HomePod Mini on the Apple TV.

Maybe you could try resetting the Apple TV? Thats a weird issue - never heard of it. Maybe try restarting your router as well

You can mirror pretty much whatever you want with airplay though...

I stated in the video that you can airplay a RUclips video from your phone, but without jailbreaking, there's no way to redownload it (to my knowledge)

The Apple TV 3 has the A5 Chipset (in 2 versions how fare i know, bit can be that i messed uvp some things with the Apple TV 2) and not the A8, the A8 is the heart of the Apple TV 4 or how it called today the HD, what was the titel of the 3rd gen before the 4K model came to the market (and yeah i know, its kind of confusing) and ends the lifecycle of the 3rd gen…
But the Apple TV was a strange story from the beginning cause Apple seems a long time to be unsure what they should do with the Apple TV categorie, if just one device for all or two devices like an own TV and a just Streaming device…
At some Point they decided that they would run it just as one product only categorie, a setup box (not 2 devices like) and the first child of this decission was the Apple TV 4/HD…
