    Since Nathan like durian, you all can try a trick where you wrap it with a plastic wrap (so that the refrigerator does not have durian smell) and put the durian into the refrigerator for about one and half hour(not the freezer). After that you can take it out and eat it. The taste will be better. So guys enjoy.

    For the ultimate appreciation of the durian, head to Malaysia, NOT thailand or Vietnam. The variety and different species of durians are better documented in Malaysia.. Each has its distinctive level and dimension of taste. To all first-timers, dont judge by its initial taste in just mere seconds. Instead, have an IMPARTIAL MINDSET first and then slowly focus on its changing taste in your mouth. It is a wonder between sweet and bitter, more appreciation on the bitter side. For instance, just like how people appreciate alcohol.

    I am half Chinese and every time I went to Asia to see family, I would smell a durian in some shops and think “what is THAT SMELL”. As a child I thought it smelled gross, and since there’s not so much durian in China I wasn’t pressed to try it. When I grew to adulthood someone described the taste to me like creamy vanilla custard so then my curiosity was piqued to try it... now I LOVE DURIAN!!!

    Durian is the sort of fruit you either love or hate, there is no middle ground. I happen to love it to bits. I would describe durian as nature's custard, given the texture, consistency and sweetness of the flesh. If you've tried it and don't seem to hate or feel repulsed by it, there is a high chance that you will really grow to love it the more you eat it. As a durian lover, I perceive the smell of the fruit as really fragrant and sweet, and don't get how newbies or haters think that it stinks. Depending on the species of durian, the level of sweetness, acidity, fragrance, thickness and color of the flesh varies. The ones picked out for you should be really good :)

    • @AlwaysaFriday
      @AlwaysaFriday  6 лет назад

      This is spot on Mark, I feel the same way, the taste was very different from what I'm used to and even though I didn't love it straight away, it certainly grows on you and you find yourself wanting more and more! Thanks for watching!

  • @talkshowhost85
    @talkshowhost85 7 лет назад +4

    The reason why it is expensive is because those are hybrids thus the more consistent quality but also it's a silly big city practice whereby durians are weighed and is unfair because obviously you don't eat the spiky shell which you're also paying for 😂 however you can't argue that anymore because it's widely accepted now. Whereas in small towns or villages they would sell durians in its whole quantity. In my hometown it can cost RM10-12 but the fruit is just slightly smaller yet the flesh can be just as big as the ones you're holding. Some people like firm flesh some like it mushy but always avoid most frozen ones because they're usually not ripe and they're as hard as an apple's flesh.
    Good job anyway!

  • @Artbywtn
    @Artbywtn 5 лет назад +1

    My mum hated it until she met my dad.
    Now she’s happily eating it!
    My sister is picky with food except durian!
    Since It’s seasonal fruit , for those who love it it’s divine to enjoy it during durian season. The texture is soft in general. Taste is like combination of creamy, sweet and bitter! Personally If someone around u eat it, You’d better eat it too to be used to. Or else can’t handle the smell!

  • @fernandezrudy886
    @fernandezrudy886 7 лет назад +4

    actually, you can eat the unripe durian, if you can't stand with the smell and the taste. some people even cook it and eat it with rice. The unripe durian tastes plain and not smelly at all.

    Different type of durians will have its own distinguished taste. Like the one you tasted XO is known for the bitter taste (while it is still custardly sweet). Other types like Musang King is mostly sweet. You can ask the seller on the taste, but to simplify, it's usually either bitter or sweet. Good luck and enjoy your time in Malaysia!

    Do you know that you cannot pluck Durians from the Durian tree because you wouldn't know if the fruit is ripe. Only the Durian tree decides.The fruits falls when it is ripe and ready to be eaten. Durians normally falls after midnight especially before dawn light breeze shakes the ripe fruit and it falls. Durians are at its best in aroma, taste, flavor, and texture and freshness after it falls. Keep it longer the sweetness become slighter bitter.. Enjoy fresh delicious durians in Malaysia. Be there during Durian seasonn. Thanks for reading.

    Rebecca, if you're eating it for the first time and not liking it ,its understandable ! For the first - timers ,you need to acquire the taste ! Believe me ,after 3or 4 forced sessions,you'll be craving for more,just like the locals !😁😁😁😁

    i think you guys ate a D24 types of durian becouse the price hella expensive LOL and the taste from that kind of durian mostly strong and bitter . as a Malaysian , i personally cant even eating it more than 2 or 3 pieces . i suggest you guys eat a more light taste types of durian and mostly there are not that expensive , the taste you will get kinda sweet plus creamyy

    Having seen so many durian videos, I can say that starting with XO probably wasn't the place to start, XO being quite bitter. D13, D24 or D101 would have been better varieties to start with. D24 is usually described as the perfect starter durian. Golden Pillow or Red Prawn are also good first durians. And if you really want to like it, there's Musang King (Mao Shan Wang)

    Love it. There's so many different varieties and they all taste so different. I really like the kampung ones from old trees. Other faves are Aiskrim, Kachang Hijau, Red Prawn, Green Skin, Musang King.

    Back to 2000's the price of durian was very cheap, you can get 10 durians for only RM20. Now, im not sure why the price of durian inflated so high.

    I was curious to try Durian as I had mixed feelings from people who I had spoken to. So when I went to live in Singapore I managed to pluck enough courage to try it out for my self. I think if you buy a good variety like Musan king it tastes pretty good. The texture is quite difficult to get used to for me, and generally speaking I think it was much better than I anticipated. One thing that still puts me off though is the smell on the breath even hours after eating it specially after burps ( not nice!), but otherwise it’s all good.

    They said either you hate it or love it. No, it is ok for me. If I am hungry, I would not mind eating Durian. However, it is not something I dwell or thinking about it. To be honest, mango is much tastier than Durian.

    great video! and really optimistic in trying out the durian! thumbs up to that! i've been eating durian since young. The next time you have your chance to be in that same place where you shoot this video..ask them to introduce you to all types of durian. from squishy to solid flesh. from bitter to plain and milky to savory sweet flesh. I guess by now you'd notice that the smell will stick on your fingers or around your mouth if you have contact with it. its easy to get rid of of smell, simply run through some water along the husk of the durian and drink the water. as for your hands, rub anything against aluminium (its the same method as getting rid of garlic smell on your hands). its mythical but it works! nevertheless, awesome effort!

    People keep saying "either you love it or hate it"
    -lol no.
    Its strong taste and smell amplify people's reactions but there are still a lot of people that are just meh about it. Durians are common enough in Malaysia that many people would eat it occasionally but not obsessed. (personally, I really want to eat some every season). Some people like it but restrain themselves because durians are expensive and very high in calories. Also your mouth dries very quickly and if you eat too much, you might wake up with a sore throat next morning.

    I'm malaysian and I love durian. I prefer village durian more. My grandma told me that we need to eat mangosteen after durian, it will cold down our body temperature because durian will rise our body temp. So, this is why my family have durian orchards & mangosteen trees. Coconut is good as well, it has the same function. Durian is king of fruits and mangosteen is the queen.

    You've explored the outskirts of KL and the food there. I think it's tme to 'upgrade' that when you are back in M'sia next, maybe try arranging with the hotels especially the 5-star ones and show us your experiences in those hotels. Also, of course the amazing islands/beaches here (e.g. Perhentian, Redang), Kota Kinabalu, Genting Highlands ;)

I only heard about it for so many years and even wonder what's so good about Musang King's durian until I had the first bite, then I realised it obviously it is top of the world indeed. So, I had decided to grow in my hometown one day.
