rather be slow and safe than them rush it faster than theyre comfortable with and hit something and end up with a massive repair bill. idc if it takes an hour to dock safely its better than doing it in 60 seconds but with $20,000 in repairs
You have a point. If you ding a working trawler or a tugboat, nobody cares as long as it floats. These beasts must be polished and in perfect shape all the time.
Waterjet Kamewa engines on yachts like Mangusta do not have the same resistance as traditional propellers and rudders, so docking, especially when going in reverse, can require more skill and experience from the captain. When docking, a smaller amount of water is released through the nozzles, which can cause the yacht to respond differently than expected. One of the challenges is that the jets can push the boat away from the dock if the propulsion settings are too aggressive or not well-suited for the situation.
Hasn't the Skipper heard of dead slow in reverse and steady as she goes, the crew at the stern with the limes are in constant contact with the Skipper, so they are his eyes, and direct him in their progress, a nice steady reverse looks more impressive and professional than flogging the arse out of the engines for no reason at all.
The big yachts require some showmanship when docking. A normal Captain would be yelling "shut those giant, fuel swilling engines down. What? Are we made of money?"
What a long time it took to reverse up to the dock, obviously the Captain wasn't paying for all the fuel he'd wasted, waffling about getting his rich boys toys docked.
this is what happens with kamewa waterjet when docking, they push water against the wall and the boat gets pushed back, if you putting more power does not resolve, and provocate waves
You've gotta love the raw engine sound. Reminds me a bit of a modern Bugatti....
Reminds me of an old caddy with the 500ci v8
To this day, they still haven't finished.

Didn’t know this comment section was full of super yacht captains wow!
Looks like that jet drives bouncing off that wall pushing it back forward
Great video
Pity he could not rev it up more. Ye all saying its slow. Better slow then fast as I just love to hear the sound of the mtu engines

Flogging? As in cylinders glazing from too much low-load time or?
Thats has got to be the slowest Med Moor I've seen, I've done it quicker in a 3500 ton frigate

is it a common practice to have the rope take load on the CASPTAN? is it that heavy to heave in using hand? OR is it too heavy? :)
Probably 100 tons. You could try by hand

Wie die Anfänger zum Kotzen wo haben die das Anlegen gelernt!
Fuel consuption at 15 knots
An experienced SAILOR could do that with NO gas motors
Butt i am stil waiting .
😂
This is painful
And just think Azzam at 590ft can go even faster with 94,000 hp.
Wasting all that diesel was too painful and too expensive to watch, it made my blood boil and skin crawl.
Slow is pro! But its to slow!
Wasting fuel
Woman driver !!!!!!!! am I being sexist, HeHe
Total waste of power.
