Massive respect for what you have done. I’m a computer engineer with some electronic background and I had to troubleshoot my CAS in an E89 Z4 and that alone drove me nuts, what you are doing is on a totally different level and I cannot imagine myself going through this to troubleshoot.
Thanks Justin - and that’s all it was. Troubleshooting and schematic reading. Add to the fact that the schematics weren’t fully accurate? And that didn’t help!’n
CONGRATULATIONS ON FIRST START BUD! This day has been a long time coming and it sounded so worth it at the end. I look forward to the writeup. Btw have you considered starting a Patreon to fund your projects and recording equipment?
I have heard of it. My Inspiration @bisforbuild has one. I should look into it. I wish we could send private messages to talk about that offline, but yeah, I need to do more research on that for sure! thanks for the sugg!
Great videos and THANK YOU for the hard work in bringing us the great content! I LOVE IT! I wanted to say that these cars need almost everything from the car to be present to start and to work correctly or else -----------. I know you know a ton about them and I won't try to tell you a lot about this. But the car searches for the rest of the cars components and must see the TCU and other ECU's in the car to give the "OK" to start the blasted thing. Thus if someone wants to do swaps with these engines it's almost best (or IS best lol) to just transfer EVERYTHING from the mother or donor car to the patient car. Oh and NEVER cut anything off the ECU unless absolutely necessary. Even then mark the wires or loom etc. Okay I'll shut up now and continue to enjoy your great video! (I've only seen until 19:01 so far LOL. DOH!). Edit: I'm now at 26 mins in and ohh man do I feel for you man! (and I feel guilty for laughing when it kept not starting for you too lol.)
It was so frustrating I did many more start attempts than that Kyle. After a while, I just wanted it to start. DIdn't record a lot of it at the end there!
Love the video. You got me rethinking about something I wanted to do the last 5 years now. My 535i is cramped. I wanted to know do you think I can swap my bmw into any bmw chassis like a e38 because the engine bay is bigger or do I need to keep it within a e92 or e60?
Dude... huge amounts of respect for persevering through this! I have to ask... why the heck didn’t you just use aftermarket engine management? I just wired an m50 into an e30 and that was only a few wires. I can only imagine the frustration levels here. Well done! Hats off to you 👍🏻
HAHA, because I wanted someone to know that you CAN do it with just a CAS module (with corresponding key). You don't need expensive engine management!!! Thanks for the reply and thanks for watching man!
😂 Self-inflicted frustration for all of our benefit. Again, very impressive, huge well done 👍🏻 Speeduino UA4C by WTMtronics is $200 to save you the pain on your next swap 👍🏻
Fyi... current BMW training STILL states "you CANNOT EVER cut or repair a CANBUS line". Instead you quote/order whatever entire loom is attached to any wiring problem you find.
I have a question I plan on swapping an N52 into an e36 (long term, likely wont get started anytime soon due to budget) I'm assume there are some differences between the N54 and N52 engines wiring wise, but I can't really find any information, only wiring swap kits with CAN emulators. I however am more of a DIY guy and would very much like to do the entire wiring myself either by programming a CAN emulator with an arduino myself, or by transplanting everything from a donor car into my e36 (which is I believe what you have done) Are you aware of any important differences in wiring between these engines? I know an N54 doesn`t run on an MSV70-MSV80 like the N52 does, but I'm assuming wiring wise it's mostly the same Because if so I'd very much be interested in the integrators guide you have for the N54 and use it as a guideline
It’s different and I can help. Check out my subscriptions page on my website www.Garageaholic.build to get you setup over a week or two timeframe worth of work!
I am actually so swamped right now that I am not taking any additional customer requests at the moment. But it sounds like a great swap. I’ve done s54 swap into my restored e21, so e30 is much easier. Just need to find m50 oil pan to make the mechanical integration much easier!
@@Garageaholic Thanks for the reply! I’ve been binging on your videos and have been left in awe watching a master in his craft. I’ll ask again in 6-8 months 😬. Could you email me a ballpark price for the s54 swap with everything included to diegot206@yahoo.com .. again thank you for these epic videos!
You are someone who really knows his stuff , most youtubers pretent and let other people do everything, very nice channel but so underrated
Thanks a lot for the comments. Appreciate it!!

Even watching this 2 years after shows anything is possible. Great job
Wow thanks so much for that
Actual best intro.
Congratulations, you can be very proud of your project. nice greetings from Germany Keep up the good work
Thanks Andreas! Appreciate the support man!
Kick ass Frank!!!! Way to go!!! Can’t wait to see what coming next.
Thanks Dean! Making good progress now! Things are coming along quickly!
man your an absolute legend, love your work and passion - keep it up!

Hahah thanks Greg! Yeah you CAN Run the engine but it runs in limp after 30 second persistence. I addressed that in follow-up videos
NICE!!! That looked so frustrating, have yourself some beers 😂

Great job see you next time!
Good vid👌🏿 much needed
Will this concept work with any platform? I have an old 2nd gen dodge ram and an N54 donor car 😏
Is that the harness of a N54 and ecu or just harness
Still waiting for the E46 N54 swap
You maaaaaaay be waiting a while 😂 u less you want to provide all to me and I integrate
@@Garageaholic that would not work out as I am in the middle of the Indian ocean 😂
Bad ass man!!
Thanks John!

Hahah no you can repair a can bus line. Just need to maintain a strong tight wind

Contact me on my website
Nvm I understand but would this work on a auto trans too?
You da mans 🤯
Thank you!!
Would this be the same for a ms45 ecu
Can I apply all these instructions of wiring to e46 chassis? Or it’s completely different?

I need the write up book where can I get it
Hey go to my website - it’s www.Garageaholic.build and you can download yourself a copy!
Before 18:17 "Oh thats really simple. After: Oh...
True statement, but at 31:06, everything just seems to fit into place. Then check out the later vid I released showing how simple it really is!
How much would you charge me to do a s54 engine swap on an E30?

I was going to say don’t you need the car to know the brakes and clutch are pressed and also that it’s not in gear
Normally, It needs to know the clutch is pressed to start. But that can be bypassed
you poor guy !
at about 25 min there was a girl laughing at you !!
Haha that’s my wife. Thanks for all your comments. If you’d like you can unsubscribe! I have no problem with that at all!!
hi buddy how to contact you
