Couldn't JSRF be a story told by Prof. K about the original game JSR with the differences in the game's plot being Prof. K giving his own view on it. Because near the end of JSRF Prof. K is accused of telling a false story.
Maybe that’s what brings everyone back together in JSRF. If the narrative is DJ K’s then I’d like to assume this. The GGs refers to that gang of Rudies as the Good Guys (as stated in the other comments). When the gang split, they probably had a different name in JGR/JSR. Fast Forward some years with all of them not being in a gang for a while the hear of a new gang starting up to protect the streets of tokyo-to. They did it once, they figured they can do it again. With all the GGs changing appearance over the years they probably didn’t recognize each other at first (plus tab changed his name back to corn). With DJ K telling both stories he probably couldn’t remember both names over so many years whether that be due to bad memory or age, nevertheless he just started calling them the GGs. But I didn’t write the story so, yeah

I remember reading somewhere, maybe the manual, that Beat ran away from home when he was young like many of the rudies. In the final chapter of JSRF, Rokkaku says something along the lines of "welcome my sons" when introducing the two Zero Beats. I don't know, just something I've always thought, I don't know how that'd fit in with your Goji Sr./Jr. theory. I also always thought GGs stood for Graffiti Gang for some reason lmao. Fantastic video by the way- this is by far my favorite game of all time, and I love getting to hear other's thoughts on it because I feel that there's so much hidden behind this game with lore, story, etc. I really hope we get a fully fleshed out continuation someday.
There's more evidence that Roboy is a Noise Tank. In the chapter where the Noise Tanks invade the streets, if you talk to Gum, she'll say "There's a rumor going around that Roboy is a prototype Noise Tank. Don't tell him that though, he might freak out." Or something like that, I don't remember exactly.
I think the spray cans are a gameplay only element with no in universe existence, like I don't think rings are scattered all over the ground in sonic games

Although, personally, I think JSRF is a reimagining of JSR, you make some pretty solid theories with legit evidence! If there was ever a remake that adapted the story of both JSR and JSRF, they should really take notes from this video!

IF indeed it was intentional, i don't think they're implying Beat is an alien... but rather, he is a Rokkaku (For some reason, Grace and Glory plays as his All-star theme in Sonicandsegayadadayada racing transformed. this could mean the same thing) Edit: GG could also mean Grace and Glory, but then maybe renamed to Good Guys, you'll never know

Yes you are correct. This video was simply made to show that originally, JSRF might've been a sequel or that there are so many things taken from the first game that it appears as a sequel
JSRF seems like it's a re-imagining of the first game with sequel-esque elements (Such as it being in the future and the characters being older than their JSR counter-parts). I remember an old website SEGA had for the original Jet Set Radio, and there majority of the characters were supposedly around 18. Now we get to JSRF, which is a huge time jump into the future, and the characters themselves only look like they aged a few years.

I'm gonna assume at least 4 or 3 year time jump between JSR and JSRF because some of the characters have gotten noticably taller (most noticable on Rhyth) This also gives enough time for Dj professor k to have white hair assuming he was already old in the original.
If any game from the jet set franchise needs to be rebooted it would be JSRF. My opinion is based on their soundtracks & news characters when it came out.

i am late but cool theories, tho i dont really agree with everything but u do make a lot of good points i lean towards the beat is rokkaku's son theory that some ppl in the comments mention, but your rokkaku sr & jr theory seems plausible too (esp the noise tank part, personally when i played i thought that the noise tanks did something to him but that he is still a human, but who knows) or maybe you can combine the theories and beat is actually rokkaku jr's son and so rokkaku sr's grandson lol (idk how old the rokkaku's wouldve been in JSR so maybe its not possible) and yeah jsr & jsrf arent actually supposed to be connected and its more an alternate universe, but i do still feel like jsr happened in the jsrf universe, just that the events were slightly different from the _actual_ jsr (which would explain some things), but thats just my idea of it also i never saw the bit with the arrows on the graffiti soul as the shoulders, i always thought it was a nose lol (kinda like a skull)

I think that in jsr, they are actually children. Like around 12-15. Everytime you play a level the levels, they always mention the protagonists as kids. "When you find those kids, I don't care what happens, just nab em" as an example. I believe combo was the oldest of them all, since he had a deep voice in jsr and even says "yo kid". In jsrf, they are in their late teens/early adult hood, around 18-21. Hence why some characters like gum and rhythm have revealing outfits and what not. Combo is bald because he's older than everyone else. This mean professor K had the time to become old and have gray hair. That's about 10+ years. So we can say he's like 30 in jsr but in jsrf he's pushing 40. That's what I think is the truth. Even tho jsrf isn't a sequel, still good to think about.
10 years is reasonable, but the ages seem off. Everyone appears to be later teens in JSR. K could be around 40 in JSR, then about 50 in JSRF. I know it's possible, but most people don't grey that much by 40. Then the GGs could be in their mid to late 20s. Makes sense to me anyway.
Right I've been working on this, the noise tanks are intertwined, look at the sillouete of zero beat in the first cutscene, it looks more like beat, or more 'human', thats because thats an earlier version of zero beat, an earlier version of nt3000 possibly and the blackout was caused by rokkaku when testing the tower, it probably takes alot of power to contain the devils contract. We then see zero beat 1 (later models) in the cutscene in chuo street, fight 2 and 3 but there are 4, look at the dance of the one we see on chuo street, its like an advanced beat dance, so maybe he was reprogrammed with a new, more intimidating dance in 1 2 and 3, as we meet 3 before fighting the train and he is performing that dance when we see him. I dont count 5 as canon though. But more important than all this, what the heck even is he?

I would say that's future take place around 5 or so years after orginal as the characters look aged up but still young. K's hair could be a dye job. Yo-yo and cube look considerably older then their orginal incarnations. Same for combo and beat
That is really cruel. The ending is one of the few fully realized challenges in the whole game. Sadly, it's not perfect, but it's far better than the original final boss in JSR
Np Atom ^^. One of the big one's that makes a lot of sense was Goji vs Gouji, and the connection with the Noise Tanks. A few others that I liked were Beat being an alien, and Yoyo lying. Also to answer a bit of your unanswered questions: Q:Why can rudies see the spray cans? A:Because they're the one's who listen to JSR, the Music allows them to open their minds~ lol And who knows, maybe the graffiti souls are why they can tune into the JSR in the first place :d no coincidence as to why gouji tower has the same graffiti souls esque shape to broadcast his message. Q:Why is Rhyth on the building? A:She's looking for/watching Poison Jam. She thinks they're cute if I remember correctly. Q:How big was the time jump? A:Not as big as you think. The main problem is thinking that DJ is old. In this era where characters like Yoyo and Combo dye their hair, it's not far fetch to say that DJ didn't do the same.
I've got a bad habit of making promises that I can't keep. So I can't exactly say yes or know when the video will be out. Just know that I have ideas for another JSR type video. Not sure when that'll be if ever. It'll be sometime within this decade I promise XD
Didn't the Jet Set Radio instruction manual _explicitly_ list Beat's age as 17? Or was that just in Japan? Because just about every source I see online says that JSR-era Beat is 17; there's no ambiguity or controversy about it. It's Professor's K's age that's unknown.
Probably, I've never actually seen the Original JSR manual, but I'm definitely checking it out now. [EDIT] I've found the manual online and it didn't have any AGEs for the characters. However I did learn that K has been in Shibuya for 13 years as well as where the GGs original garage was located. Thanks for the tip

there were billboards in the original jsr that said 2001. like if you seen these, too. that would mean it's been 23 years, and if you think about, that could be it. if you look at yo-yo in jsr, he looks like a child, and in jsrf, he does look a bit older

Professor K tells you that the noisetanks jacked into the power supply to power the stadium for the death ball tournament causing the blackout in the process.

He didn't make the games. Either way, whether jsrf was originally intended to be a sequel or not is irrelevant, I want a 3rd game that expands the universe further with the theories in this video.
but jsrfs team says its more of a spiritual successor instead of a direct sequal so its sort of in a different universe which explains a lot of this stuff

Um, I kinda already did something like that with the Goji/Gouji thing. And as for the GGs having kids, I can't say that your wrong. That would be a much better explanation for the time jump as well as the changing of some GGs names. I just find it odd that so many parents would name their kids the same thing. I'm personally sticking with the "A few years into the future" theory, but only because it helps with so many other questions. Sorry if it seems like I'm "dissing" your ideas
Q: Why can only rudies see the spraycans? A: During the tutorial portion with Gum, they speak about how the cans are the soul of the street and how you "can't do graffiti if you got no soul, you know what I mean" so perhaps the want/need for the cans makes them visible. Q: Who informed Hayashi that the GGs where at the Rokkaku Expo? A: In one of the beginning cutscenes or the game, DJK, in reference to the Rokkaku Police, says, "You better believe they're listening in on this broadcast." So it would make sense that when DJK started commentating Death Ball, and literally said that it's taking place at the Rokkaku Expo Stadium right outside of 99th street, that the police were simply listening in.
I remember gum talking about the soul of the street and all that other soul crap. The best theory I've seen for the cans being scattered is from AngryEchidna. He says that the cans are like rings from sonic and that they're not actually sprinkled across the level. Sorry if it seems like I'm dismissing your theory as null, it's just that the spraycans really are just gameplay elements rather than story ones. As for the Hayashi theory, it's the first I've ever heard on matter and I think it's the best. You're answer actually made me feel foolish. Kinda like, "why didn't I think of that". This was just something I thought up a few minutes, so if there's any holes, that's why 😂

I have noticed it, but I deem it unimportant. JSRF has many "lazy" features found within it. Such as A.KU.MU. & Poison Jam sharing dances because they're both very big models

I think that in jsr, they are actually children. Like around 12-15. Everytime you play a level the levels, they always mention the protagonists as kids. "When you find those kids, I don't care what happens, just nab em" as an example. I believe combo was the oldest of them all, since he had a deep voice in jsr and even says "yo kid". In jsrf, they are in their late teens/early adult hood, around 18-21. Hence why some characters like gum and rhythm have revealing outfits and what not. Combo is bald because he's older than everyone else. This mean professor K had the time to become old and have gray hair. That's about 10+ years. So we can say he's like 30 in jsr but in jsrf he's pushing 40. That's what I think is the truth. Even tho jsrf isn't a sequel, still good to think about.
10 years is reasonable, but the ages seem off. Everyone appears to be later teens in JSR. K could be around 40 in JSR, then about 50 in JSRF. I know it's possible, but most people don't grey that much by 40. Then the GGs could be in their mid to late 20s. Makes sense to me anyway.
But it says that on the beat statue hes 17 (its classic beat btw) and future is in a different universe/dimension
Beat isn't really THE main character I don't think. He's just the mascot!
I like to think of the GGs as the main character, not just everyone in the gang, but the gang itself as well, the name of the GGs and it’s growth.
Good theory. I think the wikia article says that JSRF takes place in an alternate universe/continuity.
Right I've been working on this, the noise tanks are intertwined, look at the sillouete of zero beat in the first cutscene, it looks more like beat, or more 'human', thats because thats an earlier version of zero beat, an earlier version of nt3000 possibly and the blackout was caused by rokkaku when testing the tower, it probably takes alot of power to contain the devils contract. We then see zero beat 1 (later models) in the cutscene in chuo street, fight 2 and 3 but there are 4, look at the dance of the one we see on chuo street, its like an advanced beat dance, so maybe he was reprogrammed with a new, more intimidating dance in 1 2 and 3, as we meet 3 before fighting the train and he is performing that dance when we see him. I dont count 5 as canon though.
But more important than all this, what the heck even is he?

I would say that's future take place around 5 or so years after orginal as the characters look aged up but still young. K's hair could be a dye job. Yo-yo and cube look considerably older then their orginal incarnations. Same for combo and beat
I played this game with my brothers and I always spent the whole game but they never let me play the end i was addicted to play jsrf
That is really cruel. The ending is one of the few fully realized challenges in the whole game. Sadly, it's not perfect, but it's far better than the original final boss in JSR

Np Atom ^^. One of the big one's that makes a lot of sense was Goji vs Gouji, and the connection with the Noise Tanks. A few others that I liked were Beat being an alien, and Yoyo lying.
Also to answer a bit of your unanswered questions:
Q:Why can rudies see the spray cans?
A:Because they're the one's who listen to JSR, the Music allows them to open their minds~ lol And who knows, maybe the graffiti souls are why they can tune into the JSR in the first place :d no coincidence as to why gouji tower has the same graffiti souls esque shape to broadcast his message.
Q:Why is Rhyth on the building?
A:She's looking for/watching Poison Jam. She thinks they're cute if I remember correctly.
Q:How big was the time jump?
A:Not as big as you think. The main problem is thinking that DJ is old. In this era where characters like Yoyo and Combo dye their hair, it's not far fetch to say that DJ didn't do the same.
That's some really cool insight, so cool that I may make a followup video someday:)

Didn't the Jet Set Radio instruction manual _explicitly_ list Beat's age as 17? Or was that just in Japan? Because just about every source I see online says that JSR-era Beat is 17; there's no ambiguity or controversy about it. It's Professor's K's age that's unknown.
Probably, I've never actually seen the Original JSR manual, but I'm definitely checking it out now. [EDIT] I've found the manual online and it didn't have any AGEs for the characters. However I did learn that K has been in Shibuya for 13 years as well as where the GGs original garage was located. Thanks for the tip

Um, I kinda already did something like that with the Goji/Gouji thing. And as for the GGs having kids, I can't say that your wrong. That would be a much better explanation for the time jump as well as the changing of some GGs names. I just find it odd that so many parents would name their kids the same thing. I'm personally sticking with the "A few years into the future" theory, but only because it helps with so many other questions. Sorry if it seems like I'm "dissing" your ideas

A: During the tutorial portion with Gum, they speak about how the cans are the soul of the street and how you "can't do graffiti if you got no soul, you know what I mean" so perhaps the want/need for the cans makes them visible.
Q: Who informed Hayashi that the GGs where at the Rokkaku Expo?
A: In one of the beginning cutscenes or the game, DJK, in reference to the Rokkaku Police, says, "You better believe they're listening in on this broadcast." So it would make sense that when DJK started commentating Death Ball, and literally said that it's taking place at the Rokkaku Expo Stadium right outside of 99th street, that the police were simply listening in.
I remember gum talking about the soul of the street and all that other soul crap. The best theory I've seen for the cans being scattered is from AngryEchidna. He says that the cans are like rings from sonic and that they're not actually sprinkled across the level. Sorry if it seems like I'm dismissing your theory as null, it's just that the spraycans really are just gameplay elements rather than story ones. As for the Hayashi theory, it's the first I've ever heard on matter and I think it's the best. You're answer actually made me feel foolish. Kinda like, "why didn't I think of that". Your outside the box thinking gave a heavily supported theory that I believe may be fact:) Great Insight my man!

It's also possible DJ Professor K dyed his hair white. Most of the GG's were in there mid-to-late teens (some being in there early twenties) so 24 years would be quite the jump. Personally, I think JSRF takes place less than a decade later, making the GG's in there early-to-mid 20's, and DJ Prof. K in his late 30's-to-early 40's??? (assuming he was in his 30's in JSR.) Also the technology in the series might be evolving fastly, explaining how the time gap takes place less than a decade later. This was just something I thought up a few minutes, so if there's any holes, that's why 😂

I have noticed it, but I deem it unimportant. JSRF has many "lazy" features found within it. Such as A.KU.MU. & Poison Jam sharing dances because they're both very big models
