Yeah, those signs pointing to Hoorn, Heerhugowaard, Alkmaar and Den Helder was perfect for triangulation. You're somewhere in between all those easy to find cities.
This made me realize how much harder this is for people from abroad. This would've been a fairly easy round for me, I've gotten much unluckier in my NL only maps. Names like Hoogeveen, Hoorn, Den Helder, etc. are all fairly recognisable among dutchies.
The number 1 on the leaderboard is a very good NL player. He does a lot of Netherlands speedruns. In the Netherlands we do have a lot of double placenames, but nothing beats the US with their Springfields ;) I do think you got some nice signs with big cities but yeah if you don't know they are big then it will be hard to scan for them. Shoutout Limburg sticker! Was cool to see you playing my little country :D
I knew all these little towns and places, but I am kinda cheating because I am Dutch 😀 Fun fact: the worst sign you can see in Geo-guessing The Netherlands is "Heikant", there are 19 places called Heikant. 🤣🤣🤣
Ravenstein is only a small village of no importance. However, it does have a railway station, so that‘s why relatively a lot of Dutch people who‘ve never been there, might still recognize the name.
"I don't see Meppel", scrolls over it multiple times "I don't see fun4kids", right there to the right of McDonalds You were making it really hard for yourself 🤣 Rough guide, plenty of exceptions: If it ends with -um, it's usually in the north. If it starts or ends with veen, it's usually in the north or west. If it ends with -lo or -loo, it's usually in the east. If it starts with Maas-, it's usually in the south-east
One hint is gas stations are typically near the edge of town. That's the first thing I go look for because a sign with the towns name is usually right there. And the closest intersection typically with pointers to nearby towns which can help you triangulate your position in relation to those places.
"why are there multiple names for the same thing" well, most of these places were named before the netherlands was a singular country so all the different dukes named stuff after geological features and where they were. a big forest to the south of their home? zuidwolde, a duke living 30km south of the guy, "theres a big forest south of here" zuidwolde, now there is 2 zuidwoldes
Nice me too. We have had once some visitors (before navigation) that didn't pay attention on the road and did end up in Zuidwolde in Groningen instead of Drenthe.
The second round would've been way easier if you were familiar with the Netherlands. I knew it was going to take long just because you very obviously went the wrong way. Hoogeveen would've given you a ton of information if you knew more about the Netherlands as well. Drenthe in general is a very difficult province as it is a lot of empty space and doesn't really have big cities, so that's unlucky.
Zuidwolde just means "south woods". Getting a fast 25k in the Netherlands is really a matter of knowing where places are. And not landing on a country lane or in the middle of a suburb.
The sight was pointing to Hoornd AND the crematorium, not to the crematorium of Hoorn. Even if it was, why would it specify that if you are already in Hoorn? lmao
Lol, once I thought it's relatively easy, yet I often meet Dutch people, especially southerners and westerners I have to explain in detail how to get to Hoogeveen, to many there's just nothing between Zwolle and Groningen. It's not really that small a place, though Fluitenberg truly is the kind of 2 roads and a ditch "village" Americans wouldn't even recognize as a suburb. What I mean to say, it's apparently not even that easy for the dutch folk who pride themselves of their country they know nothing about.
If the signs only point to relatively small places and theres a lot of open space, you are in a less populated area of the country haha. You also scrolled right past hoogeveen at some point. And don't you think any of those signs would have pointed to the full blown CITY of Groningen if that was the right Zuidwolde? And Meppel was right in your view as well 😂
Obviously uve never seen Somalian village names. Literally all the same. Im NL we dont use the same names that often. U can find duplicate names in any country. The amount of villages in NL is actually comparable to England
You see trees and narrow roads, that's got to be the east of the country. Hoogeveen is one of the larger towns in Drente, although that's not saying much. Is an American complaining about other countries reusing too many names? How many Springfields does the US have?
As a Dutch person, this was both funny and slightly frustrating to look at haha. Kudos to you for staring at the map for so long! GG
The first one was for me haha. i knew immediately from the roads it was Drenthe. fair play to him though!
@@JJimsky Especially when he said he was looking for Meppel and then completely ignored it on his screen 1 second later.
@@JJimskyim from there hahah
1:10 the cheese is named after the city, not the other way around lol
If you were in Hoorn, the signs aren;t gonna point to Hoorn now, are they?😅

Leef je in Drenthe?
I believe they try to put at least 1 regional city on those signs for people who are not from the region so they can navigate easier
sorry dude but the signs reaaaaally aren’t the problem here
wrm de haat bro chillll

Bruh, america has 67 springfields...
I knew all these little towns and places, but I am kinda cheating because I am Dutch 😀

I'm Dutch and I'd never heard of Ravenstein. Clearly my loss, though.
Ravenstein is only a small village of no importance. However, it does have a railway station, so that‘s why relatively a lot of Dutch people who‘ve never been there, might still recognize the name.
That's a star fortress city, those were very popular and very much needed in the 16th and 17th century.
"I don't see Meppel", scrolls over it multiple times

Yooooooo I see NL I click I like

Incredible guess at 13:48. Netherlands is one of the most underrated countries in Europe

The city of Springfield wants to have a word.
Let's go NL! always fun to hear people from abroad trying to pronounce our Dutch placenames.
I loved how you pronounced "Zuidwolde" .. The village I actually grew up in. I still live nearby so I recognized the region immediately
Nice me too. We have had once some visitors (before navigation) that didn't pay attention on the road and did end up in Zuidwolde in Groningen instead of Drenthe.
2:45 rumble strip so you know you re about to end in a soft muddy grass
1:34 It is pronounced like : Railwike
Greetings from Terneuzen!!! Didn’t except to see my city on here haha!
0:47 it is legit! Its set by Wise Gongus and he uploaded his POV to RUclips!
This funny. We got 2 zuidwolde's one in the province of Groningen and one in the province of Drenthe. It really is tricky haha
The second one is in Drenthe and Hoogeveen is not small
5:18 it said Pesse on the map and that was a town on one of the first signs you saw D:

Love the video, subbed and liked! Thanks for doing my country❤
the first frame of round 1 had 5 citys on the board xd
Zuidwolde just means "south woods".
Getting a fast 25k in the Netherlands is really a matter of knowing where places are. And not landing on a country lane or in the middle of a suburb.
Clicked to see if there would be any recognizable places for me as a Dutch person. Turns out Schagen is in here, the city I actually live xD
Broooo Ive worked at that McDonald's in the 5th round for 4 years😂
I love the music when you searching. What's the song called? Is it on RUclips?
Yes it is this song here :) ruclips.net/video/S01WrH0T2iU/видео.html
The sight was pointing to Hoornd AND the crematorium, not to the crematorium of Hoorn. Even if it was, why would it specify that if you are already in Hoorn? lmao
We also have a place called Zeeland that is not in the province or a town called America or Klein Zwitserland.

"Hello everyone, and welcome to another video. Today, we're getting the 4th best score in Geoguessr on the Netherlands map."
great video! groeten uit het mooie Groningen!
Dude....Hoogeveen was visible quite often on the map, Meppel too...you really need to look a bit better...but unlucky with multiple Zuidwolde's 🤣🤣🤣
Ah, the Zooydwoldy trap.
Next do Czechia and Slovakia(me like gauda cheese)
just do nl again and i'll watch lol
This was a nice evenly distributed seed!
as a dutch person I got the second one in about 1.5 minutes
Me still on Albania after 5 months I gotta get back on explorer mode and grind
Goated country, goated content.
8:22 mfw Springfield
I live there and I speak Dutch
Gouda cheese is one of the best
Voldee instead of Wolde?

Roowidzjk? 😂
Terneuzen!! You started 2 streets from where I was born. yikes!
it is funny to see you struggel so hard voor you so easy for me :P
was born in there :P
and i know there are 2 zuidwolde's :P
Hello!!!!!
And also a question: Are people in Netherlands flat earthers?
They have never seen a hill :D
We're certainly flatlanders
platteland ;)
@@Icy2Pwe have a mountain! Well, a quarter of a mountain. Vaalserberg is 340 meters above sea level.

Why do you say Gooda, it is Gouda.
He even butchered pronouncing Gouda, it got worse from there on in jeeezzz.
