  • In this lecture, Kate Manne, associate professor at the Sage School of Philosophy at Cornell University, offers her definition of misogyny, as distinct from sexism, as laid out in her 2017 book, “Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny” (Oxford University Press, 2018). She then turns to the substantive nature of misogyny and provides examples, including violence by incels, online media harassment, healthcare disparities, and the difficulty women have attaining leadership positions.
The lecture, held September 29, 2022, was sponsored by the Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J. Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture at Holy Cross.

I've read Professor Manne's book and wish I could've been her student when I was at Cornell. Would love to hear/read how she would imagine a society free of misogyny and its police force. Such a vision stretches the limit of my creativity.

Oh, to have been in that audience! I would've asked a question about how religion upholds patriarchal norms within communities. I'm looking forward to Prof. Manne's new book. So many concepts to think about and explore!

The way she is explaining is easy to understand. The book wasn't. It was too hard for me to read unfortunately.
