I bet that platform will be a fun place to be on a windy day! I was amazed that the 3/4" thick plates I welded on the bottom of my crane supports actually drew slightly concave from welding them on. Weld shrinkage can really get ya if you don't allow for it.
All of the threads sticking up from your jay bolts make a really good trip point. I would cut those threads flush with the face of the nuts so you have less to catch your toe on when your up on that platform.

Great video and project. I have to tell you though, that platform would have to be 20' x 20' with 5' high rail guards for me to get on it. I prefer the platform to be as wide as the tower is tall. Yes, I am scared of heights!
People who are scared of heights are just displaying their basic high degree of intelligence. As we say in the construction business, "it isn't the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the bottom".
I see how you have trouble with wooden platforms/decking over in Florida. I recommend that you try Trex (or other composite wood decking) it stands up to the environment and termites hate the stuff. The best part is that it never needs painting; YEAH. You can build the structure with t-angle and screw the decking in place. By the time that wears out, it will be a problem for the next generation to solve.
Looking good Jim! I noticed that you may not want to turn around and have a seat on the platform once you climb the wire steps...can you tell me why I think that? Hee hee, you'll see it before you lift it up, of that I'm confident. I hope you folks had a Very Merry Christmas and will have a nice relaxing finish to 2015. Also wishing you and the family all a Happy New Year to come...Aloha, Chuck
bsb0011 You see the stud poking up too then? Looks like it might make you sing Soprano for life if it got you in the right...or wrong spot, depending on how you look at things :D Aloha and Happy New Years to you as well...Chuck
I made something similar for my 60 footer prior to standing. its made out of 1 1/4 angle and expanded metal. mine has a ladder going up one side as opposed to wire steps up a leg. I have an air pump on top to aerate the pond. it's making squeaking noises now so I'll have to go up to service soon. Not my favorite place to go!
Great series; I'm looking forward to the next one. By the way, here in Northeast MO, wasps are a problem. Closing the ends of the tubes would give them less places to nest; and if they still nest there, they will be out in the open where you can get a better shot with the spray. *$#@?/%^^ wasps. Carry on.
Subbed on the strength of this video. I hope to move to a bigger house out in the country in the future and I'd really like to have a wind mill. Are you going to use yours for power generation? Or to pump water?
Sir, Nice clear vid and explanation. Looks like a cool project. When you climb the tower will you be using a safety harness and rope? All the best, Eric
+esoomreltna I am a fulltime Firefighter/paramedic for the city of Orlando Fire dept. I am assigned to the Ladder truck and, I am a rope rescue technician. So to answer your question, You bet your rappelling harness I will be safetied to the tower! It might even be fun to rappel from the top. lol
Great and thanks for being safe! Your experience will take care of you AND you'll be around to post more cool vids. Thank you very much and best of luck! Regards, Eric

Hi mate. Looking good. Not long now. All the best to you and yours. Marcel.

Looking Good!!!
Great video and I agree, the wood we have today rots too fast. For my rebuilds I always encourage the customer to go back up with a steel platform.
'The wood we have today', much inferior to the wood we had 40 years ago, truth.
Really like your videos, keep doing what you're doing and the subscribers will come.

+William Hardin, I get that it's a bit....narrow up there. Good thing I trust the welds...LOL

Great job Jim !!! Looking good... whose legs did we see dangling in some of the shots ?? and LOVE the T-shirt
Those are Lukes legs....he likes to watch me work, unless I'm welding, that scares him.
Jim , Win are you going to stand it up ! ( Good video ) CAT
+Catfish Gray , Keep watching..... It's coming soon.

Do you ever convert your windmill to electricity or no of anyone Who does. And I would like to buy a platform that you have designed for the Windmill
Hey Jim, I like your videos, keep them coming. I'm also in the Orlando area and I'm looking for a good place to buy metal. Any recommendations?
+Tod Alexander Try Iron Age metals in Lockhart ask for Heidi, tell her Jim from DoRite sent you. Or try Florida metalcraft in Wintergarden.
Ok
Im using Avasva instructions to make it and I do it already :)
should cap your ends off for a better look.
