    Aja is such an OG Brooklynite. She will NEVER lose. She knows how to hustle and do what she needs to do to survive. If she has to walk dogs, she's gonna walk dogs! I'm glad she's in a healthy relationship and seems happy. She's such an incredible performer and I hope the powers that be start booking her again. She totally deserves it. I booked Aja for a show in St. Johns Newfoundland in 2019 and I have to say, she blew my mind that night. She performed live music and me and everyone else there legit went insane that night! We were expecting a drag show but got a full on concert! She was so amazing and so friendly. A true professional from start to finish. I watched this whole thing and was so happy to get to know her a little more. Thank you Matt! A highlight of my life to meet her and work with her in person. You really are an ICON Aja! • @theemosqueda
    @theemosqueda 10 месяцев назад +159

    Aja is in the category of artist and some Drag Race audiences just don’t get it. They want their “characters.” Add the fact the Aja is a woman of color, is protective of her craft and her culture which a lot of queen$ just appropriate, she’s tough and speaks her mind. Then you put that through the Drag Race fandom, which is largely white cis, Aja is often seen as “aggressive.” Add that fact that we watched Aja transition on television… this creates distance from cis audiences and it's is not fair. Those people are just intellectually lazy. IFYKYK, Aja is THAT B*. You see it in how she authentically expresses herself in her art; the music is on point, the performances are point, her craft is on point. She’s real and sometimes that just does not resonate. She pays homage to those before her, not just swaggerjacks them. She should be touring the world with her art like other queens. Aja, YOU ARE LOVED and ADORED.

    I really think people need to remember how young some of the contestants are on RPDR. I don’t watch it, honestly the fan base became so toxic and I couldn’t stand the way they were tearing down the girls. I’m 44, and I can’t imagine All my growing pains, insecurities, struggles out their for the world to judge and loudly attack. You can absolutely disagree with someone, not like someone, but do you have to tell a 20 something on RPDR that you hate their personality? You don’t like the way they walk, talk or their style, so you go on to twitter or insta and tear them down? It’s so easy now to give every nasty thought in your head a voice.

    From a social media perspective, I don't see her any where near aggressive... especially compared to some other queens. I would go watch an Aja show over many of the shows of Drag Race winners. She has personality and is multi-talented. Go support your favorite queens because the industry - no matter what people say - is still all about the coin and money... and you must be popular with the fandom otherwise the industry will not want you because you aren't a money-maker. You just get the sense that Aja is going to be just fine moving forward.

    Aja has a lot soulfulness to her, listening to her speak about her neurodivergent conditions makes sense why she lacked the filter and wherewithal necessary to deal with the shady politics of the RDR show,; Rupaul cannot deal with those he can’t control or deems unpredictable, therefore he was never going to fully extend the benefits and opportunities of being a RDR queen to her. And that’s a mark that will follow you throughout the industry, because she’s blessed with limitless talent, nerve and uniqueness, she’s painfully underrated unappreciated

    I really enjoyed this video Matt! I didn’t know much about Aja but I’m glad i got to see this video first to see who she is, without all the extra stuff. I really like and admire her. What a strong woman!

    Thank you, Matt, for doing this segment on Aja. I agree with what so many here have said, that she is genuine and real and more "serious". She should be allowed to bring her true self and be appreciated for it! I'm so glad to see you do some folks from the Ballroom culture! Also really glad to see you do part of the segment on her practice of Afro-Caribbean spirituality!

    That was so cool to see that side of her. I honestly would like to see her in a future all star season and non elimination with a lot of the season 9 girls too. Seeing her, Peppermint, Valentina and a bunch of them interact with each other again in a less stressful format would be fun to watch.

    Girl, I’ve always loved you. I give readings since I was 8years old and usually hate other readers cause they are fake as f^*k but you…I feel you, you’re the real thing and just watching you babes, you’re real. I always took your side. I feel you, I feel the genuine love you have for the world and growing. Keep your beautiful head up, girl. You got this. You’re a strong woman, my love. Look at you, look what you’ve done. You’re doing it.

    This was such a lovely surprise! Aja looks gorgeous and glowed up in all areas of life! She really seems to be grounded and knows who she is, even in a sacred way. I knew Drag Race picks its favorites and gave Aja the villain edit, but it's wonderful to see her be herself and genuinely happy and working (I love her honesty about being in the trenches, and wish more people with a little fame would admit they have to hustle/struggle!). Her boyfriend and friends are fab, and I especially like what Nyella said about "women of trans experience!" I'm a word nerd, and believe trans women are women, so I think the idea that we are all women, but some of us have a trans experience of that journey just feels so accurate to me!
    Also, Matt, your filmmaking just keeps getting broader and more sophisticated as you go. Bravo!

    Aja has always been a fave of mine. Ppl will stay away when you're so open & stands up for themselves. You know you can't get over on them but also some ppl get nervous around that kind of personality. But I love Aja & can't wait to see her in like 10 years. She's going to be even more Amazing as a person.
