I was showing this video to my friends and telling them that man was my dad! When my real dad found out he was pissed. But then he saw the video and suddenly this guy became my grandfather.
A large manu would ask the consumer for hundreds more than this can be made out of timber and hardware. It probably did not pass their insurance lawyers review, maybe nixxed as someone would eventually drop this on themselves or scratch their precious automobile? 😃
Dear Mr. Skalkin. 👍👌👏 Oh WOW, simply fantastic! What an ingenious and inexpensive solution. Kudos. Thanks a lot for making showing recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health in particular.
That's this weekend's project sorted. As the years roll by, my SOT fishing kayak is getting a bit heavy for me now. Not any more. Thanks for a brilliant idea.
Folks with a bit of imagination and smarts come up with ingenious stuff to accomplish tasks - especially when they know no one will be around to lend them a hand. I've got all kinds of "helps" for my boat to aid with launching & landing. Little gizmos that make the job easier. Around the home, too. The example in this video is very elegant.
there's an older video posted 15 years ago, same concept but this one is a lot simpler look up - boat climbs to top by single hand Thanx for the upload
jajajja, I copied the method for my sunfish (120#) and ended up with my back destroyed. I tried loading it up from both, the side and the back of my small station wagon car, from the back it was indeed much easier and manageable (I found an alternative video in YT, the idea was similar but different steps). After a year and a half loading and unloading I quit and ended up buying a aluminum trailer. People around me just stopped and checked what maneuvers I did to load/unload my boat on/from my roof's car... I do not regret but having passed 50 I am not anymore in such venue. This video was the first one I followed and did not work for the weight and size of my boat, however I am appreciated to the author and it was a great experience.
This has been posted for 9 years and it's just now making it on my feed?! That's a pretty awesome setup, now I'm going to try it. And to think, I've been picking it up trying not to cause any damage to the boat or roof
Such a great design. I've shared the vid on a kayak fishing forum. A few more views may come your way and a few more folk may use this method. Well done for creating and sharing.
A very straightforward, elegantly simple, and low-cost solution to a problem. If Thule or Yakima racks see this video they can make an over-priced product and a fortune out of this fellow's brilliance.
Warning: If you want to try the same thing with a canal barge. Make sure you empty the cupboards and fuel tank first! I forgot, and there were broken plates and diesel EVERYWHERE!! 👍🇬🇧
Parker craft boats sold a roof rack to do the same, years ago.. Draw back, salt water dripping onto car, stones , grit, onto windshield, and possible damage.. Having said that, not everyone wants a trailer and the cost of, just to sometimes use a small, light boat.. I used a 14 foot Alloy for sea fishing, great boat, only draw back if caught by wind. We launched off shingle Beach into surf often 1 - 2 mtrs, 3 cray pots, plus a set nett.. Those days long gone. I buy my fish, can get the type I want, and stay dry.. Not as much fun , But.. Cheers from NEW ZEALAND.. Go well there.. Tight lines for all.
That is similar in principal to a gal slide on boat rack system that my Dad put on the family car in the 60s to transport a runabout, then later, a sailing dinghy. I inherited the rack & used it on my early cars for other small boats & canoes. It was a good system that even as kids, we were able to get our junior dinghy on the car while Mum & Dad dealt with the trailer dinghy. I still have the rack but it only mounts on the old cars with gutters, so I can't use it anymore unfortunately.
I literally was going to post my aluminum boat for sale after this weekend because I don't have a way to haul it without help! This is my solution. Thanks 👍🏼
@@ISkalkin Thanks for posting! My boat has been in the family for 25 years but it just sits there because I don't have a trailer. I'm seriously so excited to try this out 😁 Have a great day!
Good idea. I'm going to buy a couple 2x4s and make one for my boat I just bought. I only got the boat on my roof without this because my boat is super light. The boat bounces around too much on the roof because it doesn't fit the rack right and I can't get it tight enough so the boards will correct that.
@@ISkalkin It's Korean, Google Translate made this out of it: "Je hebt echt geweldige ideeën. Het is een eenvoudige structuur, maar je hebt het comfortabel gedaan. I've just been inspired to come up with some type of a wheeled device that I can connect to the front of my car. This way, I can push my boat everywhere I go.
Omg!!! Been trying to work this out in my head about getting my enormous mobility scooter onto my car roof for a while….its like RUclips reads my mind or my comments on other channels 😊 🎉🎉🎉 I’m on my way!!!
I just found the solution for transporting my boat! Give this man a salute!
I am older and have a big heavy canoe. No way I could get it on my van by myself. That is a neat solution. 😊
Just need to hinge those supports so they fold along side the roof rack, and you’ll be one step less…..
The kids playing, families enjoying the day. All seemingly unaware they're in the presence of one of the greatest minds of our time.

That might be overstating it a bit...
Pure genius
Oh please. 🙄😂🙄
Now thats a solution.
I don't even own a boat but I watched this because I knew this man built something clever.

*HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA*
Wow, you both have found your relative. I'm so glad!
Very good.
Hell I would have told you to call him your uncle AND I had taught him how to make that rig !!! 😜😎
Hi, I'm your long lost cousin.
No doubt that some company saw this and is now mass producing it. Claiming it as their own.
Well done! 👏👏
Actually about 5 years ago I sent this video to Thule - a leading ski-box producer from Sweden. They never replied and never produced.
@@ISkalkin try with VW! 😀

The key is the simplicity. Brilliant!
@@jeffhouseman1120 I was thinking of a couple of rollers somewhere and a winch or levers but... nope, simplicity here is key.

Thanks for the comment guy in the video

Now that's one smart and efficient setup. I've managed to get a fibreglass canoe on and off a car roof myself, but not with the same ease as here.
The simplicity and versatility of this is awesome!
Absolutely. As human beings we tend to complicate things. I do my best to live by the acronym;

Simple

Backing a boat trailer is a lot easier.

That's pretty slick. Using mechanical advantage to raise the boat up to the level of the roof.
This went 1,000 times better than I expected it to go. Bravo, very clever
Out of this world! I loved it!
Thank you and greetings from Portugal!
Glad you enjoyed it! Sending love to Portugal.
I made one exactly like this to load my 14ft aluminum boat solo. Works great, thanks!

He should ve made those arms telescopic so he doesn y need to remove them once the boat is loaded.. probably on the next version. Very nice job

Or wondering why he just didn't buy a trailer?

Build a ramp, drive onto the roof then climb down. Or, buy a trailer.
Would it be worthwhile to have those slide rails-slide into storage on the roof? (rather than removing)
BRILLIANT!!
