  • Came across my original Hornby 110 DMU set from 1994, it has a missing motor , so it now can be utilised in a six car formation.
Comparing it to the older version , both Margate made .

I got one of these in Blue and Grey way back in christmas 1984, and as i was at my uncle and aunts house up in manchester while up there i managed to see some real class 110s and travel on them too, happy memories.

I remember the Engine Shed, was a bit of a schlep and more a danger a certain South London team supporting young lad being found behind enemy lines over in East London lol Lucky for me there was the E London tube line making it a breeze to Whitechapel then round a bit on the tube. Beatties in Holborn I used to nose about as well and got all my Mamod from there. There was a holy grail place on the Croxley Green line on the bridge there, ol' Clive Sinclair had his computer shop there for years so a win win for me too :) I got mugged by Beatties a couple times with dummy bogied engines so happens to us all sadly, took me mum in and she kicked up a stink both times and got my money back lol Lewisham Beatties never tried it on as they let you see the motors etc before purchase but Holborn were horrible.

I had this set but swapped it for a hornby West Country Pacific. I run DCC and I know I could have converted it but it kept stalling due to lack of pick ups. If hornby ever re tool it is buy it. I remember the Engine shed when it was bristling with stock and a old lady worked there . Then saw it’s slow demise as the shop gradually ran down the stock. Sad to see...

Alan Traish I’m hoping to get a motor to fit the static set and get it going . Ken and June stubley ran the engine shed in Leytonstone for many years since 1984 , Dave took it over and it went down the pan as he geared the shop toward war gaming and slot cars , he did a runner with the books and people money in the end , he died a few years ago , ken died about 10 years ago , June a few years ago . I was their first customer when they opened , and then every Saturday with pocket money .

Actually now I’ve watched your videos on the legendary Dennis “Biffo” Bostock wonder if you knew of another character on the Victoria line? He was a driver and he always announced the train as it came into the station swinging the microphone around on the 67 stock. You know of him?

Alan Traish can’t say I do , but all I can see is when you work on the railway you come across some right characters, you couldn’t make it up !
