I'm addicted to these kits at this point. Just ordered this one, R2+3P0 and Boba Fetts Slave I. Working on Vader at the moment. I don't think I've seen better detail in any Sci-Fi kits
Genius! That’s exactly what I was thinking…. copper foil (of which, of course, I have multiple rolls in many gauges) hahaha. Brother, NOW THIS, is how you do a build video! THANK YOU!
wow this a great video, ive had a lot of trouble with fiber optics before because no one really shows how to drill the holes properly, but now i think i know how to do it better, so thanks!
Backyard looks festive ;) Welcome back my friend. Hope you had a good hiatus. Happy B-day to your wife, Tina. May you both continue to thrive in your creative worlds of model building and home decor. The wind is now in your sails. That Luke 3-d printed head looks amazing !! The cockpit goes w/out saying too each displaying such impeccable skill.
Thank you. With the heavy Santa Anna winds we got here back in October, they completely ripped apart and destroyed our gazebo in the back yard. Bummer. We'll have to get another this spring.
@@modelsbychris To re-build is to replenish what came before. May it even be more extravagant this time around. On a more positive, more up-lifting note, the mention of 'Santa Ana winds' reminds me of that Steely Dan song, "Babylon Sisters" in which the lyric "here comes those Santa Ana winds Again" romanticizes the end of a perfect day depicting sunny Southern CA as the backdrop to the story circa 1980 :) What an end to an era! Meanwhile ... the Empire was in the midst of re-building the Death-Star and Yoda was still perfecting his stew recipe stowed away in his Dagoban hobbit-like abode.
@@modelsbychris I was sorry to hear about the wind taking down the gazebo, certainly I hope the best for the intended project come Spring. On another note, I sent you a business-related inquiry using your gmail account. TY :)
Thanks. That Polydata one was horrible. Same with my Solo kit as well. I don't believe they had rights to the likeness when those were made. So I'm getting a new head for the Solo one to. I'll post once I eventually do.
@@modelsbychris Thank you for your prompt reply. yes the problem is that the circuit with the small battery does not light up. but with a 2032 battery it works. but space is very tight. but it is possible that i used led that was too strong 😬
@@etiennewick1904 Ah. I don't use battery. I use a 5v usb cable. Too much lighting for a battery and with my Trinket board. I haven't finished the build yet, but am close. It'll all be seen in my upcoming videos.
Love all the information about how you set up the Fiber Optic lighting. That's a kit I have wanted for quite some time, but it's just so damned expensive. That said, is there really no glass in the cockpit canopy?
It comes with glass for the cockpit. For my lit cockpit ships, I choose not to put the glass in, because it can make it difficult to see inside to to reflections, and imperfections in the plastic, causing a warped underwater type of look. They did this as well with the real filming miniatures on Star Wars, because of reflections in the cockpit glass. None of the filming models have glass either. But it absolutely comes with glass.
@ohgosh3439 the main reason being, that when you flare them, it creates a larger point of light. I try to keep them as small as possible for more scale accuracy.
This is my favorite fighter in all of star wars. By the way, that rear part of the cockpit module isn't a turbine, it's part of the cockpit gyro-stabilization system. I'm so annoyed that i missed this when you published it. RUclips's been really stupid about notifications lately. NOTE: Depending on what source you're looking at, it's also said that the aft bit of the cockpit module is a sublight engine for the escape pod. According to retconed descriptions in certain resources (most cross section and technical guides are non-canon anyway) the entire cockpit module pops off as an escape pod. In earlier materials, the B-Wing featured a standard pilot ejection system, like every other fighter.
Yea, I just called it that without checking to see what it really was. Obviously too me now it's not, since the 4 engines are below. I should've checked my manual first, but oh well. 🤨 Video is long done now.
@@modelsbychris no worries man, just geeking out a bit.. When you think about it, the latest stuff about the whole thing being an escape pod is kinda silly. with all the other stuff crammed into that space, there's literally no room for fuel.
Only criticism I have is that the LEDs are a tad bright. If you were to scale that up, those instrument lights would be like halogen/HPS for brightness. Throw a small resistor in to lower the brightness a touch and I'd say perfection. :D
Wow. Skills!!! I watched this because I love b-wings - I'm not a modeller. Now I'll have to watch all your stuff.

Excellent solve for lighting the cockpit! Nice work!
Good to see you back on the models bench, Chris, we missed so much your amazing skills !!!!
Brilliant work and a great mod for getting the power to the led and still being able to rotate it, well done.
Great work. 👍🏻
OMG ! i've been waiting for this video with so much anticipation, i didn't waist a second to put a 'like' even before playing the video !
Frank Zappa I been looking forward to this too, ha ha.
Looking good and great idea for the lighting connection.
Clever work with the copper tape. I was wondering how you were going to achieve that.
Great call on the head swap

Amazing job! more videos please.
Brilliant, well done sir
Finally a video in my recommendation thatI'm actually interested in. Fantastic work! Liked and subscribed!
Great work as always Christopher.......glad to see you 'back in action' LOL :-)
Nice work! Can you explain how, an in what way the power supply is consequence can be guaranted? And possibly a sketch of the circuit? Thx ✌️
I don't have a sketch of the circuit. What do you mean by guaranteed? That the power supply won't fail?

My Tina is 50 too, at least for a few more months. Hope your Tina took it better than mine did HAHA. Cheers

do you have to flare the tips of the fibers so they don't come out
@@ohgosh3439 I don't, no. I just glue them from the back side

great job, can't wait for next video..will you be adding the pilot ? hope the Mrs. is feeling better.
Yea, I'll do the pilot. Usually I do those first. I just got so involved in the cockpit that I forgot about the pilot honestly.
I was going to ask about the pilot too. Can't wait for the next one. No rush though, family first.

awesome work as always Chris. did you gloss coat it before adding the decals
Yes, I did. Then flat coat after
Awesome! So I take it that the tolerances in the kit are tight enough for the two copper tape layers make good contact?
Looks like it. I have a plan in attaching the copper tape to the body that should make good contact. Future video
Just an FYI, that's not a "turbine". That's the rotation ring for the airfoil (wing).

All I can say is WIP. I'm not done yet. Once I get to my powering everything through my base, all will be adjusted.
And they do appear brighter on camera than to the eye. But it'll all be dealt with down the road, once I get to that point.

I want to make a tiny tweak to canon and give B-Wing symmetrical weapons - modify its cannon canon, so to speak.
