I searched around and with your idea I was able to fit most of my wrenches in one drawer. I'm pumped man! I used about 100 nails all total and they go from 32mm down to 6mm and 1 1/2 down to 1/4.
You're reading my mind! I'm doing led lights on my tool boxes and then making my own socket and wrench holders and your videos and suggestions at the end of each video are literally in order of my projects! My 65 Ford Thunderbird must be communicating through telepathy or something spooky! Thanks for all the great tips!
What a great idea. I planned on buying some racks at the store for my new tool box, but thought I would look and see what others have done? This is just the ticket. Rather than use the nails, I had some 18 gauge angle iron (1 1/4 x 1/4) from another project. I clamped 2 pieces together and took my angle grinder with a 1/4 thick disk (had to grind some of the larger wrench slots a little wider) and cut the needed slots. After cleaning and smoothing them up, I spot welded them to the bottom plate and ended up with a "custom" rack just like yours. I used undercoating I had on hand rather than the plastic spray. Another one of those items you cant buy just what you need, so you make it. THANKS!
Love this! As someone who is constantly fighting the ‘why don’t I have enough room for my tools’ battle, things like this are a god send!! Guess I don’t need another cabinet just yet.
I just wanted to thank you for such a great idea I not only used this method for my wrenches but my sockets as well over 100 sockets. I just used a punch marked it where I wanted them and spot welded it. I also shadowed my box with yoga mats just cut to the size of the box 3/4 so 9/12 mm thick sheets of 3mm sprayed it with contact adhesive traced my tools cut then painted it black. The yoga mats I used were I believe 24*68" and 3mm thick. They are 8.97 at wal mart. I never post any vids but maybe I will on this so you can see what I'm writing about. Wished you lived near me I think we could have a blast. You have a lot of nice videos and ideas keep up the great work.
Okay Im uploading as I type. Again just want to thank you for your videos you do excellent work and have great ideas. I might have thought on my own of doing this before but it was deffinately your video that inspired me and probably tons of others as well. Your a true craftsman.
Looks awesome. I like that you tipped it over and everything is still in place. Flux core is what I use and like. I have everything and am fully set up for true mig but Flux Core works and is my go to.
I was a helicopter mechanic in the Army and we had to 'Shadow" our tools. Your set up is similar but a real clean look. Good idea with the plastic spray.
Great idea with Yankee thriftiness. One other thought on the finish. When you were replacing the oven element you gave me an idea to make my own oven. For powder coating things that are larger than an oven. Also, after watching this. I am makeing a custom rack for pc to go under a desk I made. It is 4x8 with more than 10 coats of stain. Now I can this thing off the top. Thanks for the inspiratoin.
I did this the other day out of wood, its a lot better than before but this seems to take up less space...i may change to this. Thanks, a brilliant idea.
that's a great Idea.. my uncle does auto body. he has a spot welder that welds nail size pins on sheet metal for dent pulling. I am going to do what you did but use his little nail spot welder.. thank you for, yet another super great idea. ya my big tool box is like the first draw you pulled out, wrenches all over the place.. thank you..... THUMBS UP....... EVEN BETTER IDEA WITH THE RUBBER PAINT.. hell you could use that on all the insides of the tool box trays..I use the crappy rubber mesh mats. they always wrinkle up and don't work that well... thank you yet again...
All my rubber/foam mats wrinkle up and work themselves to the back of the drawers. Every couple months I have to empty my entire drawer and reposition the mat. Hopefully no more. I really like the idea of the dent puller studs. I haven't used one of those guns for 15+ years but they should work quick.
Love the looks of the finished project. My only concern is maring the tool while spot welding. Just wanted to confirm from the video, you were using the wrench to gage the spot for the nail and tacked it in place while the wrench was still there, correct? Where those your good wrenches or loaners? Where did you find the plastic spray?
Thanks. These are the actual wrenches. They are working wrenches so I wasn't concerned with getting them dirty or marred. Masking tape could be wrapped on the handles to protect polished wrenches. The Plasti Dip is available from any home improvement or automotive store.
Great idea! To take it to the next level maybe try spacing the nails so that you can put rubber tube on them and spray the base with truck bed liner. The why you did it is good enough, I'm just a little OCD (ok, I'm a lot OCD).
Great! My wrenches are all over the basement floor and work bench and I can never find the one I am looking for. Same with the sockets screw drivers and drill bits.
.That came out really nice, but that is allot of work. I just bought organisers they were cheap. But then again you have some thing special and it is very cool.. your very industrious.
Smashing idea, and it looks really clean :-)) Shame that tooltrays dont come that way. The spray just finished it a treat, who dont love clean organised tools :-))
Good golly! You must dream up this schtuff in your sleep. Nice work. Next you're gonna tell us that we can re-charge our own batteries?!?! Hahaha! You just did! Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration for idle hands.
Have you ever thought of applying for a job at NASA? Yet another fantastic idea! I would love to be your neighbour, I'd be round your house 6 days a week (my wife expects a little attention) Thanks for yet another project. Keep smiling
That's a good idea although I really like what you showed in the video. Have any storage solutions for sockets in a small tool box? That's another problem. lol.
I know this is very old but welding nails with heads down would be a bit easier to weld and possibly stronger (not that that's particularly important).
That is a great idea! Too bad I don't have a welder or know how to weld. I have always wanted to learn how to weld. I was thinking of buying an inexpensive mig welder and maybe watching some youtube videos, maybe I can learn the basics that way, lots of things I would like to weld if I knew how. Thanks.
If you do decide to, just get a basic flux core mig welder and go to town. Welding forums will scare you off and make you think you need to invest big bucks, not true. I self taught myself with a flux cored lincoln I bought in 1998. I still use the exact same one and love it. They really do pay for themselves with all the things they can fix.
I got some woman on Ebay to make me wrench holders out of canvas. Where it rolls up. She made each one custom for me. She also had ones she sold that were already made.
I'm so going to do that for my service cart at work. When I'm done with all the mods to my HF cart I well post it and tag u. Keep up the good work man!!!
i like how you made it easy and simple to do. i just barely ran into this problem on my car, my dipstick tube on my 85 ford 302 snapped at the base of the block where it is inserted. i am going to check on a price for a replacement but it also gave me the idea to get metal tubing with the same inner and out diameter measured an formed to fit might cost less, what are your thoughts
Yeah, if you could find a tube with the same outside diameter. I know they sale universal dipstick kits for the 302 for around $20. It's always fun to run to the wrecking yard and pull one for a couple bucks.
I searched around and with your idea I was able to fit most of my wrenches in one drawer. I'm pumped man! I used about 100 nails all total and they go from 32mm down to 6mm and 1 1/2 down to 1/4.

Awesome. The Fords all talk to each other at night.

Best method I've seen!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Good idea. Especially the rubberized coating. I know it's an old video but it's just as useful today as when you made it.
Thanks for the video.
I still love this organizer. Since this video i got a new tool box and just threw it into the new one.
Good idea and your videos have come a long way
Another great organization project as well as a good chance for the tack weld. I need both!! Thanks so much!
I was hesitant about it until I saw the finished product and I must say I am impressed with it.
Thanks. It has been a great addition to my toolbox.
wow i have got to say this is a fantastic idea thanks for passing it on!!!!
Glad you liked it. -Moe
This allows more tools in the same space as those plastic organizers. Great job!
Thanks...

Holy smokes uploading sucked however I found an app to compress the video which made life easy
Looks awesome. I like that you tipped it over and everything is still in place. Flux core is what I use and like. I have everything and am fully set up for true mig but Flux Core works and is my go to.
Well its the harbor freight 90 amp I can get some good welds out of it in the right conditions.
I was a helicopter mechanic in the Army and we had to 'Shadow" our tools. Your set up is similar but a real clean look. Good idea with the plastic spray.
Howdy from Southern Idaho. I’m just learning to weld, and I definitely want to do this.
You have some great ideas. I've watched a bunch of your videos and subscribed. Got like five things I want to try. Thanks for sharing.
eloctocs13 Awesome. I'm you subscribed and that you found some cool projects. -Moe
Moe, you know I love your ideas and your execution of them. I have one question/concern. Why did you weld the nails point down versus the head down?
Just because I was using the nails multiple times for the length. So they were getting cut anyway m
@@sixtyfiveford Now THAT is Doing It Cheap !!! My hero !!! LOL !
Changed the way I live. this works great!
fuzzy19111 I don't know how I did it before. One of the greatest things I've ever done in my toolbox.
Got 59 wrenches in one drawer!
Great idea with Yankee thriftiness. One other thought on the finish. When you were replacing the oven element you gave me an idea to make my own oven. brilliant design Moe. I hate my own system, which is the "where are my wrenches man? I don't know O_O crap"
I had that system for years.
Mind in gear - hands at work. Thanks for the video bro.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I did this the other day out of wood, its a lot better than before but this seems to take up less space...i may change to this. Thanks, a brilliant idea.

Awesome video. This is very cool. I love how you can more easily see the sizes now. Love it.
Thanks. I need more wrenches now because I have the space.
Again very cool idea!!! I look forward to watching more of your videos!
Thanks..
Very nice little holders. It's nice to be organized, isn't it?
+J DeWitt DIY Yes it is.
Great idea and I really like the use of the plasti dip spray.
It seams very robust and durable. Time will tell how it holds up.
You are great, I love your work. Keep them coming.

Other people's projects are just as fun.. I'll see you tomorrow. Thanks for nice comments... -Moe.
Great job! Have any solutions for storing a set of wrenches in a small portable tool box?
Love2boat92 In a small tool box I used to put a wire through the ends of them in order. This kept them together and easy to find a size.
That's a good idea although I really like what you showed in the video. Have any storage solutions for sockets in a small tool box? That's another problem. lol.
I really like the metal socket rails that clip all your sockets on.
I have those but they're plastic and from harbor freight. Bad choice there. lol. what was I thinking.
I bought my metal ones from Harbor Freight almost 15years ago and they still work great.
Great video. I will be attempting this.
💡👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 brilliant design
Glad you like it!
enjoyed video and Plastidip looks good on it too
Thanks.. The Plasti-Dip seams to be holding up.
F bro that's a damn good idea...I'm gonna try that!
they used to sell nice ones now there way too big, thanks for the vid,
Yeah, they have turned to cheap bulky plastic organizers. Thanks.
Nicely done!
Thanks.
Very nice...I guess I might learn how to weld now😅
Great Idea!

I know this is very old but welding nails with heads down would be a bit easier to weld and possibly stronger (not that that's particularly important).
Sweet idea .. Defiantly using this
Thanks. Been wanting to do this for a while and couldn't find organizers I liked.
great idea!

Would this be a suitable project to learn to weld and paint?
Yes, it would be great practice. It's a lot of spot welding which helps you learn trigger control and aim.
That is a great idea! Too bad I don't have a welder or know how to weld. I have always wanted to learn how to weld. They are fun to play with.

fucking awesome
Breaking good Thanks...
drill holes,,put in rivets instead,,same idea but much quicker,,and no mig welder needed
cool
