I have never listened to this before, but I am now -because I want to understand someone (I respect immensely) who is deeply into it. And It's all starting to make sense...
I could immediately notice that this "Autumn leaves" came from the well known album named "Something else" of Cannonball Adderley. Perhaps, the piano player was Hank Jones and the bassist was his brother. In the trumpet playing of Miles Davis at that time, the people could not hear sufficient improvisations. But he had done an incredibly attractive playing. And, also Cannon ball was showing brilliant alto sax playing. By the way, we Japanese are very sensitive to Autumn leaves. In the "Peace era", Watching that leaves had changed to red or yellow, The old noble people who appeared in "The tale of Genji" that was written by "Shikibu Murasaki", would frequently read short poems called "TANKA". Incidentally, "TANKA" differs from "HAIKU". After all, Miles Davis is always wonderful, wonderful. from Small Edo S prefecture
This was actually Cannonball Adderley's record date. The title of the album is Somethin' Else. This was the last time Miles ever played as a sideman on someone's recording. He did it as a favor for Cannonball who was a member of Miles's band at the time. The whole album is fantastic and features some of Miles's best playing on record.
First time I had heard this- a new Miles favourite for me. Fifty four years old and so cool it should be illegal! Listening to music of this quality makes me despair of today's manufactured so-called 'stars'.
Cannonball, is one of my favorite sax players along with the Prez and Ben Webster. I love This recording, arrangement all of it! The musicians...Aww man, Miles, Art, Hank, Sam... Wow....
Even though I'm only 82, I still enjoy putting on a nice Miles Davis number. Why, I remember when this particular tune would get me all of the bitches on the dance floor!
love the interpretation of this song, mellow and deep feelings are as if bursting out through every note glad I can feel the love though I'm just a teen
I love this beautiful video you created, with this genius music! I watch and listen to it every fall (for the past three years) and look forward to it as a special treat! Thank you so much!
From the *Cannonball Adderley album, "Somethin' Else" (1958)* Players: Cannonball Adderley- Alto Sax Miles Davis- Trumpet Hank Jones- Piano Sam Jones- Bass Art Blakey- Drums
FMMarya Thanks for a well themed video to go with one of Canon ball's and Miles historic performance of Autumn Leaves . I've forgot how beautiful fall is up north as I've been in Florida for 30 yrs.
Only Miles could make Autumn so much nicer!!!!

Cannonball Adderley has also gathered a dream team with Miles Davis, Hank Jones, Sam Jones and Art Blakey. a Blue Note album.

Julian's solo is sweet and masterful. Miles answered it on his second entry with the tone that stood him out from the pack.
there are no words to describe this ... Miles is just Miles ... beyond words
i have heard several versions of this great classic over the many decades ,,wow this is truly stunning ....
Ridiculously good solos. Seriously. The subtle changes are sublime, just like the shades of autumn leaves. Not just music: ART.
It doesn't get better than this. This is the sound of heaven on earth.

There may be hundreds or even thousands of versions of this head-sticking tune - Miles' version is immortal and a jazz standard forever.
