- www.democracynow.org - Fifty years ago this week, four young girls - Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, Cynthia Wesley and Addie Mae Collins - were killed when the Ku Klux Klan bombed the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. The bombing came less than a month after the landmark March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Hundreds gathered in the nation's capital last week to honor their memory when lawmakers posthumously awarded the girls the Congressional Gold Medal. We're joined by Addie Mae's sister, Sarah Collins Rudolph, who is often referred to as the bombing's "fifth victim." Just 12 years old when the church was attacked, Collins Rudolph was hit with shards of glass, lost an eye and was hospitalized for months. Today, she continues to live in Birmingham, suffering from the physical, mental and emotional effects of the bombing. She says she has yet to receive any compensation.

she shouldnt have to explain herself. it is common sense to compensate her. They expect blacks endure whatever and accept an apology like we give a care about that
no money can compensate for what has been done
@@Superlongevityinstitute it helps
She should not have been neglected financially. She is so humble, so forgivening; it's disgraceful that she is left to linger.
god bless this women's soul😿😿🙏 this women had to be mentality scared from all the trauma that happened to her ,I want to cry so bad its such a shame what these sick people did to my people I hope those sick bastered rot in hell !
This woman did not just suffer from partial blindness, shrapnel, and post traumatic stress. She had brain injuries from the shock wave, just like soldiers get from IED attacks; because she describes having uncharacteristic difficulty in her studies following the bombing. I think she also suffers still from chronic dryness and irritation in her left eye because she is constantly blinking her left eye.
Exactly what I was thinking in terms of the TBI.
I didn’t know she received brain injuries. For so many years I was mad at her for not coming out and telling about what happened. Now I see why
@@greenhornet8262 mad for what? You still know the story..now what!?
j readdy yea but she could have provided so many more details that could clear up what really happened
@@greenhornet8262 yeah I doubt that. Like what? She didn't see anyone put it there or detonate it. She just heard a bomb go off and everything and everyone went flying. Nothing more to really explain. You also have to think about her safety in those days. There was no real protection for black people speaking out. You can tell the way she talks that she has brain issues
God bless you, Sarah.🙏🏻🙏🏿
May she be blessed ❤️
Omg that is really sad :(
The families of these precious little girls should've been compensated years ago! It's still a burning image in most people's minds, especially their families!
Wtf They were young girls not little girls.
It’s crazy how ppl have so much hate over a skin color that us black ppl can’t control we didn’t ask to be black but we embrace it we were born this way
Why didnt this country take care if her and still not?
IKR I feel like America has forgotten about her and the sister, it's horrible and disgusting.
go fund me.
Just saddddd😢
"We should all just love each other."
They should’ve took care of this lady
Who should have?.............. the white America that hated her? Please. They hate her even today but the feedback would be too great if they were to admit it .
God bless her
Wow , not to say this is from her PTSD but it may be. When she said “I thought the other girl was going to get the bomb, I mean metal” it’s like is she thinking about the bomb a lot ? Or could it just be from the conversation? How can we help this woman get respirations?
Who could employ her as a maid? I would feel like garbage paying this poor woman to clean for me. She should be taken care of the rest of her life. How heartbreaking.
If I had the money I would give her something for the pain she went through if she was dead she would be a statue but she's alive and you see what happened to her
And the cops came and murdered another kid and he would not arrest it like anyone would think he would have been
This is sad! I commend her for her life and love her for her strength. It’s really disrespectful that she hasn’t gotten compensated for the rest of her life. That was very traumatizing and the government owes it to her but this last part “I didn’t know they were going to present me with a bomb” 💣 is hilarious 🤣
I don't like how they cut her off at the end.
that was so fuck about remember that day still house about go church some place Sunday school my mother say still house listing music Jackie Wilson James Brown etta James Chuck berry ms Brown rest in peace Martin Luther King Jr talk about day my father or move to Indianapolis next day uncle Kevin uncle Aaron uncle lebron aunt Ariana aunt Mary Kay aunt georgia aunt Ashley and grandparents Trayvon and ebony

no contiuous nothing kids no right for that racism is a crime.
Bless her soul🙏
Ok look iam not color but all white is not the same some are different and some are mean so u can tell your kids what white people did but u have to tell them not all white are the same some are nice and i hate what white people did and iam white and we are the same .are skin does not matter we should all have freedom and everyone should not be a slave and we should not figth but we can use words to solve are Problems
And this is coming from a 10 year old and if u read this and hate color people then maybe think about how life would be if white people were the slave and maybe that can change your mind and dont hurt but u have to use words
i posted this 2 years ago wow im 13 now...but my grammer was horrible still is but worst then now.By the way i dont know why my 10 year old self wrote iam white probs a mistake or soemthing. I still believe everything else i wrote though
+Camila Hernandez good post youngsta....
So sad it made meh cry
Wow
This is such a terrible story. How is that a human being would go out of his way to hurt another human being for no reason... No reason at all. Racism shouldn't be a reason.

I had a test about this but the story
Omg
The one in jail denies any wrong doing because the govt/CIA did it.
Did my sister in law start some if this Denise.
Is this also not in the History 📚 School Books? The Fifth Witness is right here. She called Jesus. She lived to tell the story, the others died so we know there is a story behind all this constant tribal unrest. Simply put, Only Divinr Interventions will fix this and He is going to.❤
😪
history isnt hate.
but thanks for telling me whats best for my people white man. im sure you know whats best.
