I consider Jonty one of the greatest cricketers ever! Because he single-handedly changed two very important aspects of cricket: fielding and running between the wickets. And he did it very quietly! ❤ Jonty!
Jonty is such an underrated batsman, he was good at facing genuine quicks and among the elite of the 90s who could negate Asian spin with use of feet n sweeps/reverse sweeps, he scored quickly too, outright entertainer.
@ryan churchill Warne was "The Greatest Leg Spinner" this game has ever witness so being a bunny of someone like him is not a thing of shame. Also, every batsman has some weakness
I personally think he could have been a great batsman. He had a very wide array of shots at his disposal. If only he had a great batting coach/mentor who could tweak his approach and technique slightly. He had a great eye and raw talent.
Because jonty had very quick talent to track ball's movemoent,he was xcellant at making run-outs,he would guess accurately track of the ball the moment hit by batsman,& grab it & throw precisely at the wickets..the same eye sight brilliance made him pick bowler's ball also & scoring boundries at will, that made him a handsome batsman.
Well he did have it. Playing in the national team and not having a personal coach. What a joke. Dont just write things for the sake of your predictions.
I remember watching this game.. back in my school days a die-hard South African fan then, I remember Shaun Pollock blasted 27 of Franklin's over and scored 69*, last ball of first innings was a mis-field for boundary. The only team against whom Shane Bond has a bad individual record as compared to the other teams Time flies man good old days
Remember when these VB tri series were a thing... and when it was Australia v New Zealand v one other team every other year... great time to watch ODI cricket... now all us Kiwis get is just T20 and maybe a 2 test series.
That on-drive was delightful. Often his fielding overshadows his batting. One of the best horizontal bat players. His fieldkng and catching balls horizontally makes that possible
23 for 3 and they managed to win the match. This is why South Africa were a magical team between 1999 and around 2011. They were unpredictable and could pull off just about anything.
South Africans were struggling with 4 wickets down & this guy repaired the innings. He was a natural talent.... A pure sportsman. He was also selected for the South African National Hockey team, but he chose Cricket....!!!!! How many of them would create these opportunities..!?
46.3 overs the score was 213. 50 overs- its 270. 21 deliveries 57 runs. Thats a big hitting even by todays standards. 3.3 overs-57 runs. and in those 57 runs Johnty scored only 7. Pollock is such a clean hitter!
This might be Ist or 2nd Final in the 2002 VB series tournament...Its rare to see Australia not in finals in there home series... It's Shane Bond who closed the ODI chapter of Waugh brothers.
I remember this series… Shane bond troubled Aussies a lot. nz defeated Australia in a couple of matches, Bevan played one innings that seemed unbelievable. Overall great memories.

Its his fault that his fielding eclipsed his batting 😂

The legend of Jonty Rhodes, the fielder is so big that you often forget that his role primarily in the team was as a batsman
Love you jonty Rhodes from Pakistan ! Brilliant knock
World best fielder !
I'd love to see Polly's innings here. 69* off 34 with 6 sixes!
The man who united the team through all those years of difficulty. I have a deep respect for him ♥️
It's a jonty rhodes not a shaun pollock
ruclips.net/video/tQ1N2OnaQG0/видео.html there you go :D Rob's got everything. Absolute death over bashing
He was playing those unorthodox shots in late 90s😱
where do you think AB first saw it?
He and Andy Flower I remember were the only batter during that time who used to play reserve sweep shot to spinners.

Absolutely right my brother
Rhodes insane fielding skills take away from the fact that he was a gutsy and effective batsman
With some help by Shaun Pollock in the end of the innings. Incredible player Jonty was! One of the best fielders I've ever seen.
Actually he is the best fielder the world has ever seen and most probably will ever see. Gibbs, Ponting, Kaif comes close but still.

Tony Greg... What a voice!!!!
He had incredible batting technique. The basics of batting simple and pure.
His name itself makes difference in oppositions.
After hitting ball in the point...he is even capable of saving his own shot from going to boundry.
Not only great feilder but also great middle order batsman

Excellent Hundred Jonty. Great middle order batsman but his fielding was important to SA team. But his batting skills were amazing.
Watching Jonty bat, I almost see shades of the way ABD bats. Like quicksilver around the crease. ABD is really Jonty 2.0.
He was one of the great players against short balls and spin bowling ...sweeps and reverse sweeps , hooks , pulls were his strength.
Tony Greg the voice of 🏏 cricket.
An Excellent Innings From The Spider-Man
Jonty also represented South Africa in field hockey. What a sportsman!

good off side cut/square drive reflexes right there old Jodies Thrown eh!
Totally unorthodox, but very effective, and could hit big when he had to. Good puller and sweeper of the ball as well as down the ground.
