    Interesting list but, I'd have included Tom Hanks (Bosom Buddies), Denzel Washington (St. Elsewhere), Mila Kunis (That 70s Show/Family Guy), Pierce Brosnan (Remington Steele) and Zendaya (Disney Shows).

      Yes, I really expected Denzel Washington to be mentioned. Watched him in St Elsewhere when it was on TV. Tom Hanks also starred in Family Ties as Elyse’s brother. Not a major role, but in the end he became a bigger star than Michael J. Fox.

      Jim Carrey was in a number of movies in the 80's before joining In Living Color. He definitely needed to go to TV to get more recognition. Once Bitten and Earth Girls Are Easy didn't necessarily show off his talents. Plus there's the irony of him NOT getting a spot on SNL.

    John Lithgow definitely deserved a spot on this list. Though he didn't play the main character in any Hollywood movie, he played a lot of memorable villains and supporting characters.

      Lithgow is so dope. Very underrated. He could have been Joker in the Burton film, he thought it was to dark so he turned it down.

    Christopher Lloyd might also be included here. From Taxi, to Star Trek 3, Clue, Back to the Future...... Also, "The World According to Garp" is one of the best and most underrated movies I have EVER seen.

    Robin got his start on Happy Days, as Mork, from that performance on Happy Days they created a show for him. Can't really call Mork and Mindy as his start. Mork and Mindy was created because of him...he was already a star at that point. He just got bigger when M&M hit the air.

    Jason Segal was in "Freaks and Geeks" before "How I Met Your Mother". That show also helped jump start the careers of Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Linda Cardellini

      1982-1984: Single eps of a few random shows (Family Ties, Taxi)
      1984: Splash, Bachelor Party
      Now it’s surely true the first few movies he did were seen bc of fans of BB, but he didn’t get huge from or during the show.

      He also was on Sisters. He played a cop called Falconer. He was the love interest of Teddy, one of the sisters. I believe they got married, but then he was killed by a carbomb.

      Not really true. He nearly couldn't do back to the future, because of family ties. He got special permission for the movie, did family ties during the day and the movie after that.

      @@Lou.Cypher yea, but the truth was that MJF could've quit Family Ties in 1986 and nobody would've faulted him. After BTTF, he was a superstar and he easily could've walked away from the show, but he stayed with it for the entire run when he could've easily left a few seasons earlier (see Travolta exiting Kotter once he had Fever and Grease)

    More for the next version of this list would be Morgan freeman who had his first big break in The electric company, the Wayans, Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carey, Jamie Foxx, and more from In Living Color. Most of that cast were launching their careers while still being on that show. Although, to think of it, may just be a good list for all the people who broke out from variety/ sketch shows

    actually Johnny Depp started out doing a feature film on the big screen "Nightmare on Elm Street" and THEN he did a sitcom later on. He was already big

    Let me get this straight...a guy who goes from playing alongside Peter Scolari (R.I.P.) acting in a sit-com about two men disguised as women; to playing Forest Gump, Fred Rogers, an adult child in "Big", a man with AIDS in "Philadelphia", a romantic interest in "When Harry Met Sally" and a soldier in "Saving Private Ryan" not-to-mention the number of Oscar's that they have won, yet they were not on the list?
    As a side issue: are we completely excluding the 50s and 60s?
    Last time I remember, some guy went from "Rawhide" to Everything!

    I don't think Jennifer Aniston outshine the cast of Friends or the show itself, though sure she has been actively working in the industry since the show ended 20 years ago -- if anyone were to remember Aniston and her most meaningful role it is Rachel Green.
    She might've made alot of movies after the show ended but she is still most remembered for the show. I think another actor from the same cast who made a niche for herself outside the show was actually Courteney Cox with her role in the Scream franchise.

    WTF list... Bruce Willis deserved a *much higher* spot, during Moonlighting's run he won Golden Globe, Emmy and People's Choice awards. Also during the run of his show he was paid a then unheard of 5 million dollars to star in Die Hard (and stayed on the show for an additional season). He eventually became the highest paid actor in the world and was the *lead* in several movies which were the highest grossing movies released that year in the entire planet: Die Hard With a Vengeance highest grossing movie of 1995, Armageddon highest grossing movie of 1998 and would have also taken 1999 with The Sixth Sense if it hadn't been for Star Wars The Phantom Menace. It is ridiculous to place many of the other actors you did in front of him... Melissa McCarthy? Donald Glover? lol

    You forgot Clint Eastwood. A star in Rawhide, then a spaghetti western icon, then the ultimate tough cop, then an accomplished director (Flags of our Fathers? Million Dollar Baby?), and now a true american icon (e.g. The Mule).

    George Clooney was on tv for years. I first saw him on the show “The Facts of Life” when I was a child. Then he was on “Rosanne.”

    Since you included ariana grande, you should've included Drake, who was on a TV series [Degrassi: The Next Generation] in Canada before he made it big as a rapper. BTW Nina Dobrev [The Vampire Diaries] and Shenae Grimes [90210] also appeared on the same TV series

      @@bellydancer3146 I think you got things a little confused. Degrassi is a popular show that has reboots/spinoffs a few times [like Saved by the Bell] with different casts. Drake was on the fourth reboot, Degrassi: The Next Generation, and was on the show from the beginning [2001] until 2009 when he got his record deal...

      I think in the beginning they expected Michelle Williams to become the female lead, but Katie Holmes took the lead instead. Katie has had some success after DC [including becoming the 3rd Mrs Tom Cruise] but not the critical success as MW

    I can't believe Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch for Sherlock didn't make this list. Freeman was definitely a bigger deal than Cumberbatch by the time Sherlock started, but they both became huge over the course of the series and we'll never get a proper resolution to the dumpster fire that was series 4 because they've outgrown the show.
