Over the last 18 months I've been decluttering. I've sold stuff, given away stuff and sadly trashed stuff. I'm a lot older than you, divorced, and downsized, but I'm finding simplifying my home has made it easier on my brain to focus and easier on my heart to smile, enjoy the day. I kept my fav collections. I have shelves filled with books in the living rm, Fiestaware in my kitchen, and 3 large clear glass canisters filled with seashells I've collected at every beach I've ever visited. Having 8 plants around the house and a family picture gallery wall in the hallway, (plus my bks, dishes, shells), would probably not seem simple, but organized & limited areas which contain my favorite objects brings me happiness. I don't need to shop for anything. I'm surrounded by pleasant memories of family meals & vacations, and great fiction I read again & again. Plus there's less to clean & more room to entertain or just play with the dog. Simpler doesn't mean removing all the unnecessary objects, I just kept the happiest stuff I truly love.
Having a simpler home helps me get outside hiking or enjoying nature. I feel like if my house is cluttered, I’m overwhelmed and feel like I need to be home cleaning or organizing.
I'm leaning more and more toward a more simpler life, and decluttering almost every day and I'm liking the peace and tranquility that our home and my life is enjoying.
Love this. Simplicity in my life has made life less stressful.. I love getting back to basics . More meaningful. I have decluttering so much stuff and now organizing.
Another great video Aline, I completely agree, simplicity is best and less is more in so many areas of our lives. The peace of mind I've got from decluttering over 80 percent of my belongings over the last 4 years is more valuable than those items ever were or could be.
You make beautiful video. They are my little treat that I get to watch for free. I am in the process if decluttering. I also threw all my old makeup out, and I used your link to order all the Merit products. I am not a a minimalist, but I am trying to adopt some of the ideas behind it.😇
I agree its like when people say 50 things to make your life simple not 5 things, its strange how we have so bought into the idea more is better, when there is too much i feel so overwhelmed and stressed i just cannot do with it any more, thank you xxxxx just 5
I would recognize Crystal Bridges anywhere (one of our best features here in NWA). Also, as a fellow “simpler way” enthusiast, I would rather spend my time and money with my family and experiences than materialistic items. As a previous military family we have moved over 17 times and the amount of times that you stress over personal items (will that ugly clown teapot that my aunt gave me break during the move?) is just a horrible waste of time because in the end you don’t remember the gifts, but the gift of time spent with loved ones. Also, as a professional organizer, a minimalism lifestyle is so much easier for people to deal with. What’s your podcast?
I believe people who uses to get stressed too often should embrace a minimalist style of life st least try and see how s it going... ik it can make wonders to the brain...
Simplicity is great for living life when the risks of sliding into a dimensional downgrade habit are well aware and controlled of, because the nature of things can sometimes be complex, and simple solutions can only lead to unevolved outcomes. I would consider growing the capability to adapt is better, and simplicity is the foundation of getting better. Nothing is absolutely the best, but I can't help liking your videos.
@Slice of Light This was greatly appreciated. I would love to see how you minimize office/desk space. Do you work from an actual desk or kitchen table. I’m minimalist and trying to decide.🙏🏽❣️💪🏾
I have a lot of things. But, I’ll say I have a lot, for the space I’m in. I don’t entirely subscribe to the idea that a person, who may have the same amount, as another, who might have more space, is a hoarder. Still, I’m decluttering and organizing. I’ll never be a minimalist though, unless like some who have become so, have had to do so by force. For me, as bitter as it may sound, I enjoy the decluttering of people. That is where I’m a minimalist. I know I’m an introvert and misanthropist though. The most stress in my life has not come from things. It has come from people. I’m not trying to be trollish about it. It’s just what I’ve experienced. Whether it’s people at work or my narcissistic family, that I went no contact with, “decluttering” them was key. My mother died a week ago. Hopefully, she’s finally at peace. But, I left her and my sister, so I could have peace, instead of the “clutter” of abuse. I’m sure I’m not alone.
Hi Elin! I am from germany and i just found your channel and it is wonderful! I really love the way you live ♥️ I would love to see a roomtour 😉 Can you maybe answering me two questions: where did you geht your lovely lamp at your couch? And what loooovely hot water cettle is this 😱 never saw something like this… I would love to hear from you! Love, Inga
Throughout the video, you stated, "I think" many many times. Because of this, I had a hard time really believing your confidence in the reasons you were giving for living simply. I hope you can take this constructively.

You used a lot of words to promote simplicity ;). Update: Ah, you know it :).
