That's what the owner does and why he wanted a system like this. Of course, you've seen first hand all the live music I feature on the channel .. Even stuff from Alaska cruise ships... And Aria piano bars... On top of the Sphere, Coachella, and other big concerts
I got tired of fighting parking, getting through crowds to get to your seats, and then fighting crowds and traffic to leave. It might have been 8 years since my last live performance, but I don't miss them anymore
Really great video. You made some good points about people's systems and the money they spent on them. At the end of the day, we (Audiophiles) all strive to have the best system producing the best music possible and within our each of own budget. He has a beautiful setup. Like you said, some spend money on watches, houses, cars, motorcyles, etc. Kudos to everyone for having different taste in music and equipment. It is what makes this hobby enjoyable.
To each their own. Just because the majority can’t, doesn’t mean those of means should do without. I won’t see it, but I’m not losing any sleep over it either!
One thing I forgot to mention in this video (mentioned it in the past)... is that the owner sometimes swaps in a relatively inexpensive pair of HSU speakers to show the difference and intentionally showcase that people AREN'T really "doing without" that much. Yes, the Acapellas are better, but he's the first to show people that the delta won't ruin your experience in enjoying music. Thus, he deserves a lot of credit for bringing a reality check to his own system and acknowledging the diminishing returns as well as significant cost associated with those improvements.
The argument that its more about the music than the gear would be more convincing if you didn't refer to his system as "the million dollar Acapella" about 20 times in a row. LOL Not hating, just saying we all do it when we see something at the extreme end of a market we often call out the price. I honestly don't care what any of this stuff costs. But I am do marvel at the craftsmanship that goes into making some very high end gear. All power to Jim, or anyone else who has the passion and the means to create a great home with a great sound system that they enjoy, whether it is for reproducing Beethoven or for just marveling at sound reproduction. BTW, really like Rick and his approach to all of this. I think he has assembled amazing systems here.
Don't do mushrooms 😁 I have captions so go back and count your perceived 20 times saying "the million dollar Acapella". The overall point should be clear though as you gathered. There are big differences in those that spend money in the extremes for this hobby and others.
Does anybody know where I could get just the exponential horn part for those loudspeakers ? I have a DIY idea I'm thinking about. I just need the large ones .
I have no time for people who whine about other people who are more successful than they will ever be and the ways they spend their money. I work for a small but passionate company where we build very high end luxury motor yachts that sell from 1 - 4 Million. Boats I could not afford, but I love my job where I get to enjoy the satisfaction of producing the best craftsmanship I am capable of, every day. Without wealthy, successful people who love what we do, I suppose I would be making plastic canoes.
People criticize those who love audio and not Car And Driver because people become familiar with cars at a young age. Everyone learns to drive, everyone knows what the driving experience is, and everyone learns what the passenger experience is. So everyone learns what a good driving experience is, what is not, and most want the best driving and passenger experience they can get for the money. The overwhelming majority of people never learn how to listen, what to listen for, and what the best listening experience for their money can get you. When you tell people that your system is a transportation system they look puzzled. When you tell people that they're capable of educating their ears most are skeptical. They can't believe that, with training as in driving, you can become a very good listener. Do expert drivers have better driving experiences? Not necessarily. But they, as we audiophiles, can often tell you a good one from a bad one and why. We often speak in term that non aficionados don't understand. We can go into the details and pick out its gains and faults. Finally like cars, we audiophiles, if we have the money, will spend it on a vehicle that is expensive, well crafted, and as good as it gets.
to my eyes, at least online, the fit and finish of the woofer cabinets do not suggest a seven figure price tag. Visible screws, pins for grills, the rear near the terminals. I recently got the chance to listen to a plasma tweeter, but on the Lanche. Fantastic treble. The rest of the Lance couldn't keep up, so I imagine the Spaerons are something special. Look at the fit and finish on my TAD Reference series in comparison, or Wilson or Magico. I've never heard the Bernings, but own Atmasphere Output transformerless triodes that make over 100 watts. I'd love to hear these speakers! Rick, how do I get an invite?
Absolutely no problem when people buy toys they can afford and will enjoy. A big problem when people try to argue that a $100,000 Patek is more precise or reliable than a $100 Casio. Don't confuse your subjective enjoyment - which in many cases is price and looks driven - with objective facts. And the fact is that you can get pretty seriously enjoyable sound for between $3 and $5k in the rooms most of us have.
He has developed the same technology used in The Sphere. It's not really surround sound though. It's much more complex matrix arrays where individual speakers aren't given just exclusive channels of information.
THANK-YOU MR. RICK , FOR LETTING US INTO YOUR HOME AND GIVING US ALL A GREAT TOUR . SPOILER ALERT...MY SYSTEM COST ONE US DOLLAR ( 1 $ ) MORE THEN YOURS....HA HA HA JUST KIDDING GENTS !!
Just a little perplex as to why have two very similar equipment and sounding system? I definitely would gone with one set of tube/horn and another completely solid state. Never the less I am happy he is enjoying his life filled with amazing toys.
It's a fair question, but once you find a combination that's perfect for your tastes... You don't want to mess with it. He used to have multiple different systems of various varieties, but has now pivoted to just these 2.
@@RAREFORMDESIGNS No, it's an obsession. Most of us have or had at least one obsession in our relatively short life. Clothes, cars, bikes, guns, audio, dolls, model trains, toy soldiers - the list goes on and on. Obsession is the stepchild to passion, and passion fuels our zest for life. Sickness blunts it.
Thanks for interesting content. And or but, I am not really "digging" your subtitles as it is way too intrusive, especially on a big screen tv... Should be an option to turn off.
They have downsides, but they are especially helpful in videos like this.. where someone else is talking without a dedicated mic. The main reason is that 80% of people listen with the sound off and the captions significantly increase watch stats. These captions are much better than RUclipss that you can turn off, but there is a downside for some people I realize.

I still need to make a video to let you hear what I hear, sorry for that, busy. But I can't be the only person who listens/watches your channel on a pair of nice speakers instead of a phone? Maybe it's compression artifacts, maybe you talk 'to loud' in the mic, I have no idea. When interviewing Rick, there are no artifacts when he is talking, but there are when you are. Maybe it's distance to the mic? Sorry man, don't want to be a debby downer of negative nancy. Love your video's and I think resolving this sound issue just would make it all that bit better. Like you new intro btw, love the bass 😎 Hate the ceiling bird in this video. Million dollar hifi, but no idea how to change a 9V battery.
I hear the artifacts when in my room... It's the chair squeaking mostly, but occasionally if I'm zoomed in while in the field, you may get artifacts. Did you hear any for the concert videos?
@@AudiophileJunkie I don't hear it in the concert videos. But in this video, I can hear these artifacts from 8.40 to 8.54, not till 9.27, there is a second you can hear it and around 10.21 again. Don't believe you're in a chair in that clip. Think it's a volume or mic sensitivity (distance + volume to mic) issue.
What i don't see is the music collection...for that money one must assume he has a 10,000 records and a similar number of cds? So where are they? As an asside, ignoring the cost they are some seriously fugly looking speakers.
